Wading

Best morning of the week so far. The weather was deluxe, water warm, waves small but piping… I swam for 1’n’half hours with my camera in hand. I do love my job. Feel alive today.

Recently I’ve been commenting on those new rent-a-bikes. Just to clarify, I am ALL FOR bike sharing 100% (I ride a bike 90% of the time). Anything sharing really has to be an excellent idea, car sharing, home sharing, board sharing…but, I am not that impressed with the lack of base stations or places to park ’em. If you go to any other major cities with bike shares, they have base stations everywhere. Use the bike, park and lock it up, neat and tidy – done. The concept of dump ya bike wherever doesn’t seem to work in my view. They are everywhere…places you will never find. I know they’re GPS tracked, but I feel popular locations could do with somewhere to park ’em. Bondi Beach has 3 bike racks on Campbell Parade. That’s 3 to cater for hundreds of these bikes that never make it back up the Bondi hill.

It’s official, Christmas orders at the Aquabumps Gallery are in full swing. If you want custom made artwork from our galleries, please drop in or order online.

  1. I agree about the bikes, 100% uge. I have seen them work in Milan, but as you say, there is a dock to put the bike back in (and where the next person can hire it). A willing renter is not going to find them where I have seen them – up trees, dumped in gardens, etc.

  2. Spot-on with your comment re: the rental bike racking/storing problem, Uge. I’ve been complaining to Sydney City Council about this for weeks. Thank you.
