Big boys rolling into the bay at sunset. Bondi

Monster Chunx

Photos of the beach today aren’t gonna do it – it’s an ugly day. The winds are up, the rain interminable and flooding has returned. My shoes have been soggy wet for days. (Life tip get a shoe drying rack for your dryer) For entertainment purposes, I’m showcasing images shot on “Super Saturday” – the […]

This morning, 5:30am colour luminescence

Luminous

The sun broke through the thick Ben Buckler cloud as the waves continue to break. Nice morning. It’s 2 foot, occasionally 3 foot if you’re lucky. Large crowd out enjoying the decent conditions. Swell is south and winds from the North. A mild day, 20 degrees. Enjoy it. :: uge

Ignition, Bondi Beach this morning

Outta the Darkness

Today we’re getting a little arty – get your french berets on. On 1 foot days with dark overcast skies, that’s just what you do…slow shutters, grain, grit and logs. It’s not pumpin’ but it sure is humid and muggy. Not really how I remember autumns. Good old Henry Crouch, he’s been reading Aquabumps for decades. I […]

Looks like the pot of gold is at the Aquabumps Gallery

El Junkie

Edition 4,656 of Aquabumps morning glory. Bondi Beach, 2-3 foot and a tad on the junkie side. Surfable yes, awesome, not really. Today started with some light rain. That didn’t discourage a few thousand people from hitting Bondi at sunrise. Fitness classes everywhere, walkers, talkers and mad keen surfers buzzing around. Tomorrow morning will be […]

7°C

The most notable aspect of this morning was the chill. It was cold at sunrise, 7°C is what my phone said. I’d say with the wind chill it would be more like 4°C or 5°C. There are waves in town…finally after a week of very small stuff…so now it’s 3 foot and fun-as. You’d have […]

Water People

I had a really good time shooting these ten photos down at Bondi Beach this morning. I hope it shows. The water was immaculate, warm and clear. The sun was out baking without a cloud of hindrance in the sky. Wind – there was none. Waves – none of those either. Well I guess I […]

Light

Today and tomorrow are the smallest days of this week. It may even be completely flat tomorrow and was barely breaking at sunrise today. The highlight of the morning was the spectacular sunrise. Gold. A perfect setup… thin cloud strewn across Bondi from Ben Buckler…then a small gap along the horizon illuminating the curtain from […]

S h i f t y*

In came the new dead south swell but so did it’s buddy the wind. Waves pushed up into the 3 foot range but 20 knots of cross shore will definitely put some randomness out there. The gale is said to calm down as the day progresses, one can only hope that means an improvement in […]

No Show

I was surprised to see the inbound swell hasn’t arrived yet as the period jumps from 6.3 secs (4am) to 13.4 secs (10am) and then onto a heavy 18 secs (10pm) by tonight. In simple terms that should mean a new ground swell flowing into Sydney – where is it? Maybe check it later. Should […]

Eastern closeouts

It had to rain eventually. Well it is winter and it hasn’t rained in about a month. Today we have a new swell in town, one from the East. Even though it was quite consistent and packing plenty of punch, it was unsettled and lining up badly. Bondi is pretty much useless on East swells […]

Crisp

There is something special about this time of year. June is the best month to be shooting Bondi. The winter solstice is in full swing and the sun now rises side on to the beach, blanketing rich golden light. Bondi is also quiet and calm with only a hand full braving the 7 degrees this […]
