Caleb Reid flying high, watch the video!

The Junkyard

Even though the swell has come up overnight, the quality just isn’t there. Random waves broke around 3-4 foot this morning down. It’s really shifty (bit like my filming) – quite hard to surf.

You’re probably wondering why there’s not pics in this daily email…yep, it’s all in our Aquabumps second video, shot ‘n’ edited all in a few hours for today. (thank Rob Stanton-Cook for the help with the edit). I’ll let the video fill you in on the day…all shot on Canon EOS cameras with L Series lenses.

  1. Hi Uge,
Look forward to your pics each day.
My two cents worth – stay with stills.
I’ve been taking photos for 30 years, and love the art form. I have cameras now too that will take good video, but it’s not the same. Anyone can shoot video, and it takes much longer to consume.
Your archive of stills of Bondi is a fantastic body of work, but video is a temporary medium.
Maybe I’m old school, but in the hundreds of galleries around the world I’ve visited, I always walk straight past the video installations.
An image is special because it’s a moment captured, from all the moments that surround it. A video is just a replay of what happened at that time, no matter how well edited or artfully shot.

    Keep up the good work,
    cheers,
    Rob.

  2. G’day Rob, thanks for writing in. Yeah stills is always gonna be me. Just mucking around with video for something different. been shooting stills of Bondi for 12 years now…that’s a long long time…so a bit of stuff keeps the creative blood pumping. Don’t worry – I won’t switch to the dark side! ::uge

  3. Those damn corproate fire walls are SOOO tight! Wowsa, if you can’t see video you guys miss out on a lot of stuff. Oh well, back to pics tomorrow don’t worry.::uge

  4. Cool idea but prefer the photos. Would rather have a quick scroll over shots of the beach and surf that be directed to another site and see a video… The art is in capturing the image!

  5. Love your work, has a great Zen feel to it, helps us corporate stress heads chill out for 5, please keep it up

  6. From a 57 year old Stones, Hendrix etc fan: compliments on the magnificent music to soothe the aggro Bondi soul. The vids are a more realistic reflection of our experience at Bondi. Photos are good but as we all know they can make Frankenstein look like a Marilyn Monroe(that does make me sound from another era).

  7. Awesome work as always, also caught the Slashies clip too, nice to put a face to the name and hear some of your thoughts on what you do. Could write a whole bunch of drival but “inspiring” springs to mind first and foremost. Never stop doing what you love.

  8. Uge, that’s my favourite music – love to play it and yet never hear anyone else playing it!
This video has just made my week and taken me away from the dross sitting behind a computer in an English town MILES from the sea! Thank-you thank-you thank-you!

  9. Lads dropping in on eachother…..exactly how i remember Bondi!
Awesome little vid though…keep it up bro!

  10. Uge

Great work again – yes your pics are what makes this site awesome, but as I metnioned after your first one, the vids are cool to mix it up – keep em coming!

  11. Hi Uge

Love the updates, and while the videos are cool, they are a little harder to watch discretely while stuck in an open plan office. Can you keep the pics coming, as they are my saviour!
