Ela – ela!

Little Milos has had a rough history.

Milos was forged from ancient volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis. Its coastline is super unique. Nothing quite like what I’ve seen before. Sarakíniko Beach (Σαρακίνικο) is like landing on a white moon that has a bright green inlet feeding into it. Underneath Sarakíniko there’s a warren of abandoned mine caves and tunnels which were built during World War II (Germany took over the island in May of 1941).

The more history I read about this tiny, quiet beach-rich island – the more I can’t believe it. There have been Spartan wars here, hell even the Russian Empire took possession of it for three years and of course, it was once run by the Romans (there are Roman ruins here). Athenian invaders once eliminated all the males on the islands (416 B.C.)! All this, on a little island like Rottnest which currently houses 4,000 residents. Who’d thought?

Today – beaches are plentiful and they all have their own personalities. It’s sunny and 28 degrees all day long. Haven’t seen a cloud in the sky yet.
