Wind Made Waves

The wind was absolutely howling last night, and with it came a whole lot of swell.

Bondi has jumped considerably overnight. There are solid six-footers marching into the bay this morning, with plenty of water moving around.

Early was the window. It was semi-clean before the southerly really got into it, and there were some chunky ones rolling through. Now the wind is flanking the new swell and making a bit of a mess of Bondi.

If you’re chasing a wave today, I’d be looking for the protected southern corners. Bronte and anywhere hiding from the southerly will probably be your best bet.

The official forecast has 2.5–3 metres of south swell today, with large and powerful surf conditions. Tomorrow still has plenty of size, around 2–3 metres, but the big difference is the wind. It’s forecast to back right off, so Friday morning could be worth watching. Could be a good shooting morning if the swell behaves itself.

Meanwhile, the ISA World Juniors are running in El Salvador, with 420-plus of the world’s best groms surfing La Bocana and El Sunzal. We’ve got a bit of local interest too. Bondi Boardrider Joakim “Yoki” Bjorck is representing Finland, while Rio Luther Barr is surfing for Australia in the U16s. Go boys.

And if you need more surfing to watch, the Championship Tour rolls into Lower Trestles next, with the competition window running 11–20 September.

Big few days in the ocean.
