Sydney Love

Been for a surf? Looks pretty good out there. In fact, the whole week looks great. Wax up. It’s school holidays so I’m hanging with my groms, not shooting daily and these updates will be a tad patchy.

When most people think of Sydney, they have visions of a bowl of fruit and a coathanger – better known as Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been shooting the moods of these two icons from different angles – the air, the west, the east. I’m finding there just so many possibilities.

The city is quiet, lacking international tourists and office jockeys are now working from home. Access to the city is a lot easier than normal and the walk around Bennelong Point is spectacular at any time of day.

I bet you didn’t know the following about Sydney Opera House:

  • Took 14 years to build. (was only 10 years over budget)
  • Seawater is taken directly from the harbour and pumped around the Opera house to regulate temperature via 35 kilometres of internal pipes!
  • I once addressed 2,000 people in the main hall (AFR summit), it was quite possibly the most terrifying day of my life. I sweat still, thinking about it.
  • The structure cost $102 million and was largely paid for by a State Lottery (about 800 mil in today’s mulla)
  • In a typical year, 10.9 million people will visit Sydney Opera House!

  1. Amazing fresh looks on a beautiful subject Uge. Some of the most interesting perspectives of the opera house I’ve seen!

  2. This makes me so lonesome for Sydney…hope to get there before too long! Wonderful photos of a city I love.
