Taj Burrow

Finals

This is the last update from the Quiksilver Pro presented by Land Rover at Snapper Rocks, Queensland. It’s a massive day up here…an early 7:30am start to catch the low tide tubes and glassy conditions. Biggest waves of the comp so far with 3-4 footers reeling down the point. I’ve said it before, Snapper is a hot wave…if it didn’t always have 200 people out (mainly CT surfers) you’d camp out here for weeks. There’s just so much sand on this point.

We hung around to watch the Quarters…Jordy, again showing true form and won his heat over Alejo Muniz right on the buzzer. I know it’s not patriotic of me, but I still reckon Jordy Smith will win this event. He just looks so relaxed out there…Taj, Slater, Tiago all go through to the Semi’s…unfortunately I’ll be on the plane as the finals run – as they have delayed the event for 3 hours (1pm) until low tide comes and throws more barrels. It will be spectacular. Forget work today – watch it live online or on ONE HD TV.

Jordy Smith, thriving on his forehand

Alejo, surfing hot, but not enough to beat Jordy

Tiago edging off Matty Wilko

Alejo, banging the pocket

Brett Simpson, nice arc

Matty Wilko, hot backhand stabs

  1. Not at all Euge, your comment is more realistic than unpatriotic. I think Tajs heat against Da Souza was very bias. There is no way Taj deserved a 9.43 for his second highest wave score. Both Da Souzas wave had pretty good tube rides in them and I feel that if Taj got 9’s he should have been given 10’s. I therefore belive that the Brazilian was marked down because he was surfing against an Australian in Austarlia and there was a lot of patriotism on the scorecards!
