Sin City

I’ve been carrying around Canon cameras for years that are video capable…but have never gone there. Well today we filmed our first little Aquabumps video. Watch it (it’s only 2 minutes long) as it pretty much sums up the sensational morning. Remember it’s our first vid (and have no clue) so go easy. Waves are 2-3 foot and the winds are kinda offshore. The crowds are massive and most waves have multiple surfers, some 5 or 6, some even 10. Seems to be dropping off…but will return later in the week.

Springcourts are the most comfortable shoes. I live in them. Today Aquabumps readers can get 50% off black or white canvas mid tops. Yes, half price. Buy Buy Buy honks (today only!)

  1. Uge if thats your first shot at a video, you’re a bloody natural mate.
    Love ya work.

Just been watching the London riots on video and then watched your piece, talk about a different world!!!
Thats why I moved to Oz.

    Cheers for the inspiration

  2. Hey Uge. Awesome video mate. I cant believe you took so long to press the record button. Hahaha. I gotta sent you that video I told you.
I look foward to see the following videos.
    Cheers

  3. Hey Uge,

Loved the vid but is there any chance that for future reference we have a song that does not make me want to commit suicide. Sorry mate a bit overstated but that “gee I’m feeling sorry for myself” theme is all the go with creatives at the moment.

I actually liked the song but how bout something to charge us up.

  4. Great job on the vid – Vibe / quality / music – its got the lot – You set a very high precedent for yourself!

  5. made me unhappy – sitting here in London amidst the riots – I know where I would rather be 🙂 awesome vid

  6. Sensational footage!!!! I’m sitting in my Melbourne office – grey, gloomy day down here today. I love getting your daily email – now I’ll also look forward to your videos!!!

  7. A new era has begun!
If that’s the start, then you will be doing features in no time.
Sure changes the face of AB’s.
    Well done Uge, sensational!
Please don’t stop the video stuff, kinda makes the stills fade into the backround.

  8. Lovely lovely clip to greet the day with – my son is over here in the UK from Sydney at the moment. I’ll get him to watch it! Don’t you dare stop doing the stills though!!! Would like to discuss a small project at some stage. We have met a couple of years ago…

  9. Great shots Uge!
I think you video is fantastic, in my opinion the colours look a bit wash out. Did you edit with the camera H264, I prefer to convert the clips to some other format that manages a bit better colour depth. I usually use a very flat picture profile and then contrast a bit. I know is a very quick edit and theres no much time for colour correction.

Thanks very much for that video, it really admire the way you art has evolve I bet you will go very far with video as you have done with stills.

Ps little misspell on the credits the band is Yo la tengo.

  10. Mate,

From autumnal Stockholm, there can’t be a better way to start the day than this video. Awesome. Keep them coming, please !

  11. Gr8 Video Uge …. Definitely had tears in my eyes seeing how nice it is down there right now and sitting in the U.S

  12. Awesome,
    You obviously know Bondi well!
You knew exactly where to stand for those shots.
    Feels so intimate.
    Really nice work.

  13. Wish I could produce such a masterpiece first up. My son was sitting in the background playing video games and turnred down his volume and paused his game so he could watch and listen. Well done I can never get him to turn it down let alone stop playing to do what I ask. Really enjoyed the footage as well as the music. I have heaps of videos I need to edit do you have any gumby tips for the first timers?

  14. Great work… love it. Nice slo-mo from the 7D and those L series lenses really come into their own with that great morning light.

I really like that you incorporated some subtle pans and tilts, which must be one of the biggest adjustments from shooting stills?

    Look forward to seeing more.

    Thanks for the daily inspiration.

    Luke..

  15. Uge – that was a great video – sums up the essence of what you see at a morning in the surf at Bondi – really enjoyed and something I’d love to see regularly – maybe once a week or twice a month?

Great work – REALLY enjoyed it!

  16. I just sent the link to your video to a friend in LA with the subject line: Why I live where I live. You summed it up in a couple of minutes Uge. Really lovely to watch. Well done!
