The perfect beach (if it had waves)

Maya Beach, Phi Phi

So it’s Tuesday afternoon, and you haven’t received an Aquabumps fix this week…you’re probably wondering what the hell is going on? Well, I’ve been moving around a bit and today’s photos are from Maya Beach, Phi Phi (that’s Thailand kids). Why? Well I won’t go into detail but ended up spending the afternoon there yesterday – in the 35 degrees of Thai killer heat. And I am not talkin’ about that Patong heat. It’s seriously steamy over there.

You might recognise Maya Beach, even if you’ve never travelled to Thailand…in 1999 it featured in the movie “The Beach” where Leonardo Di Caprio went a little mental. All I can say is that it’s real…and looks just as good as the postcards/movies. The colours were phenomenal. Impossible to take a bad photo of the joint. If it had a peeling right hand barrel off those big twin rocks, I’d call it my number 1.

Well back to reality now…and I have started chippin’ away at my inbox for the afternoon, whilst Bondi is 6 foot, raining and horrendously onshore. Go seek protection for a wave, maybe Manly, but don’t get too excited – it’s mush.

Onshore until Wednesday afternoon ::later::uge

    1. Thanks Bro, I thought you would have been there on your last trip. It’s AMAZING. Crowded though, but like Bondi…boats everywhere. Seems to have stolen a lot of tourists from Bali…

  1. UGE – now I know why your prices are so high in the shop – sponsoring your vacation time hey??? – perhaps a few discounts might be nice considering your extravagant lifestyle we are funding!

  2. Stunning shots.. especially the half underwater Debs shot.. keep em coming…
    Keeping us in touch with the water – even in the office.. appreciated..

  3. nice uge, you lucky bastard. – i was there in 2002 – before the tsunami, Maya needed a good ‘cleanup’ after that, all i saw on the beach was rubbish from overzealous tourists.

  4. far out, this makes me wanna go to thailand right now. these are the best of your recent shots… love the longtail boats and the swimming shot of debs.
    good one

  5. I would have thought seeing Uge is a beach/water photographer he would have to travel to exotic destinations to fill the gallery with his incredible artwork. A job most of us would wish for and a pretty smart way to carve out a living. I’m sure like you Steve – most of the population are wondering why they didn’t think of it first!

    Keep up the amazing work Uge. I think your artwork is totally under priced.

  6. Great shots, love the colours! Was there in September this year for a week, maya beach had surfable 2-3foot waves, phuket had also had 3foot waves, long barrels.

  7. Uge – I’ve got it on good authority that half of bondi is there right now. The pics are great. Please don’t make it any harder by taking pictures of those mugs, especially the one called Brett! Enjoy, look ridiculously good. Barnsi.

  8. While you’re there get a burger from Paddy at GBPP (down the lane from all the dive shops)… the Kiwi Burger is to die for!! Enjoy

  9. Hey Uge, in town and dropped into your gallery – they said you you were o/s for a cple days. Now I know where – love your work! and I want I job like yours!! D
