It’s going to be an interesting day weatherwise…
Started off cool and overcast, currently 28 degrees.
Then later today it will cook to 36 degrees. Thirty sixer.
Tonight a south change will rip through dropping the temps back to 22 for tomorrow. All over the place. Psycho weather. Good for a swim after work though.
Small waves today, 1 – 2 foot on a bank very close to shore. Bondi isn’t the go today, especially with a ENE swell missing the bay, try the Bra. Weekend looks small and lame. Sub 2 footers. Yawn. pass the crumpets.
Aquabumps Gallery Open
All weekend kids. 98 Brighton Boulevard, North Bondi. Come see some new stuff, some old stuff 10am to 4pm sat + sun
Yoga by the Sea
If boot camps and boxing at the beach aren’t your thing, how about sunrise yoga at the Bergs or Tamarama SLSC. Click here for the schedule with Sasha.
Creepy Julian at Mosman Surfection has some hot deals running. This week – fishes and short boards from $495. 522 Military Road Mosman. With all this small weak swell – not a bad idea to ride a piece of glass with some decent girth.
There was a tiny wave in the southern corner of Bondi this morning. It was breaking close to the beach and the rides were very weak and short. If you were patient enough you might have one break near your chest, but I wouldn’t think that was too often.
A blanket of thick clouds cover Sydney and drizzly rain continues. A nice 25 degrees is forecasted today, and these clouds should clear. Tomorrow is an amazing 36 degrees. Yes you read that right. 3-6. Just freaky how Sydney switches from cold to hot cold to hot.
The winds are from the north, NW early, NE 18-23 knots later today. The water remains a constant 19 degrees (if the North east winds blow it may drop)
Next decent wave will be Sunday afternoon or Monday. Not much until them folks. Later:uge
Today is not a surf day full stop.
Onshore mush, grey and rainy with no swell.
Sunday afternoon and Monday are looking like the next promising days. Until then perhaps watch the stock market spasms, de-wax boards ready for warmer water or watch the new taylor steele surf flick (stranger than fiction)
Today’s shots are from those islands….the Mentawais, at a mechanical left that is worth dreaming about in these dire surf conditions. Lets go back ::uge
Mighty fine morning down the beach today.
Spectacular cloud formations as we heat up to a perfect 28 degrees.
The firing swell from Friday to Sunday has evaporated and a tiny NE wind swell is evident at our beaches. Bondi was close to flat, best head down to The Bra or go for a swim after work.
Forecast is for similar conditions – 1 footers all week – boo – its going to be a working week – crank it. ::uge
Well that’s something we haven’t seen in a while – waves. Good ones. Bondi was a playful 3-4 foot this morning and the rain has even stopped. Good time to go for a paddle seeing it’s blowing offshore and the crowds are low. In fact all weekend should be pretty decent so I would head out of town.
The big Art Sydney ‘08 show is on all weekend at the Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park (Fox) – More info

You can’t miss the Aquabumps Gallery stand – it’s the probably the largest there. The Aquabumps Gallery Bondi is still open all weekend 10am to 4pm, sat+sun, 98 Brighton Boulevard should Fox Studios be too far for the bubble people.
Have a great weekend, ::uge
After two days of persistent rain, it’s stopped. Alleluia. The onshore winds have also backed off and the ocean is starting to clean itself up. Bondi was still a very messy 4-5 foot, 3 guys out. I would say wait a day or so, and it should improve (but be smaller).
Cold day again today, max 18…fining up for a sunny day tomorrow.
Art Sydney starts tonight and finishes on Sunday. Aquabumps Gallery is one of the 80 galleries exhibiting. Its being held at the Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park (Fox). Aquabumps readers can view this Art Show for free tomorrow – just print this out, fill it in and rock up. (This is for tomorrow only, Friday – not the weekend). So if tomorrow is a slack day in the office, dart off and come see this huge art show. More info
It’s been a while since the surf has been pumping. This time of year just doesn’t seem to crank.
Today’s surf check was disappointing but predictable – hell onshore, super mushy, pouring rain – the sort of rain that is horizontal and no one around. Its winter.
The swell did kick up…to 3-4 foot…but the board will probably blow out of your hands before hitting the water.
Wait until the wind backs off and you may find yourself some waves…probably Friday. Until then, a photos from this year’s Mentawai trip can keep you going in between sets.
The sloppy foam balls got bigger overnight, from 1 foot to 2 foot. You’d have to be pretty keen to get out there on such an ugly morning.
A wintery day with onshore SE winds, grey skies and a maximum temperature of 18. Expect some rain and a increase in swell tonight. Tomorrow should be 3 foot + but this onshore wind pattern needs to stop. Its a mess.
So what’s with the chicks in Minis carrying large letters on the beach this morning? It’s all in the name of Art baby. Art Sydney 08 kicks off this Thursday 23 – 26 October 2008 at the Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park. 80 galleries come together for an extensive art fair – come. Buy tickets online…The Aquabumps Gallery will be showing.
Yesterday was a much better day than today.
At least there were a few waves, the sun was shining and the perfect offshores created the ultimate beach weather.
A south change rocked in last night bringing clouds, onshore winds and turning the waves into mush. 1ft dribbly mush.
Yesterday was a big day down at Bondi for two reasons, the inaugural Sculpture by the Sea has begun and the Annual Chloe Byron Memorial surfing comp. Chloe was a victim of the Bali bombings. She was the daughter of well known Bondi local Dave Byron (The guy in the red speedos and red mal who is always getting the set waves). Hundreds paddled out making a ring of remembrance for Chloe whose been sadly missed and features on the graffiti wall along the broadwalk.
Yesterday Bondi was packed. One of the biggest days of this year so far…cars with big mufflers everyone, barely a scrap of sand spare.
Forecast: Wind waves coming up tomorrow afternoon. Expect 4-5 foot but not so sure about quality. ::Uge
Oh my, what a day. Escape the financial mess…hit the beach. Who needs shares anyway.
At sunrise there was only one guy out at Bondi, local shaper and all-round nice guy Andrew Harris (AH Surfboards). Everyone had slept in as a stealth little bump broke in the corner defying the swell charts.
AH picked off wave after wave before the crowds caught on. Sets around 2 foot…the odd 2.5 footer, super clean and fun. Probably the best it’s been all week and what a surprise since it was meant to be near flat. I don’t think many other places would be surfable today.
Salubrious weather at 24 degrees and the water finally came up a few digits. Wind: NW 5/10 kts, turning NE 10/15 kts in the afternoon. I wouldn’t expect this stealth bump to hang around for tomorrow as its easing once again tonight. (really)
Mosman surfection is still putting on some mega deals, buy one springie get one free type stuff. Worth checking out 522 Military Road Mosman. The Aquabumps gallery is open all weekend as usual 10am to 4pm, 98 Brighton Boulevard North Bondi…
There is a little bump pushing into the corner of south Bondeye. Heard it’s the only wave in the eastern suburbs today. Its small, 2 foot max and lacking substantial push, nevertheless its rideable and a nice morning to be paddling around in the sunshine.
There are no decent swells due for at least 7 days. What a bad month for surfing so far…
Art Sydney will take place from 23 – 26 October. Aquabumps will be exhibiting on a super-sized stand (twice the size of my current gallery). Come and check it out with 84 other galleries exhibiting. Tickets are still cheaper if you purchase them in advance online…www.artsydney08.com.au
Messy ocean with 15 – 20 knots of SE which should be easing into the afternoon. The waves are weak chunks of wind-chop, semi-surfable at 2-3 foot with a small crew out optimistically searching for a decent push. Bit of a disappointment really, thought it would be better and less wind.
The rest of the week looks dire, not like the other areas of Australia which have been pumping. Victoria has had a great run, and so have Margies, WA. Also Shipsterns was working on Saturday (10ft+)…
It’s that time of year where strange things pop up along the Bondi to Bronte walk. We’re talking giant fried eggs at Tama, enormous mechanical ants attacking a old car, penguins scatter the rocks, totem poles and this year a bubble anchored off the Bergs. Yep, its Sculpture by the Sea and thousands of people are heading our way. 16 Oct to 2 Nov (its earlier this year because of Day light savings) website
Bit of a non-event down the beach this morning (wave-wise). 1 foot chop broke close to shore, yep, there were still a few people out scrappin’ for the-chop-of the-day. Interesting cloud formations at sunrise before a thick blanket of south change brought rain, wind and cooler temperatures. South winds will howl 20/30 knots later today so I hope you brought the washing in. That blow will bring some windswell for tomorrow as Bondi will be back in the 3-4 foot bracket.
Moral of the story – tomorrow we may have a sloppy wave peeps. Later, uge
This time of year the northerly winds start to kick up, the water gets that bone rattling icy current and the decent swells become infrequent.
After the joy of last week we’ve got very little to talk about today. Predominantly flat morning with weird 2 foot sets every 15 minutes.
Paddle-boarders dominated the line up as the sun soaked the early morning exercise fanatics. We’re looking at 26 degrees today, well for a while, as a south change is due switching back to winter like conditions tomorrow (20).
Enjoy the great weather whilst it’s here.
Good waves this morning, and everyone seems to know it. I think Bondi is the only beach breaking in the east attracting a large early morning crowd. The swell is dead south at 9.6 seconds with NNW winds. Text book optimal Bondi conditions. Unfortunately this swell will continue to decline throughout the day from 3 foot at 7:30am to 1-2 foot by night fall.
The prospects for a wave over the weekend are looking dismal. I’d be surprised to see anything over 1-2 foot. Looks like some weather will blow in this afternoon and should fine up for Sunday (25).
Make the trip over the bridge to Surfection Mosman and you’ll score a deal this weekend. Some of his whacky deals are: buy a springy (worth $139) get one free (selected styles) – can’t go wrong there –big name Mals worth $1250 are now $695. Short boards were $760 now $650. Think you get the drift 522 Military Road Mosman T:9969 1011
Its open every weekend, all weekend, just a reminder 10am to 4pm you can come see some of our best images blown up large. Some good waves out at Bondi earlier today. Crowded 3-4 foot. Not much wall though…take off out the back, dodge 40 surfers, then dodge a couple more, race…get all excited about a nice whack, then unfortunately it has faded into a burger. Some of the smaller ones were worth looking into to.
This swell will be peaking right now and is probably the best part of the week. Tomorrow it will drop a foot in preparation for the weekend of 1 footers. (boo)
Winds are currently Westerly and will swing North East later today. (10/15 knots)
High tide 5am, Low tide 10:15am. Beautiful day with 21, I’d say get outside. I had a hard time shooting these pics today, lots of water moving at Bondi. Kept on being swept out of position ::uge
A pulse of long period, southerly swell entertained the masses this morning. The left was working consistently, the right fattening out. Looked quite good really… and I’d say the next few days should be decent. Swell will pick up this afternoon as the period hits 15 seconds overnight. 15 seconds is Indo style…so it’s a ground swell and probably travelled a long way to get here.
Colder day today with a minimum of 11 and maximum of 20. This morning’s SW winds will swing S/SE 10/15 knots later today (so now is probably best for a wave with the incoming tide). Low tide 9am, high tide 3:40pm. Water is getting better – 18 degrees.
Mike Stewart is the king of Body board land. The man has spent his life in the back of the cave and now he’s launching a film – ‘Fire’. Mike’s life’s work is now on the big screen….so you can view what this madman see’s every day as he pilots huge cabins with camera in hand. Premiere’s start in Sydney from October 10, click here for tickets and times.
After that violent south change last night we’ve got some fun ones this morning. Bondi had 3 footers, but a bit wobbly since its a brand new swell, but it should settle.
The massive crowds of last week have disappeared as the weather is much cooler. The regulars out enjoying the consistent peaks in the south end.
All week there will be waves with a special ground swell hitting Thursday (6 foot +). Work hard and reap the benefits of later.
He’s just making it look to easy. Yes, Kelly Slater has won 9 world surfing titles after advancing out of round 3 in Spain, Mundaka on the weekend. The 36 year old was thinking of not completing the full tour this year… but after winning the 1st two events he thought what the heck.
Gonna be a stinkin’ hot day – fat and salubrious thirty-five. Doesn’t get any better than this. Sensational morning down the beach, don’t be fooled by this hot weather- the water is still a chilly 16 degrees. Tomorrow is much cooler day (25) after a dramatic south change later – soak it up, wag work.
Two words to describe the waves – Small + crowded. 1-2 foot in the south end on a decent bank. Swell is now coming from the NE and tomorrow is going to be smaller. Pack the mals’n’ fishes if you’re heading out of town for the weekend, it’s going to be tiny.
Australia’s biggest yoga class was held down at Bondi this morning. 800 people turned up. Summer health kick is now in overdrive.
Have a great long weekend. The Aquabumps Gallery is open 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday (Not Monday). If you’re heading to the beach, go north walk up the stairs from the beach and bingo. ::uge
Sun drenched morning with a the odd 3 footer at South Bondi. At 5am the crowds were already onto it and a small bank in the corner provided a few fun ones. Water seems very cold, like 15, but the land today is going to be a crackin’ 30 degrees. By midday today the waves should drop back to 1-2 foot of dribble and I can’t see much happening until after the long weekend.
Wind: N/NW 8/13 kts, increasing to 20/25 kts during the afternoon and turning N/NE.
33 degrees tomorrow. Flag work. Hit the beach. Later:: uge
The combination of…
a) A recent 2 week flat spell
b) Plenty of early morning light
c) Sunny and warmer water
d) Small 2-3 footers (no clean up sets)
…brings anarchy to Bondi. Massive early morning crowds. Boards flying everywhere. 4 surfers per wave. Flared tempers and a whole lot of paddling in circles.
We have waves today. Not big, but decent. They’re not going to hang around for long. I would say by lunchtime tomorrow it will be all gone. The long weekend surf forecast is pretty tiny. Enjoy this glorious weather. ::uge
