Inside the Heads

It’s Friday and not the prettiest of mornings down the beach. Let’s talk about something else…

There are 20 swimming beaches embedded into Sydney Harbour. More than you thought huh?

Our harbour is also the deepest port in the world – all 500 gigalitres of it.

Today we’re highlighting a few of my favourite haunts inside the heads – in particular on the north side (we did the East-side harbour beaches last week). The best way to see them all – on one of the 20,000 registered boats in Sydney Harbour. Fast one if possible…Manly may seem so far away from Bondi, but in a boat, it’s a few minutes and bang! you’re there!

Balmoral Beach is the jewel of the Northside with emerald green water – it’s close to the heads, so no muddy rivers interrupting the clarity there. Clontarf has a fantastic sectioned off swim area, good for the kiddos. Depending on the winds, Chinamans is a good idea, but I always try and stop at Castle Rock Beach – a tiny nook, with a sandy bottom beach. Perfect for a sundowner as it faces the right angle. The tiny Shark Island – kinda in the middle of the harbour is always good for an outing…swimming is a tad awkward with lots of rocks, but clean water. Nearby Little Manly has an awesome jump rock, and Quarantine & Store Beaches are good to chill.

Time to re-explore your own city, respecting the COVID safe practices like social distancing, washing hands and even a mask if coming in close proximity to others. For Sydney adventure ideas – head on over to sydney.com

We are all in this together, just a little further apart!
