Bondi was kinda firing this morning. It’s been a while since the bay dished up genuinely enticing waves, but today ticked a few boxes. The rainwater murk has finally flushed, the shark anxiety has eased, and the crowds are back — soaking up a solid run of head-high, punchy bowls.
We’ve got 16 knots of summery NE on it now (1pm), the sand is really starting to stack, and it’s an absolute knockout beach day. Tourism feels high, smiles everywhere — Bondi putting on its best outfit and showing off for the city.
My last lunchtime surf check suggests the swell is already easing. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the tide swings back in for the 5:24 pm high. Water temp is a balmy 23 degrees — bikinis, boardies, maybe a vest if you’re soft. That’s it. Love this time of year, when the ocean feels more like a bath than the Pacific.
Smaller tomorrow. Bit of a grovel. But the beach will still be dreamy — clear blue skies, warm air…
In surf news: J-Bay is off the WCT tour, but in comes the quiet little town of Raglan, New Zealand, as stop number four. I love Raglan — an epic, sleepy surf town — and those long left walls will be a spectacle when the world’s best slay.
