ANZAC 25th April 2012
New Zealand is a small place but has plenty of surfing options. Been here for 4 days now and we’ve found waves every day. Have to admit, we’ve got a good surf guide, Maz Quinn (Jay’s brother), who is the only surfer in NZ to make it on the world championship tour a while back. Last night we crossed the country (only takes 2 hours) and rolled in Tairua, which in stark contrast to the west coast has white sandy beaches and plenty of pumping little beach breaks. You’d get lonely being a surfer here. So many beaches don’t get surfed or even have names. A lot of breaks have no road access, and boat, ski or heli the only option!
Heading back West now, chasing a swell.
Lest We Forget.

Thanks for all those wonderful pics from NZ. Although I am not a surfer, (just a swimmer and faithful follower of your postings.)
How warm is the water there at the moment?
I must encourage my husband to spent a holiday in this beautiful part of the world.
Enjoy your time.
Cheers.

water temp dropping in NZ – expect 18 around North east coasts, maybe 17 on the west coast.

I’ve always thought New Zealand was beautiful – but these photo’s over the past few days give beautiful a whole new meaning. Love the cross section of land and sea, fence posts and shacks and what a perfect ride to see NZ.

did you go to hot water beach?

Great to see the waves and sunshine turned on while you’re over here. You’ve had a blinder. Actually its always this good, honest.

Thanks a bunch for sharing the love Uge, was great seeing you in ‘The Coromandel’
Hopefully we’ll see a few more of your countrymen follow suit in the near future. Just over an hour from the Intnl Airport is the region that is ‘good for your soul’ http://www.thecoromandel.com

I took a drive down the Surf Highway in December…totally flat but hear the waves are empty and perfect usually.

too much love! where are all the “piss off back to bondi” comments and “locals only”, kiwi boys are getting soft, too much metro influence from the eastern suburbs crew
Uge said |
Na Billy, the crew here are very welcoming actually (extremely in fact). I haven’t seen another camera on any of the 5 beaches I’ve been and the surfers all come up saying G’day…very laid back people (and clever obviously).
So I guess no knuckle-draggers over here…

Relax Billy, you know Tangaroa keeps on giving and there will always be another swell…
billy said |
yeh but next swell might have heaps of sydney clowns riding stubby quad fins and talking about the latest Kai Neville flick all over it

Great to have you guys visit one of the best regions in New Zealand. Don’t forget to take time to have a good look too. Life is not only about the surf. Thames is a fascinating town with plenty of history. New Zealand basicly started in Thames. Weather is always great here. Happy holidaying. http://www.chartremanor.co.nz
