🇪🇸Mallorca

Hola!

After 30 hours of travel from Sydney, I’ve arrived at the stunning Balearic Island of Mallorca (meaning ‘larger island’ in Latin). This rocky island has been the host of many sunseekers in The Med for centuries. The Romans, Audrey Hepburns and Elizabeth Taylors all have hung out here – hell…even our very own late Christopher Skase fled here when his empire crashed. Why? 300 days of sunshine and a year-round average of 21 degrees.

Oh…and the beaches aren’t too bad from what I’ve seen so far. I stalked Sa Calobra for weeks on Google Earth, the incredible tiny beach is nestled in between two of the biggest rocks you’ve seen with deep blue water. Doesn’t get much sun…hard to get to by land…but it will sit in my top 10 global beaches. (Yes, one day I’ll release a book on my search for the best beaches in the world)

Waves? Only been here less than 24 hours, but my circumnavigation around the island says – no, not in summer. Maybe in Winter.

I went straight from a Boeing 777 to dangling out of a helicopter – not a bad cure for jetlag. :: uge

  1. Not too far away, Minorca was a British navy base in the 18th century. Residents were recruited to move to a huge plantation in the British colony of Florida on the notion that Mediterranean crops would grow there. It was a disaster, but descendants of survivors stayed and there are still Minorcan families.

  2. My grand parents moved in Mallorca in the 70’s, I was “conceived” there. At one month and a half old, I was “swimming” in those pristine waters for the first time, and would then spend 5 weeks every year there. Learnt how to swim, snorkel, sail, dive there. I’ve know your work since 2011 when I moved to Bondi beach for a year. Seeing Mallorca through your eye is a bliss. Thank you.
