Byron Charms

Just mention the word ‘Byron’ and you’ll get a reaction from people. Words like ‘busy’, ‘lost it’ ‘exquisite’ and ‘paradise’ come up a lot. Some people adore the place, some people loathe it for its hustle.

I’m here in peak season, yeah there are people around (lots from Bondi), it’s got young energy, but the traffic ain’t as bad as some people talk it up. Ten cars in a line ain’t exactly a traffic jam. The town has outgrown its small-town infrastructure, trying to host two million visitors a year, but the joint has a magical charm about it. The weather is warm, so is the water, and you can still find plenty of beaches with no one around. Of course, if you’re chilling at the main beach or Da Pass, it will feel like Bondi.

Surfwise, there’s plenty of options. We have a nemesis North wind this week, and small waist to chest high swells, nothing amazing, but my groms are training for the Olympics on half-a-foot. It’s head high for them!

I missed my sunrise shoot at the lighthouse, as parking was overflowing, complete with trigger happy parking inspectors…tomorrow, walking up!
