Was nice to have some morning light in the frames this morning. Hasn’t been much of it around lately.
As per the forecast the swell has come up from the East but it’s junkie as hell. A few 4 footers, wobbly and choppy, yet surfable.
For the next 5-6 days there is plenty of swell. Unfortunately the winds won’t be favourable until Monday. Looks like a fair bit of rain over the weekend. Rug up.
The Aquabumps Gallery is open all weekend 10am to 6pm. New works have been up for 1 month, so if you haven’t dropped by do so. 151 Curlewis Street Bondi.

A very typical Sydney storm is in town. Strong South wind, sloppy south swell and random junkyard out at Bondi. If you want to surf uncrowded Bondi, it’s all yours. 3-4 footers, hard to pick the right ones, but there’s gold in dem hills (for overly enthusiastic an unemployed surfers). For the rest of us, good day to crank the work out, or come buy your Mother a nice little frame from the Aquabumps Gallery 9130 7788 (yep, mother’s day on Sunday 8th May).
Over and out :: Eugene
We’ve got a sloppy south swell and south wind down at Bondi this morning. The weekend’s clouds are still here and the rain is on and off. Quite a wintery picture down here with only 2, maybe the odd 3 footer. Quality is very poor as squalls roll through, yet the line-up is basically empty. Either you are all still on holidays, or tucked up in bed.
Young Perth Standlick, who’s just returned from Scotland’s 7 degree water (Thurso), was out hunting sections for the his trademark punts.
So you’ve probably heard 30 year old Coolie kid Joel Parkinson won tour stop No.2 Bells. Man he was ripping out there in big chunky Bells. Sally Fitzgibbons also won her debut event for the girls. Oh and Rip Curl announced their plans to have their nomadic “the Search” ASP world tour event at San Francisco, Ocean Beach, Nov 1 to 11 2011. Interesting choice. I hear (never surfed) it’s a quite a fickle break. So that’s 2 tour stops at big US cities (NYC’s long island and now the Golden Gate bridge) both locations not famous for smoking consistency. Pray for swell.
Have a great week, :: uge
This morning I wasn’t expecting much. The swell websites all talked 1’s and 2’s…period was down and last night’s check showed little promise. Well, something arrived, mostly closing out but definitely 3 foot sets. The odd left opened up to the beach in the southern corner of Bondi. The odd right in the middle – better on a higher tide (11:50am). Nice golden light, great time of year huh.
So it’s Easter tomorrow, the Aquabumps Gallery is shut for a few days, and you’re hittin’ the road in search of uncrowded perfect waves. Well pack a fat/big board, ‘cause me thinks it’s going be small throughout the break. Gravitate to the south facing swell magnets and you’ll have a bit of fun. Good weather tomorrow, possible showers for the rest.
Bondi Farmers Market
We all know how hard it is to get fresh produce around here…well, from April 30 the Bondi Farmers Market will operate every Saturday at the Bondi Beach Public School. So you can now buy direct from the growers…www.bondimarkets.com.au/farmers
Nice sky of colour to kick today off. Bondi was a hive of activity at 6:30am. Plenty doing their regular thing. Optimistic crew fighting over leftovers in the surf. Only 1-2 footers on offer today, so no need to rush down. If anything, go for a swim…as it’s just that good. (25)
Can you swim 60 laps of Bondi?
Lucky the water is warm at the moment for Chloe McCardel. Who she? She’s a girl who is planning on swimming 60 laps across Bondi Beach on 24th April 2011. (total distance 48k). No, that is not a typo….forty eight kilometres. The current record for swimming laps of Bondi is 50 held equally by Des Renford, Cyril Baldock and Tammy van Wisse.
The Aquabumps Gallery Easter Closure
By now you all know we have a gallery. Well, I hope so. It’s in Bondi and is big with all our best images hanging on the walls. We’ve had a gallery for 6 years now…time flies huh. Anyhow, it’s closed for Easter. That’s Fridee,Sat’dee, Sundee all the way thru to Tuesday CLOSED – reopening on Wednesday. So if you want anything, come today or tomorrow 10am to 6pm. You’ll find us at 151 Curlewis Street, Bondi Beach telephone 02 9130 7788. Still lost?
Au revoir : uge
I know I’ve said it a fair bit lately, but I’ll say it again – real special morning out there. The waves are clean and in the 2-3 foot range. The sun is out, not a cloud in the sky. The water was bath temp. warm. Can do just boardies and maybe a little vest. There’s also a neat left and right working…Bondi likes this size swell. Go for a paddle…
For the people that like specifics : low tide 4am, high tide 10am, low again at 3:50pm. WNW winds currently at 10 knots – NE later. Swell direction : SE Weather, sunny and 24
Got some great shots of the golden sunset last night. Check this

PS – I know we haven’t done an update in a few days…sorry – we’re back on now. It’s me, not you. Had a baby. A boy in fact (no name yet). It’s gonna be a few years until he can carry the camera bags around but I’m sure you’ll meet him soon. He’s healthy and full of beans…mum will be soft sanding next week.
That spike in swell arrived but didn’t really hang around. Bondi had a large crowd out at sunrise enjoying 2-3 footers, warm water and perfect sunshine. I headed down to Cronulla (Greenhills to be exact) to hook up with Matty Griggs (ex-coach to world champs like Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore) and his super grom training school. Taylor Knox, an ASP tour veteran, who just arrived into Sydney for Bells paddled out as well to wash the travel scum off. Fun waves, bit small now…smaller tomorrow. Perfect for the little tigers weighing in less than 30 k-gees. Most of them 12 years old and ripping already. Matty Griggs is a high performance surf coach for the rising talent in Australia. He also teaches Kelee meditation. Look him up
Have a nice afternoon :: uge
The winter’s dial clicked over another notch this morning – did you feel that extra chill in the air earlier today? The water, however, continued its spa-like temperatures (23) – how could you not go in?
Interesting day today. Weak 1 footers right now….but around 4pm a south ground swell arrives and the swell period rockets from 7 to 15 seconds. Best keep an eye on it just in case it arrives early.
The forecast looks good for the next couple of days…small, yet fun and surfable waves. R E A L B I G on the weekend (like 8 foot). Plenty of sunshine. Enjoy.
> u g e <
That was a real nice weekend. I was impressed to see waves on Saturday at Bondi…fun ones (nothing on Sunday). The water has been SO clear and warm lately. Perfect weather. Can’t get much better than that.
Today Bondi had the odd 2 foot freak set, but mostly 1 footers dribbled into the corner (with no push). You’ll need a real long board, SUP or just your goggles for a lap of the bay.
This week should pan out like this…tomorrow 4pm a new south swell will arrive (3ftrs). Wednesday the swell will still be here and the sunshine will dominate. Smaller on Thursday, but still perfectly sunny 24.
The Summary :: Surf on Tuesday/Wed…lay on beach wed/thurs with the good weather…work on Friday afternoon (for 3 hrs) when the showers arrive (yeah right I hear you say…sounds good though)
Good bye, :: uge
Good morning. Nice morning wasn’t it? A few (small) waves around early on a left rip bowl at Bondi. Quite hard to surf (and shoot from the water) as a deep hole between two banks provided an outlet for all the water in the bay. Damn need an anchor out there. Water is RIDICULOUSLY warm though. I’m talking, has to be, something around 24. Very unseasonal. So much warmer in that out.
You will not be surfing at all this weekend (no, this is not your other half speaking). If you’re a beginner, there may be a dribblish 0.5 to 1 ft. The swell charts have a lot of zero’s in the heights column. Maybe a) watch the Margaret River Drug Aware Pro online. The event is on now and it’s big (yes Slater is there)… b) come check out the new artworks at our Bondi Gallery – 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026 (still lost?). We’ve even introduced some new cool framing…unique to our gallery.
Otherwise, kick back and watch a whole season of Mad Men. Any other ideas? (comment below)
Have fun, uge
Well it hasn’t been the best week of surf. Can’t be good all the time I guess and we’ve had our fair share recently. Today we’ve got 2-3 footers, onshore, junkie – but hey, the sun is out! Few left rip bowls on offer…grab em whilst there here…cause the forecast for the next few days looks dire. I’m torkin’ pancakes kids. Maybe go board shopping. Do you know Benny has opened up Six Ounce Boardstore in Manly? Yep…48-50 Pittwater Road, Manly call em 9977 5569
Here is a sneak peak of our new show in the gallery.
Bye for today :: uge
It’s pretty fickle out there. On/off. Wet/sunny. Cold/hot. Not really sure what to make of it. At 7am the surf looked average with some crumbly 2-3 foots hittin’ Bondi. Around 9am it looked a lot cleaner and lining up better. About 10 x better. Who knows what it will look like by lunchtime when the tide is higher and the breeze kicks more around to the east, which is not good. If I wasn’t typing this report up right now I’d be out there…
We have a new exhibition up in the Bondi gallery. Just put it up yesterday. My wifie reckons it looks ‘best ever’. What is it? well a mixed of sorts, new images taken over this summer, some chopper, some shifty nifties and some top of the wozza sunrises. Roll in and ava a look. Oh, and we have some new framing…it ROCKS. I’ll throw a video up on facebook later, maybe LIKE us and you’ll be in the loop.
Later :: uge
I saw a dude paddle out at south Bondi, shortly to return to the beach dissatisfied with the whole ordeal. I then saw another lone wolf drift out in the middle of Bondi, copped a rinsing, then returned to the beach, off to work. Further north at Mirra Kirra (aka North Bondi), I saw 3 frothers in boardies pick off a few waves…which…was surprisingly surfable. Still only rating 2/10 as it’s onshore, wet’n’grey 4-5 foot out there. Nicer in here.
Have a good day :: uge
There’s some nice deep holes in them sand banks at Bondi. Sets break on the outer banks then crumble to the beach before reforming into a nice little left rip bowl. It was short and only 2-3 foot, but the best option this morning.
It’s gonna get bigger as the day progresses, like 5-6 foot big. The southerly, which was toying with us this morning, has now set it and will gain power as well. Surf? Well, onshore chunks later today will keep you entertained and the crowds will be light on, especially since the clocks have switched back and the after work crowd has now shifted to the before work crowd.
Hurro. Today is April fools. A day where I normally write it’s pumping, 3-4 foot when it’s not – yeah real tricky eh. Well it actually is…pumping (kinda)… Some decent waves rolling through this morning in the 3-4 foot range. Sure, it’s a little wonky as the onshore wind blew for 24 hours previously, but it’s looking very inviting. The sun has also come to the party and the rain has stopped.
Waves will be smaller yet surfable all weekend (2-3 footers). Windy tomorrow, sunny on Sunday. Come into the Aquabumps Gallery if you are around Bondi (151 Curlewis Street next to the T.A.B – still lost?) We’re open 10am to 6pm all weekend.
I’ve put more images up on Facebook if keen.
1 more thing, some dudes have a lot of spare time. These guys have plenty…local boiz getting jiggy with their frisbees…hilarious.
P.S. Check the ad on the noticeboard below. Some guy is trying to sell Nunchakus so he can buy some of our art. Funny.
