Redundancy rights - nice wall, Sam firing down the line

Redundancy rights

With all the doom and gloom in the economy at the moment, plenty of jobs are being lost. I am sure everyone knows someone who has lost their job. Well, look at the bright side, always a good time to go surfing no matter what. A good mate of mine came for a wave this morning – today being his 1st day of freedom. He’s booked a round the world ticket and surfing mostly in South America soon. Now that’s a trip.

Today there were some waves at the Southern end of Maroubra. Seeing the south change came in early you need to seek protection and this dying east swell was still getting right up into those corners. After lunch the swell will kick around to the south and become more of a weak windsell. Not ideal. Tomorrow it should crank up a little and hopefully this howling wind will subside.

Dead Body at Tama

Around 5pm yesterday a dead body of a young teenager – male, drifted into the peak at Tamarama amongst the surfers. The body was fully dressed in jeans and sneakers showing no signs of movement – head down. Sad times. The Westpac chopper arrived winching the body out of the water soon after it had been spotted. That’s all that is known at this stage.

Dropping into the steep shorey

Surburban hollow

One way to permanently part your hair. Big backwash

Rock hoppin' in the southern corner (shallow reef)

  1. I was out the back at Tama last night and was the first to see he body very diturbing to say the least – the Westpac chopper was looking for here for 15 minutes before they saw all us surfers waving I thought it was a women ?
I was somewhat relieved when I found out he/she jumped rather than fell in !

hope to god that never happens to me again

makes you realise life is very fragile !

  2. Hi Uge, loving the photos as always.

I would be great to see some video clips of the action down there? would it be possible to also have video posts!
    or,
Are there any webcams at bondi?

Kind thanks, Keep up the motivation and amazing creativeness.

  3. I was out surfing yesterday when the dead body floated into the line-up. It definitely looked like a girl ( rather than bloke ) when the Westpac crew winched the body up to the chopper. Bloody sad seeing that sort of thing

  4. I’m sorry for that young kid and that she didn’t know that there is always someone to talk to and someone who understands…we just have to be willing to try to open up,huh. Bless ya kid.
Life is a precious gift. Thanks Uge…..Joella
