The 2-3 footers are junkie as hell. And then some.

1 guy out at south Bondi. He wasn’t doing much. If you wanna surf, the beach is all yours.

The weather will come good tomorrow, hopefully the surf will join the party.

These pictures were shot mostly yesterday, and 1 from today.

Going back to basics today…like the old film/broke days…just to keep me amused on an insignificant surf day…1 camera, 1 lens, 1 hour, only 10 captures (just like a roll of film – I could only afford 12 exposures when I was a kid)…and with these restrictions, this is what I saw this morning. Sensational warm morning, partly cloudy. Pretty stunned that I couldn’t get a car park (Tama or Bondi) at 6am. A tonne of new faces down there at a whiff of summer…all kick starting training to lose the winter excess baggage.

There’s been a lot happening in the surfing world lately. The tragic sudden death of ex-world champion Andy Irons – which gutted so many people, Kelly Slater makes history (again) winning 10 world titles and the Mentawais is hit by a Tsunami. What next? 50 foot faces in Ireland at the base of the cliffs of Moher and perhaps Bondi breaks a 400 metre right off the boot?

Christmas is nearing and we’re taking orders in the Aquabumps Gallery to put under the tree. Custom framing orders will need to be placed and paid by 5pm on Sunday 12th December to get them in time for xmas. There’s still plenty of stock (like 1,000 pieces to choose from), but if you want something special, something not common from our 11 year archive, then you best get into the gallery and start ordering to avoid disappointment. We’re open every day (except Mondays) from 10am to 6pm. If you need help, may we suggest :

1)	looking at our online catalogue
2)	use our fancy price/size selector to get idea of what you want and framing options
3)	click on “Preview in your home” to suss what it looks like on the wall
4)	order online, yep, don’t even have to leave your chair
5)	we call you to confirm your order and have a chat about the surf
6)	wait 2-3 weeks and you can pick it up from the Bondi gallery or we’ll courier to you

Hope you can make it to the opening night of Art Sydney…buy tickets here now.

Ok, back to work, uge

I’m a little confused at the moment (easily done, don’t worry). The weather is so volatile. It’s sunny one moment and time to hit the beach, oh, no sorry southerly change rips thru, hang on, then sunny again followed by an erupting lighting storm…looky there, NE/NW offshores early then a strong SE change then back to SW winds before a threat of yet another thunderstorm. Just confused myself writing that down and that’s just the past 24hrs.

The surf is quite simple though. Small 1-2 foot. Bondi struggle to ripple whilst around the corner had flimsy 2 footers. Nothing great.

Just looked out the window and it’s sunny again – enjoy it whilst it’s here.

This week is a good one to show your lady friend you’re not just a 1 dimensional grom. Maybe start off by walking the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition which is currently on between Tamarama and Bondi (and heavily featured in today’s images). Then really shine on with tickets to the opening night of Art Sydney – the big fair where 100 galleries huddle under 1 roof for the weekend. Aquabumps readers get 2 tickets for 70 bones ($30 off) to the Opening night this Thursday (11th Nov) 5pm – 9pm at Royal Hall of Industries Moore Park. Buy here

Sure. It’s onshore, grey and Monday…all contributing factors that make it hard to get out of the car and go for a wave. But, should you venture out and like surfing on your own, there is a few peaks around. Some onshore mush mixed in with the odd decent 3ft wave. Just look at that left I shot at Bondi – looks orkay right? Bronte had something wobbling out the back with no one around…the only problem is that the wind is going to blow 30 knots from the south later today…I’m sure that’ll impact things (and hopefully bring more swell)

Help out the Mentawais

If you’ve been to the Mentawais, or dreamed of going – or just like photos from there – I think it’s time to help them out after their lethal earthquake/tsunami. The situation in the surf rich islands is so tragic as reports roll in. It’s worse than originally reported. The Greenbush-Maccas areas are devastated – Thunders Islands barely has a tree on it. There is a ton of email going around, people asking to put money directly into bank accounts (very suss – wouldn’t do that)…my suggestion is to donate to the official lead agency in Tsunami Response – S U R F A I D (as appointed by the Indonesian government last Friday). I just donated to SurfAid this morning, and urge you too right now. It’s just not right that we all go over there and surf and enjoy the fruits of the surf-mecca whilst thousands of the locals are now homeless, hundreds dead, loads missing…these people have nothing and live in the middle of nowhere – with very little access to help. So come on fellow surfers – donate. I see 2,000 of you clicked on a surf movie link I put up last week, and only 300 clicked on Surfaid link to donate (big brother’s always watching).

If you want some firsthand reports from the skippers who have been in the islands for years, like Chris scuzz Scurrah or John Mcgroder. Read this…

::uge

Sorry about the late update…few technical issues on level 5…

Seeing the waves were fairly small today and a mix of NE and SE swells, a trip over to the Northern Beaches to stand up paddle with 2 x world champion Tom Carroll was the best option. Paddling around his home break, Newport, in 1-2 foot, Tom made SUP look like child’s play.

Looks like there is more swell headed for Sydney this weekend – all NE. You should be able to find a 3 footer at exposed beaches. woohoo.

Sculpture by the Sea begins its first day along the walk from Bronte to Bondi. It’s gonna be a busy weekend in our area…come drop by the Aquabumps Gallery after doing the coastal walk 151 Curlewis Street, Bondi Beach, we’re open all weekend 10am to 6pm fo course…got some new ipads portfolios to play with!

Have a great weekeend, uge

Tomorrow – same same but cleaner. Saturday – bigger 3 feet…and some east swell action approaching. Better still, 27 and mostly sunny on Saturday – HIT THE BEACH. Might even dust off the bird for some aerial shooting…

Everyone is fitness mad in this town. At sunrise I am perched up on a grassy hill with my camera watchin’ thousands go exercise mad. Bootie camps, boxing, sand soft’n, cycling, thai chi’n, and even a lady waving around a Chinese sword – I get tired just watching. Well this Sunday (31st Oct) between 9-10 there is the biggest training group ever on Bondi Beach…why? To support Breast Cancer Awareness. Price is $20 and all donations go to the McGrath Foundation. EVERYONE IS WELCOME - Register at 8:30am…and wear pink (Pagey, just pick out one of your key pieces). More

The Now

This has gotta be one of the most exciting surf film launches in a while. ‘The Now’ by Riley Blakeway. Well made, well shot and ‘surfing’ like you’ve not seen before. Chippa Wilson gettin’ all rad. Watch trailer and pics

Bondi cracks me up. There is ALWAYS something going on down there in the morning. Well today started like most others of this week – 2-3 foot onshore slop, overcast skies, Jono + Wal + Kirby + Andrej were out ripping (the usuals)…vmmmmpt…hang on, a giant transformer figure (25 foot high) is plonked on the beach (no idea why)…then…eh?…was that a couple going for gold in the car park – yep….confirmed…wow…they’ve probably just rolled out of the Bondi hotel. Summer silly season is here in Bondi. No helicopters trying to fix sculptures though – morning off.

Don’t get too excited about surfing today. The onshores are making a real mess. Sunday looks to be clean. Saturday the Bondi Single Fin classic is on and I strongly recommend you coming down to watch it – it really is hilarious and one of the best days in Bondi. 70’s outfits, 70’s dancing, 70’s boards…

The Aquabumps gallery is open all weekend as usual 10am to 6pm. Come see Sculptures by the Sea and finish in the gallery. 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach Telephone 9130 7788.

Using a new lens today – Canon F1.4 24mm – hot!

There was a tiny wave in the southern corner of Bondi this morning. It was breaking close to the beach and the rides were very weak and short. If you were patient enough you might have one break near your chest, but I wouldn’t think that was too often.

A blanket of thick clouds cover Sydney and drizzly rain continues. A nice 25 degrees is forecasted today, and these clouds should clear. Tomorrow is an amazing 36 degrees. Yes you read that right. 3-6. Just freaky how Sydney switches from cold to hot cold to hot.

The winds are from the north, NW early, NE 18-23 knots later today. The water remains a constant 19 degrees (if the North east winds blow it may drop)

Next decent wave will be Sunday afternoon or Monday. Not much until them folks. Later:uge

Yesterday was a much better day than today.
At least there were a few waves, the sun was shining and the perfect offshores created the ultimate beach weather.

A south change rocked in last night bringing clouds, onshore winds and turning the waves into mush. 1ft dribbly mush.

Yesterday was a big day down at Bondi for two reasons, the inaugural Sculpture by the Sea has begun and the Annual Chloe Byron Memorial surfing comp. Chloe was a victim of the Bali bombings. She was the daughter of well known Bondi local Dave Byron (The guy in the red speedos and red mal who is always getting the set waves). Hundreds paddled out making a ring of remembrance for Chloe whose been sadly missed and features on the graffiti wall along the broadwalk.

Yesterday Bondi was packed. One of the biggest days of this year so far…cars with big mufflers everyone, barely a scrap of sand spare.

Forecast: Wind waves coming up tomorrow afternoon. Expect 4-5 foot but not so sure about quality. ::Uge
