There are eight major beaches in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, but the two headline acts are Bondi and Coogee. Bondi takes the crown as the most visited beach in Australia, while the flat-water lovers tend to drift toward the calmer shores of Coogee.
For a small beach, Coogee packs a punch: four ocean pools (Wylies, Ross Jones Memorial Pool, Giles Baths and McIver’s Ladies Baths), the Pride Walk, and seriously impressive beach infrastructure—clean, well maintained, and always buzzing.
If you have a bub in the East, chances are you’ll spend some time at the Coogee Crown Hotel Hospital, the unofficial extension of Randwick Women’s. I’ll never forget waking up in Coogee with a brand-new tiny human in the room, wondering where the instruction manual was and what on earth we were supposed to do next. Many of you know the feeling.
There are still no waves, as this flat spell rolls on. There’s a theory that these calm periods allow the beaches to rebuild and replenish sand after a fierce winter of pounding swells—would love an expert opinion on that one. After the wild winter we had, I’ll happily take the calm.
The Bondi shots were taken yesterday—oh my, it was busy. Water crystal blue, almost turquoise.
Adios, have a good week : : Uge
