I took 1 shot today. Oh man it was dark down there. Waves were junkie 2 footers…at least the rain cleared the line-up. Not a great beach day at all so stick to work.
All the other images in today’s update are from a few weeks ago.
Hey I am selling one of my Canon long lenses – probably the one I use the most, Fixed 300mm Version 1 F2.8. It’s on ebay, check it out.

Looks to me like last night’s wind knocked around the swell and it’s now tiny (knee cappers). It’s barely surfable. Seeing the clouds are here with rain I’d say it’s a great day to lock into office jockey mode and start nailing stuff off your list.
The good times will return, soon.
Some days it takes me a while to come up with my two paragraphs that sum up the morning. I get distracted a lot, trawl the web for inspiration and hours pass by…I find myself on google earth scoping out new isolated point breaks in Indo or drinking too much java.
Today 2 words sum up the morning. CRACKER + SUNRISE.
The colours were unbelievable, the water warm, the surf lame but doable. ENJOY!
It’s February and you’ve just come down from silly season. Time for a health kick. Sam the Fruitman will deliver a box of fresh fruit and veg to your door …BINGO! Dial these digits 0420 906 061 for immediate delivery at 50% off for Aquabumps readers! See
If I could I would be down there all day today. 10/10 beach day!
The water is warm and clear. The waves are small but surfable. (waist high)
Fortunately there is another back up south swell arriving tomorrow…that should pump a bit more grunt into the bump.
Seeya down there :: uge
So glassy, so smooth, so good to see a few waves down at Bondi this morning!
I think the good times will be short-lived as an onshore wind is about to blow. I saw some tasty rights in the corner – bit of junk on it…but well worth the paddle. I’d hit it now before it all goes bad. Low tide is 11am today – waves will close out around this time. Need a fuller tide.
This week looks so fun for surfers…if I hadn’t just come back from a month in Hawaii I’d take it off and head out of town. Good waves forecasted for most days…enjoy!
Did you see our artwork “The White Line” up in the latest release of Real Living Mag? Looks hot on the wall (My favourite artwork in the gallery at the moment)…see mag.
Sofía Vergara came down to Bondi beach this morning in attempt to get on Aquabumps. She brought down the whole modern family and 100 trucks of equipment…I told her, it’s gotta be spontaneous…at least she wore fluoro for Fluoro Friday.
So much going on down there at sunrise. Bowl-a-rama are setting up for a huge weekend of skating and Tony Hawk has been loitering. The Modern Family are filming in the middle of the beach (still down there now). Fluoro Friday gang were in full force and dominating the line-up. Packed!
Today the waves are pretty lame – waist high. Fortunately the forecast for the weekend looks optimistic. South swell 2-3 footers…semi onshore, just how we like it!
Come see us in the Aquabumps Gallery on the weekend 10am to 6pm, 151 Curlewis Street Bondi beach telephone 02 9130 7788.
The swell has kicked around to the East providing a few more options today. It’s still tiny yet surfable. I saw waves break around waist high with the odd set in the vicinity of shoulder high. Regardless, the windless conditions and warm water should be enough to motivate you.
Bondi was in a very good mood this morning bringing on some incredible colours at 6:30am. I love these mornings…they’re the best.
Have a great day, ::uge
Tiny, micro, small, stunted, wee, mini, inadequate, shrimp, runty, baby, toy, undersized waves today.
Plenty of crew out under dark grey morning skies. Muggy day, feels like Singapore. Max 29 degrees.
Go for a swim, it’s nice.
A good friend of mine rents out a couple of fancy houses in Bondi for holiday makers. Check ‘em out
Today started off well…a nice little fireball lit up behind Ben Buckler…but now she’s gone 50 shades of grey.
The surf – little glassy, waist high peaks, good for a grovel. Winds should be good all day. Just need a bit more swell. Friday is looking good at Bondi with a south swell and offshore SW wind (3-4ft).
My favourite sneakers (Springcourt) have started making kids sizes – YES!
Enjoy your day.
The recent wet scared many from a beach visit this morning. Bondi was all quiet.
Finally there are waves to talk about. Really sloppy ones but they broke around head high on the sets.
The conditions should clean up during the day and the sunshine will come out.
Wednesday looks like fun for surfers.
I took gigs and gigs of shots in Hawaii. Very few have been seen…over the next few weeks I’ll just sprinkle these shots into the daily updates.
We are looking for sales staff in our gallery. Read this
By the way…Adriano De Souza (BRA) and Carissa Moore (HAW) won the Australian Open for Surfing in Manly on the weekend.
There was a muggy sea mist smothering Bondi this morning. The waves are tiny (knee to waist) and they are running the girls over at Manly for the Australian Open of Surfing. This weekend there should be some waves for the comp…thankfully it’s a NE swell best suited for Manly. Watch it live now.
The sun fought its way through and it was a very nice morning to be down the beach! Go for a swim.
Our Bondi Aquabumps Gallery has been in operation for 10 years now and we are currently hunting for a new sales person to work on the floor. If you’ve read this job description and you sound like our type of person, apply by email with your 1 pager CV to [email protected]
If you visit Bondi and need some fancy accommodation, look no further. Stay Bondi houses are the go and so much cheaper than some of the hotels around here. Check these puppies out.
Hey there, I’m back in Bondi. Did you miss me? Bondi was kinda grey and 1 foot this morning. Quite a bit of chop on it also…yeah I know, that stinks. Everyone’s over at Manly anyway watching the Australian Open of Surfing. Looks tiny though. Live
My last day in Hawaii was incredible. Why? The weather, the water and the waves all came good to send me off. Oh boy it was hard to leave. Here’s the shots from that afternoon.
The Bondi Open Air Cinema is back on for another year. On these hot, muggy nights what could be better than watching movies on the beach! See the schedule here.

This is the final Aquabumps installment from the Hawaiian Sabbatical. After a stormy 30 days on “The Rock” I’m coming home…and I am bringing the rain with me by the look of it.
A lot of people ask me for holiday tips here. One day I’ll sit down and write up a big travel guide for the joint…but here’s a few tips in the meantime:
The surf is MOSTLY manageable for the average-advanced surfers…it was rarely under 6-8 foot this month. Its winter here – biggest swells of the year. Summer is flat on the North Shore and you need to surf the other side (Waikiki side). Waikiki is good for beginners.
The Hawaiians are super friendly in and out of the water. They have great surf etiquette. They follow the rules. I believe this is because the consequences are so great here if someone drops in. You really have to commit to a wave here. Once committed, you’re in and can’t easily opt-out…and if you commit to a wave with Sunny Garcia on the inside – RUN!
We flew Hawaiian Airlines to get here and they were great. For me the 64kg baggage allowance is a dream.
The Modern is a great funky hotel to stay at if going to the big smoke (Honolulu/Waikiki). The Surf Rider and Royal Hawaiian I hear are great as well.
Hire a car. It’s a must. I used JN Rentals and they were half the price of the big names. A drive around the island is like visiting Jurassic Park. All the coasts have dramatic mountains and crystal blue water. It’s a aquatic playground with warm water all year round. (no wetsuits required)
Shopping – hit the premium outlets at Waikele or you can’t go wrong at Alo Moana Centre in Honolulu.
Eat – fish (Ahi) or Shrimp (Prawns). So fresh, so good. Because there are so Japanese here the sushi is amazing.
If staying on the North Shore, eat dinner at Lei Lei’s or Ola’s (within Turtle Bay Resort). The White Elephant Truck has some of the best Thai I’ve tasted. Can’t believe it’s cooked in an old Fedex Truck.
Girl, you can wear a G-string here and no one will even look twice. It’s standard.
There is sugar in everything…and I mean everything.

Did you watch Kelly Slater nail it in the Volcom Pipe Pro yesterday? It was really quite something. The waves were good (finally), around triple head high and very hollow from a new swell. It was Slaters 66th tour win. Not bad for a guy that turns 42 next week. Well he DOES live right on the beach at Pipe and watches it all day long (when he’s not glued to Instagram). Loads of his late backhand drops were hands free…which you’d think it pretty impossible on such a wave.
This trip we’ve seen Slater everywhere on the North Shore, as if there were 10 of him. Every restaurant, sandbar, corner store…the 11 time World Champ would be roaming.
Back in Bondi soon, don’t forget about the Aquabumps Gallery which is open every single day 10-6.
Yesterday was a pretty fun day on the North Shore. The onshore Kona winds blew out my enthusiasm to shoot much. A 1.5hr drive across the island to hide from the winds just seemed all too hard. Was feeling lazy…y’know…3 weeks on The Rock can do that.
Out front the sand has been doing some crazy shapes and so has the water. The rips are rapids and the backwash can be chest high. The beach was deserted as the Superbowl was on. Jack Johnson, the eternal grommet was on the bar catching backwash out to sea and trying to reo an incoming wave – on a soft top/foamie. He’s a good waterman and spends all day down the beach. Loves it. As does his whole family.
Kelly Slater caught wind of the action and scrambled down with his softie within minutes…then along came Sunny Garcia…then Tim Reyes…for hours these big names in surf returned to their youth and were stoked messing around on a sandbar whirlpool. 4 per wave, mid wave swaps, backwash airs…good times…
The Volcom Pipe Pro is on right now. Its big and clean…oh and Slater is about to surf. Watch Live
People ask me all the time what’s so good about Hawaii. In a nutshell it is just one big aquatic playground. Na, not just for surfing…but anything to do with the ocean. The water temp. and land temp. are very similar so you can spend most of your day swimming, snorkelling, surfing, windsurfing or just lazing in the shallows of a sandbar. Everyone is into it – beach first, work second. A good aloha way to live…
