Morning Pump

Oh boy that East swell sure was kicking early today. Some really chunky stuff. Shame the wind came in and ruined all the fun. If you were up early today you would have scored. By the looks of the deserted streets I think most of you took today off and slept in. Enjoy your 4-day weekend.
Happy ‘Stralya Day for tomorrow! Aquabumps Gallery is open today and tomorrow’s public holiday…hard working mob aren’t we? 10am to 6pm.

Sky full of grey

It was rather grey this morning. Grey and still. Still before the southerly just hit. It’s only 9 knots, making it a little on the junkie side now – still surfable though.
The good news is that this weekend looks like FUN for surfers. East swell and funky winds. Go driving and yee shall score. Yeeha.
That’s about it! Come see us in the gallery 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW Telephone 02 9130 7788

Soft Box

Cloudy/humid morning. That’s OK. I like shooting in the even light. Sumpin’ different. Kinda like shooting with a soft box.
Waves. Na nuttin’ really worth writing about. Great day for beginners or if you own a mal.
Swim. Yes please. 29 degrees and fine for the rest of the day. Do it before a late cooling thunderstorm.
Free Ice-Cream. Yes please. 3 scoops. The all new QT Bondi hotel and Messina have create a new flavour of gelato called “2026“. The only way to score a hit is follow that Kombi around.
Forecast. Swell coming! Dang! NE swell.

Sizzle

I went to the beach 5 times yesterday. That is a lot for me.

1 x sunrise shoot
1 x surf
1 x lunchtime shoot and dawdle
1 x swim with the kids
1 x sunset shoot just for kicks

5. Why? ‘Cause it’s bloody deluxe down there at the moment. The water could not be warmer, clearer or more inviting.
There is not many places on this globe that you can hit the beach 5 times and still work a 10 hour day and have 4 meetings. People bag the hell out of Bondi…not me. It’s a pretty darn good lifestyle if you wanna mix beach with work. Yeah I know, it’s not The Super Bank out front, but it’s surfable 95% of the time.
Ok, I figure if you’re reading Aquabumps you don’t mind Bondi anyway…preaching to the converted!
Do you know FAT BOY SLIM is coming to town? Flanked buy some of the biggest names in the biz. You likey? Well head on down to the Electric Gardens Festival on Australia Day Weekend Saturday, 23rd January 2016 (only 3 days away!) buy tix here now.
Have a fantastic day. Set aside some time for you and a swim. You deserve it.

Toot Toot

Aaahhhh yes….these are the mornings. The mornings where it’s beautifully warm both in and out of the water. There’s a little pulse of swell and a right hander worthy of a surf. It’s just a fantastic time of year, agree?
You should really pop down for a swim.

Cubicles

I’m guessing most of you are probably back at work today, staring at the cubicle wall, dreaming of your recent holidays. The mind is a little foggy but the tan is deluxe – you look great! So you probably don’t wanna hear this – but it’s a cracker beach day. The water was off-the-charts-warm. Like a bath. So good. Waves too, but they seemed inconsistent…so be patient and follow the tides.
The next couple of days will be worthy of a beach visit.

Country Coast

I spent this week out of town indulging in the fruits of the NSW coastline. It was a magical beach week. Many people are still on holidays baking in the sun. I couldn’t have scripted it better with fun waves every day and not a cloud to be seen, until today.
I took time out from computers, phones and social media – remember when we were less distracted? and yes…I am still alive!
Well…I’m back now and plugged in…the Bondi show will resume Monday. Here’s a couple of snippets from my week.
Aquabumps is currently looking for a production assistant…you know…someone who is organised, positive, smart and wants to get their hands dirty in our own internal photo lab. Read full job description here…and if you likey what you read…apply by emailing Tyson the big cheese.

Hello.

I’ve been trying to shoot photos all week. The constant rain has made that very complicated! Today, around 8:30am, I thought I had a window to continue my morning rituals. Excited, batteries charged and cards emptied…I raced down to South Bondi to meet my nemesis. Yet another downpour! Drenched I retreated to the comforts of my Bondi shack…waiting for a reprieve.
We are all over it. 4 days of rain, rain and more rain. I am happy to report that it’s clearing today and the good (summery) times will continue this weekend – toot toot! So if you’ve camping on a point break in a leaking tent, on the tinnies from 9am…hang in there…it will come good.
I shot these photos last week. They are to remind you we’re in summer.

New Year’s Day Hi Res

Hello 2016 you good thing. Welcome to a brand new year of Aquabumps. Our 17th year of operation (and I am not THAT old – obviously).
The first shoot I took on for the year was hovering 1,000 feet above Bondi and Coogee on New Year’s Day. It was an incredible beach day and the sand was close to maximum capacity.
I’ve been shooting these aerials of beaches for nearly a decade now…so what’s new? Well I shot these images in high resolution – mainly on the new Canon 5DSR 50 megapixel DSLR. The definition is pretty awesome, especially in my gallery when they’re 1.7 metres wide.
If you were on the beach on NYD and want to find yourself, go to this page and use our zoom tools to trawl the beach (be patient as it could be slow with 50,000 people logging on zooming hi res files). Go crazy and hit ‘View full screen’ for a real trip.
Framed prints available of course – starting at $150 framed. Phone 02 9130 7788 for more info.
May 2016 be your best year yet. Happy New Year
