The swell is dissipating – and so is the rain – alleluia. Bondi had a weak, floppy 1-2 foot wave this morning – with a large number of people out. It’s not going to get any better for a while so best utilize what’s on offer with a large chunk of fibreglass e.g. Mal, Fish.

Half asleep, in the dark I rolled down the hill around 6am, it was raining and cloudy – didn’t think the sunrise was going to pull through when boom, shards of colour erupted on the horizon. Good lens fodder, hope you saw the sunrise this morning.

Winds are NE at the moment and the sunshine is out – great beach day down at Bondi with a top of 27 degrees.

Sydney needed a good hosing down…and 4 days straight of pouring rain should do it… enough already! Trying to shoot out of the ‘abduction van’ side door ain’t easy in the rain. Only got a couple of shots of a decent left at Bondi that seems to be a rideable 2 ft with 3 ft infrequent sets. We still have east swell hittin’, so Maroubra should be bigger – but still junkie. It’s dropping off further tomorrow and there won’t be much to surf all week. It’s going to continue to rain though.

Yesterday I was in Adelaide, where it’s clear skies and 35 bakin’ degrees. No surf though. Nice to get out the rain!

Aquabumps Survey

Decent sized swell is wasted in the Eastern Suburbs. We just don’t have the infrastructure to hold it. A.k.a reefs, a river mouth, or a decent chunk of sand or artificial reef.

Bondi was a wobbly, wonky, manky 4-5 foot. I sat there for 1.5 hrs looking for a single decent one – and na, nuttin’. Most of the other beaches just looked big (6 ft), fat and random…so be prepared to paddle around in circles. I’d drive far away, in search of a protected reef.

Wind is going more north as you read this. That’s a good thing, let’s hope it lines up a little better. High tide 2pm, low tide 8am.

Fortunately there is a dead east swell all weekend with favourable winds. Get out there, with the Inter Club challenge on this weekend up at Gold Coast, all good surfers will be leaving their local post clearing the peak.

Aquabumps is open all weekend 10am to 6pm and you’ll find our long gallery at 151 Curlewis Street Bondi beach – still lost?
