Bondi 7:10am, Pama Davies coming hard off the bottom

Taking photos is all about being in the right place at the right time.

If you stood at Bondi, around 10:30am yesterday this is what you would have captured:

  • Looking to your right you would have seen super fun waves for the Bondi Board riders comp. I saw the cars and setup still there this morning, so I think beers were abundant.
  • The Chilli Jam Skate comp was on at the Bondi bowls…full house there.
  • Looking to your left there was a concert on – oh and a Winter Festival… not a spare inch of grass left.
  • Hang on…look to the Bucket List and you’ll see the Lions Rugby team guzzling beer – celebrating their win. I don’t think I have ever seen so many people down at the Bucket.
  • And then…what? A Whale came in close and slapped a surfer, flinging him in the air, rendering him unconscious. C’mon…what is the chances of that? A freak. A one in a billion. I can’t work out who shot this photo as it has been flung around the web, but I am so bummed I didn’t take it. A miracle shot.

So…all this was happening at once on our small city beach…just 900 metres of it – on a day where I decided to enjoy the sunshine and put the lens down. I’ve spent hours following whales in the bay at Bondi, and they barely lift a tail. Oh well, next time.

This morning I did capture some good chunky waves with a solid south ground swell. Hit it.

    1. Perhaps you would do well to do some research Shaun, before commenting and removing any doubt that you are an imbecile.

    2. Fuck! Sorry! The one time I rely on just tineye, excuse me while I go choke down some humble pie…

    1. Hey Tony and Tom, take it easy fellas…yeah that shot is a fake I hear…what a funny day down at Bondi!

  1. I can’t believe I was surfing the middle break at the time and had no idea this even happened, I guess it really was a big Saturday night.

  2. Haha any chance of an apology Tom? And maybe taking some of your own advice before writing someone off?
