laze
…and so there’s obviously no surf to be had today. Well not that I could find (its coming from the NE). The weather is supremo at thirty-degrees, perfectly sunny and worthy of an early evacuation from work. Enjoy now as a south change will hit later dropping the temperature maximum by 10 degrees to 21 tomorrow. Surf for this long weekend looks dire – nothing but wind chop on Sunday – stock the esky as the weather will remain fine over the break.
The Aquabumps Galley is open Saturday and Sunday, Not Monday…so come down between 10am and 4pm and see the goods. You can have a preview by clicking here.

Have a great long-weekend, ::Uge

nope nothing here …
The surfs gone pretty much flat today, so most of Sydney would barely have a wave over knee height. After a brief interlude of showers overnight the sunshine backed out producing favorable swimming conditions at 23 fat ones. Inspecting the buoy charts this morning brings bad news – we pretty much have NO swell on the horizon. That involves our blessed little long weekend coming up – boards away – go shopping with the girlie (you’ve changed).  Plenty of sunshine though.
busted server
Yes its official, the world’s largest swimsuit shoot took out Aquabumps yesterday (you creepy little office jockeys). So if you received a blank Aquabumps email, or haven’t seen yesterday’s report because of a server OUTAGE – we’re back in action after our server collapsed, blowing smoke all over the place. (Propeller heads running circles around it, waving chickens in an attempt to revive the box) Ok bit dramatic. Click here to see what all the fuss is about. (over 20,000 have already done so)

find and keep me!
If you need something to fill that blank wall at home, and haven’t made it to the Aquabumps Gallery yet – then this will be for you. MAMBO are holding a Finders Keepers Art Hunt on the Saturday 13th October. Basically 15 artworks by the following artists are stashed around the eastern suburbs and you just need to be the 1st to find em after following certain clues – easy! Check em  (Andrew Pommier (Canada), Reg Mombassa, Deanne Cheuk (NY), Beci Orpin (Melb), Paul McNeil (Byron), Eric Elms (NY) Artemio Rodriguez (Mexico), Robert Moore (Grafton) Harold David, Ainslie Fletcher, Tristan Ceddia (Melb), Numskull, Cupco, David McKay and Ben Frost

COSMO/VENUS swimsuit shoot world record
Bondi is pretty well known for its girls. Lots of them. Peak summer, you’ll find a few dozen parading around in the north end, big sunnies and all. They’re usually flanked by a mass of creepy guys wearing even bigger sunnies, lacquered in baby oil (e.g. Karl) Well today Bondi broke the world record for the largest swimsuit shoot in the world. (Even had the official Guinness honkie counting) Yep… 800 or so young babes posed for cameras in choppers and the beach, made letters in the sand (OMSOC) and bathed in the sun on this glorious spring day. Of course Aquabumps has some distracting images that you can forward around to 50,000 of your mates like last time (LYNX).  LARGEST SWIMSUIT SHOOT IN THE WORLD PHOTOS@ Bondi beach.

Waves?
Huh what waves? Someone say something? Kiddin – We’ve got waist high waves somewhere out there beyond the 800 girls. Crystal blue/green water. NE winds. All good and worth a mess around if you’re in the vicinity. It’s dropping fast and tomorrow you’ll be scrapping half the size. Later::uge
PS – Sydney has officially ran out of fake tan and I’ve invited all 800 girls to the next Aquabumps party in Nov – hope that’s ok.

excess baggage
It was complete chaos down at Bondi this morning as we fang down the highway into Summerville. At 6am the beach was packed with sweaty frothas shedding winter excess baggage… just in time to squeeze into that summer cozzie.
The surf was also manic at 7am. I saw about 45 guys on one peak. Wasn’t that great either. Good size 3-4 foot, but really messy and either closing out sectioning or fattie-boom-bas. Its going to blow onshore soon, 15 knots from the SE, so if you were planning a little visit, best be quick now. Also it drops dramatically from here (not much surfing this week)…Gloriously sunny day and a top of 23. Yeha. Enjoy your day, ::ugios

earlybirdWhat a Aquabumps report out before 9am? Get back on your chair. No more south pacific junkets amidst mini island paradises. Nope. Gotta say Bondi turned on a little piece of its own paradise this morning. Glorious sunrise at 5:30am, clear skies (no haze), no wind and a small south swell producing 2-3 footers (some bigger). Crowds were low, well it was 5:30am on a Monday so sane people were still mid shut eye. Winds will swing from NW to NE today. Perfect for south facing beaches attracting the most of this south swell. Enjoy::uge

PacifcoBulla. Last report from this 4 hectares of paradise. Another perfect day up here with best waves of the week. Hell you know it’s good when all the island staff (including the owner) are out surfing. Namotu has a good selection of waves that will suit everybody from fast pipey rights to cruisy Mal-lefts. The water is ridiculously clear everyday – it is just off the scale and on par with Tahiti as the clearest in the world. Water temperature is approx 25-26 everyday. Paradise.
The lucky island owner Scottie O’Connor has had the island for 12 years. He stumbled across it when he was shooting a commercial in the nineties. It only had one tree on it back then due to violent cyclones. Scottie was Australia’s 1st professional windsurfer (KA02) and is originally a Narrabeen boy. He’s not afraid either, seen some pics of him charging 30 foot out the front of his island.
Aquabumps Gallery OpenYep you guessed it. The Gallery is open all weekend 10am to 4pm at 98 Brighton Boulevard, North Bondi. Just tucked in behind the North Bondi RSL. Drop by. Eat some eggs next door. Vinaka from Namotu (Fiji). uge

black skiesStorms have hit the little island paradise of Namotu (Fiji) thankfully bringing swell. Big patchy dark spots in the sky creating unusual lighting conditions for shooting. We surfed a wave magnet reef that was super shifty and 3-4 foot. Loads of fun to be had. Nothing better than surfing in boardies again. From my last peek at the Sydney surf conditions; there is not much happening back home today. Back soon. Adios ::uge

LazyStill remarkably flat here in Fiji but the good weather continues to power on – just like Sydney. So I guess we both have to find something else to do. Paddle boarding seems popular on the 1 footers. Tick. Walk around the island. Tick. Dunnit (hey only takes 7 minutes). Swim time. The water is just so clear and blue, its incredible. Won’t rub it in anymore – back to work kids ::uge

island locoA tiny swell still tortures Fiji at the moment, but the water holds its superior clearness. Max 2-3 foot here today – nothing mega. I’ve been told to "diversify my interests" by the fishing guide. Still plenty to do in this aquatic playground…
Yesterday, a hand full of pro kite-boarders on the island hit the potent Skullrags cocktails from midday – you’ve never heard such disastrous karaoke. One guy ended up splitting his head open after diving into an empty concrete swimming pool. Lucky to be alive. Doc had the stapled gun onto him – haven’t seen him since. Funny that.
Bondi should have waves today – probably bigger than here…but hard to see with this fickle internet sat connection. Have a great day :: uge

Na-mo-tuBulla. Today’s Aquabumps comes from one of the most stunning islands in the world – Namotu in Fiji oohhh yeah. This tiny 4 hectares of paradise lies next door to one of the world’s best waves – the almighty Cloud Break, arena for the one of the ASP world tour stops in 2006. Namotu takes around 7 minutes to walk around the island – you could kick a footie across the middle of it. It’s owned by an aussie guy called Scottie, his wife and two Labradors. You can fit about 20 guests, and the island has exclusive rights to a 200 metre left right out the front. Not a bad set up.
Fiji has the clearest water in the world – full stop. Visibility is just off the hook. And blue…my gawd. So blue. So blue it looks fake. Pity about the waves today…’cause it’s barely breaking and a few are already getting stuck into the cocktails. Apparently swell coming Wednesday.
Bond-eyeIt seems Bondi suffers the same fate as Fiji – no waves. I hear weak 1 footers from the NE today. Tomorrow should pick up a bit with a new south swell poking around the 3 foot mark…and that looks like the best day of the whole week as it shrinks back to 2 foot from Wednesday onwards.
Have a great day. Vinaka. ::Uge

snoozerSlept in slightly (well to 6:50am) and missed the sunrise. Of course it just happened to be one of the best this year (so I’ve been told by numerous people – thanks for rubbing it in). By the time I got down there it was smeared with grey clouds and starting to spit. Well it seems you guys just want to see pictures of girlies in rafts anyway (kiddin ok). On that, we’re edging close to 50,000 unique people looking at this link – http://photos.aquabumps.com/lynx/index.html – in 3.5 days! There is no advertising on that link, so there is no benefit to me don’t worry…just cracks me up on how far you can push things on the web.
I digress.
Didn’t miss anything in the surf department whilst having a lie in – that’s for sure. It’s like sub 1 foot, and um…kinda boring. No waves, no rafts, no sunshine…but how about maximum temp of a muggy 28 degrees. Forecast – flat this weekend. Next Tuesday you’ll see a spike and the rest of the week is actually looking ok. I will be in sunny Fiji and hopefully doing some reports from there…have fun.
The Aquabumps Gallery is still open all weekend 10am to 4pm, and next week Wed to Friday 10am to 5pm. 98 Brighton Boulevard, North Bondi. Since you won’t be surfing, might as well come see some waves above and below the surface. more

morning gloryJust like yesterday we’ve got close to flat conditions this morning. I know you’re looking at the pics in this report thinking the contrary…but you’re seeing the best 4 waves of my 1.08hr shoot this morning (max 2 foot). Magic morning with perfect sunshine, warm, no wind, and 10,000 people out exercising…working of that winter luggage. Min 10, Max 22 today. Water still very cool 18.
The bad news : no swell on the horizon, 5 days of flatness ahead. Best make yourselves useful and do something else (e.g. work, shopping with the lady friend). This flat period has forced me to book a ticket to Fiji, so if the internet connection on Namotu is working, and my luggage makes it there, you’ll be receiving some pics from one of the best waves in the world next week – the almighty Cloud Break.

u crack me up.You guys crack me up. Really. I mean… I travel all over the globe hiding in little tubes, spending hours waiting on cliffs for good light, getting’ pummeled regularly, lugging 50 kilos of camera gear along the way…all in search of that epic wave shot…and yesterday I upload images of 40 girls in bikinis, shot 100 metres from my gallery and I get over 15,000 unique visitors (IN THE FIRST 2 HOURS!) yeah that’s right. So far over 24,000 of you little frotha’s bored at work have been through this online photo gallery of the Lynx Raft landing at North Bondi yesterday (that’s a record for click thrus on Aquabumps in 24hr timeframe). We’ll crack the hundjie by the weekend. Also thanks for the 136 emails of encouragement from all over the globe, oh, and don’t worry girls we’re not turning into RALPH mag.
Back to the beach now…
waves.Basically there is none. These photoshopped dribbles down at Bondi were freak sets. It’s pretty much flat in between sets and breaking right on the shore. The tweaked colours are a poor effort to make something interesting of my bland morning shots.
But its sunny and 21 degrees today. 10-15 knots of NW offshore going variable by the afternoon. Swell totally bottoms out today and will go sub 1 foot by night fall. Good day to go lie out on the grass.
Later: yooj(tough day in the office)

raft-up
Everyday is different down at Bondi. Take this morning for example. Going for my morning swim across the bay, and what should I run into? Dead fish? A loose board? A raft full of hungry women? Yeah that’s right. A raft full of women powering to the beach to ravage a pack of eagerly awaiting nerds. Bit like a scene out of Californication. Anyway took a few shots and slapped an online gallery for you to check out. Boys – don’t take down the web server. It’s still recovering from Miss Bondi last year. Girls – you may not find this content interesting I know.

waves
Yes we have waves today. Smaller than yesterday 2 foot with 3 foot sets. Clean. NE swell doesn’t suit Bondi, something like Whaley, Bra, Manly should be better. I saw a few shorey’s in the middle putting on a bit of heat. But nothing to race down the beach for. Winds offshore for the next few days as the good weather kicks in, but this swell is weak and evaporating by tomorrow. Later: uge

APEC me offAhhhh yes, back to normal Bondeye. No more black hawk choppers… no SWAT teams patrolling the beach… gone are the bus loads of cops… no more 1st ladies of APEC gettin’ tipsy on Poshberg’s Lychee Martinis. It’s all over folks…that 5 kilometres of APEC security fence is coming down today. Can’t blame APEC for the rain, the week of onshores, the traffic, and scam days off work anymore cause of your APEC flu. Look at the bright side of APEC, you actually could find a car park in Bondi, or for that matter anywhere in Sydney. For real. It seems everyone evacuated town over the weekend. So welcome back.
bumpsWe have waves today. It’s our first offshore/sunny day in ages. I saw sets around 3 foot this morning (7:00am). Clean, lining up quite nicely and somewhat consistent. The 7:30am high tide was putting loads of pork in the bump, closer to the 1pm low tide you should see great improvement in conditions. Shuttin’ shop and I’m out there. Today’s the best day of the week as it declines from here. Seeya, uge

blow
The unrelenting onshore easterlies continue for another day. Yawn. Pass the crumpets. 20 knots of hack job really. A few lone wolves out this morning optimistically searching for a rideable peak. Odd 3 footer in the south end of Bondi (kinda) wedged up – Perth found a few little ramps. Otherwise an infrequent wave broke against the north end. Ok, perhaps fuggedaboutit and wait until next Monday when the winds finally swing offshore. The weekend looks – well, wet with bad weather mostly and onshore surf conditions. Sunday will see a dramatic rise in size (6-8 foot range), but the winds will still be light onshores with 9 knots of SE.
You know where we should be right now – WA down south e.g. Margies. I’ve seen some smokin’ pictures from the past few days of 8 metre swell. I knew I should have gone and kicking myself now dammit. It looks as big as big gets.
gallery open this weekend
If you’re not using this APEC excuse to pack up the car and bake it to a country wave, come see the Aquabumps gallery – hell it’s not like you’ll be surfing of nuttin’. OPEN FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 10am to 4pm. If you can’t make it into the gallery I’ve prepared the lazy man’s flick book online, so you can browse my shop and call (02)9130 8371 to get yourself some artwork for that blank wall.

MobyEvery day is different down the beach – especially at Bondi. Sometimes it’s an onshore slobbering mess (like today – forget about it). Sometimes it’s smoking. Sometimes there are 30 police scouring for evidence after a missing person. Sometimes there are 15 backpackers still peaking from the night before thinking they’re at Ibiza. Oh yeah, sometimes there’s a giant whale bang in the middle of Bondi. As the world’s media swoon on Sydney for the APEC shindig, we’d expect a whole lot more of these media stunts/exhibitions. I’m organizing mine right now for Aquabumps exposure…
The surf is diabolical today. Horrendously onshore and messy. You’re dreaming if you think you’ll get a decent wave any where. 3-5 foot of mush. Wait for the winds to drop in a few days.
Holy CowThe biggest garage sale ever – and all for charity (the Holy Cow Project). Wairoa Scout Hall, on Wairoa Avenue in North Bondi (just behind the public school) is having a massive garage sale this weekend raising money to build a library in India. The local community have donated books, furniture, Stezzas, kitchen stuff etc. Come see. SAT 8TH SEPT 1PM – 6PM, SUN 9TH SEPT 8AM – 6PM

submerge
As forecasted the south change kicked in last night bringing rain, swell and a menacing howling onshores. Is ridiculously messy out there and not worth surfing at all. In fact this whole week looks very onshore and wet – that sneak preview into summer weather is all over for the time being, so back to ruggin’ up. This wind is agitating a swell though, just need to wait for the winds to die – approximately a week’s time. Hope these tropical underwater scenes keep you going in between surfs.

rOAr
Surfing isn’t the only sport on the globe. For real. Since there is no surfing to be had this week, perhaps check out some other sports. Well a mate of mine has just launched a new sports opinion site called The Roar…and its good, so go see.

brink.
A trickling pulse continues to push 2 foot rideable waves into the southern corner this morning down at Bondi. You could just smell change in the air as an early morning offshore (w) was starting to kick onshore (s/se) by the time I put my cameras away. That onshore will increase to 20 knots by the end of the day.
Good news is that today’s south change is bringing swell. As they’ve been enjoying down in Victoria over the weekend, we get our dose all week, but it’s flanked with a nuisance onshore.
From a far, this weekend looks to be a good for a surf. Plenty of swell, just pray the winds back off. So I know most of you are using APEC as an excuse to disappear on a surf trip out of town – it looks good so far. Book it.
get up – media stunt
On Friday the 5th of September at 8am on Bondi beach, Get Up are going to perform a stunt for the world’s media relating to adopting international binding greenhouse emission reduction targets at the APEC (and to continue on toward the UN meeting later in the year in Bali). Check out www.getup.org.au for more information on the campaign and sign the online petition.
The plan is to get as many people there at Bondi to form a human climate action target on the beach around a 10m by 10m banner and then have some people paddle it out on the water.
They need bodies (live ones) and surfers…as many as possible to help. For more information people can contact Scott [email protected]
