As predicted, the swell has fallen off a cliff — we’re down to dribbles. A feeble bump rolls through every now and then, just enough to remind you there was surf yesterday. The nor’easter is already puffing, giving everything that summery, beach vibe.
The water’s still on the chilly side…I’m stubbornly hanging onto the wettie. But the beach? Filling fast. Running a business here in Bondi, I see who’s wandering past the gallery — today alone: French, Germans, Canadians, half of the UK, and a solid scattering of Scandos. Tourism is returning to the ’hood. Wild to think how empty the place was during Covid.
Will we crack another 50,000-humans-on-Bondi day this summer? That’s the unofficial record. You’ll know it’s happening when every street leading to the beach becomes a stationary car park.
Maybe a smidge more swell tomorrow, but don’t get too excited.
