Spinal Tap

You’ve heard me mention the dire situation of our Bondi sandbanks for surfers… well… I was hoping the Bulldozers would come south and throw us a bone – no such luck. The Dozer work completed on North Bondi has seemed to make the shoreline even steeper (if that is possible) – what that means for swimmers is it’s exploding right on the shore edge, where you usually think it’s safe to stand. These shoreline thumper setups are dangerous, and you get a lot of neck and spinal injuries when it’s like this. It’s much safer to rush out the back into deeper water where it’s not dumping.

There is a large swell approaching, making its way from Queensland and arriving this weekend. I really, really hope it changes the banks for good.

Surf this morning?

Nah. South Bondi was unsurfable…and there aren’t many other options. Perhaps on a lower tide, you might find something to ride.

Have a great day,

FYI I spoke to Council workers this am 14th. I was told that the Bulldozer has been sent off in disgrace. Too slow and badly done!

  2. Yep – I was sadly in Prince of Wales hospital visiting a friend last week; they’ve had 9 serious spinal cases this year – a lot from Coogee – so be careful out there everyone.
