Bitchin

I’ve made my annual pilgrimage to the Mecca of surfing, Hawaii’s North Shore. I like it here. I hope you do too as the next few weeks of Aquabumps is going to be broadcasted from the rogue shores of this volcanic fiery island. Upon arrival the surf has been pumping, of course. Not much going […]

The Boardriders

I can remember back in 2005 when a local Bondi Lifeguard rocked up to my gallery and bounced an idea off me. He wanted to create a TV series on Bondi based around the lifeguards. “Yeah…that may work…will people really wanna see what’s happening in Bondi?” I said to Benny. Well 9 fruitful years of […]

Surfers in the mist

The day began with a thick sea fog smothering the beaches. Real humid morning. Plenty of moisture. Very typical of this time of year. Small waves. 1-2 footers at Bondi, 2-3 footers at Maroubra. A huge swell has arrived in Hawaii. I just got a swell alert email saying 42-50ft. Gotta love that place…I hope […]

180

This morning did a complete 180. At 6am you could hear the pitter-pattering of rain on our roof. I hit the snooze button a few times before rolling down to the beach. Upon arrival the clouds parted and it transformed into a nice day. Small waves as well, mainly the 2 foot variety. Bondi is […]

Burst

For only a few minutes we had strong, golden, contrasty light. It looked amazing. Then the black clouds came over and smothered the beach with darkness. It was like something out of a Armageddon movie. There are waves but it’s not fantastic. 2-3 footers slapping close to shore with a full morning tide. ::uge

Antithesis

After a string of glorious hot beach days we now have the complete opposite. She’s all cooled down now. The fat high pressure system providing hot conditions has blown out to sea revealing a much cooler low that is now sitting over us. Winds are onshore and the surf is a mess. Yesterdays massive crowd […]

Pro Jnrs

Good morning. If you are under 20 years old and take your surfing seriously you’d be at Maroubra this morning for the kick-off of the Carve Pro Junior and Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage. It will run until Sunday and thankfully today they’ve scored a bit of swell (3ft). Dozens of hyperactive, 30 kg groms […]

Clarity

There was something special about yesterday. The air was clear, the colours popped and the water was incredible. I shot lots. Here is the fruits of a mid-week roam in our ‘hood peak summer. Oh yeah…there is a little 1-2 foot wave on today from the NE…but it ain’t that flash. I elected to swim. […]

North Swell

There’s an unwritten rule…when a north swell is in town…GO NORTH SIDE! I disobeyed the rule and stuck around Bondi + Tama and found no wave goodness. So there I was in the shallows at Bondi and Tama…skulking…foaming…knowing that NE exposed breaks will be really enjoyable today. e.g. Whaley, Bra, Manly. The redeeming factor was […]

Hereward

Finally after a long spell of very small waves we have something to ride! Yes, waves. Bondi is 3 foot, Maroubra was a bit cleaner and I saw some bigger sets. Interesting stuff: The Bondi Board Riders won the teams event and 2nd in the overall for the Australian Board Riders Battle on the weekend. […]

Mondayitis

Welcome back to many who have returned from holidays. Not a bad week to return to work seeing rain is forecasted for many days of this week. I was down the beach this morning feeling very uninspired. 1-2 footers, rain, onshore easterlies….boo. Definitely not a beach day. Luckily I shot quite a bit on the […]

Beach Time

What a great week to hit the beach… It’s been perfect – hasn’t it? Sydney really turns it on at this time of year. To finish this week we finally have some wind swell about. All that wind yesterday stirred up a weak NE swell. 3ft at the Bra, 1-2ft at Bondi. Could be a […]

Bits

Little baby 1-2 footers are breaking at Bondi right now. It’s an immaculate summer’s beach day…stick the out-of-office on and get down there. Water is 21 degrees. I’ve had two swims before work…gonna try for 2 more today. :: uge

The Duke

How nice is this time of year? You can visit the beach twice a day and still have plenty of light up your sleeve. The beach is packed and everyone is smiling, enjoying the salubrious conditions. The surf is still tiny but something is brewing…a swell shall arrive this Sunday. Do you know who The […]

Lather

Well ‘ava a look at that…the morning cloud cover has burnt off and revealed a cracker beach day. It’s really, really nice down there. Barely a ripple to surf but the water temp is spot on. Bondi is full of tourists and the beach will be rammed, again, today. Party time! Get ya cosi on, […]
