These past few months the weather in Sydney has been immaculate. Day after day of glorious sunshine. A good year to build a house aye?
Today was quite sumpin’ down there a 6:30am. Truckloads of people, massive packs of surfers and everyone enjoying the good weather.
The waves are small, waist high – but every 30 minutes a head high set. Hope you’ve got a relatively free schedule and can get down here.

I like taking pictures. I reckon you’d gathered that by now. Taking pictures gets me up early, before most…and drags me down the beach. Some mornings are better than others down there. Today was one of the better ones.
I swam before sunrise with the camera in tow. It’s like dragging a bowling ball around with me. The water was silky smooth without a breath of wind. Real nice. Good little left in the middle. It just wasn’t very big (waist high). Superb morning to just be out there.
Later doozies :: uge
Got kinda big yesterday and has now calmed down. I like what I saw down there this morning. Smooth conditions, head high waves on rippy banks. Oh, it’s Monday crowds too – nice and lite. The best!
This week the swell will retreat leaving waist high waves on Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday it will return in force as a big swell approaches for the weekend. (double head high)
Wednesday is going to be a unreal beach day, 28 and sunny. Put that in the diaries and blow off work.
If you’re doing the Sculpture by the Sea walk today, come see our gallery in Bondi, 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach telephone 9130 7788

It was windy early today. The cooling southerly arrived overnight. It’s around 20 knots which means you’ll need to seek protected corners.
I went to the South Bra corner, which was ok. Blake was out there tearing it to shreds, but not many good ones came through. Limited options today, Manly could be good with this East swell/south wind combo but I haven’t been over that side in ages…
The wind will stew up some south swell for the weekend – so Bondi should come back in favour.
If you coming out to see Sculptures by the Sea this weekend – drop by our gallery (151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach – kinda right behind the big Bondi hotel).
If you were one of the lucky ones that got up early and made it down the beach this morning you’d be happy.
There were two distinctive peaks breaking…both with a waist to shoulder high wave. The heat was on early and it is going to hit 33 degrees today. No typo. 33. SMH reports it could be the hottest day of the year so far…with some areas of Sydney reaching 36.
Tools down doozies…hit the beach for sure.
Our buddies on Mentawai Charter boat Tengirri are taking bookings for next year. I’ve locked mine in. Best get onto it.
Today is officially unsurfable. 20 knots of southerly is making a mess, everywhere.
It’s only 20 degrees and reminiscent of winter dayz. The wind is going to back off by 50%…so maybe a late evening session perhaps?
Nice weather coming folks. 31 degrees forecasted for Thursday. Write that down.
Charlotte Connell lives right near me in Bondi. She’s raising awareness for Prostate Cancer in the month of Movember…see, her old boy has sported a fancy mo for 45 years…and sadly he’s now undergoing chemo, losing the mo and hopefully cancer along with it. You can donate to her cause here…

Well it started out quite nice this morning but since has turned ugly…
The winds are howling, the clouds are grey and it’s raining infrequently.
The temperatures have plummeted and in summary it’s a great day to do some work.
Plenty of chop out there…wait until it settles. Swell being stirred up as we speak.
Great day to view the Sculptures along the famous Bronte to Bondi walk. The weekend crowds make it hard work – but today is perfect.
Come see us in the gallery whilst you’re all feeling arty. We’re open today and we’re at 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW Telephone 9130 7788 10am to 6pm every day.
Ciao, :: uge
Just too good down there this morning. The light, the warmth and them little shoulder high waves at Maroubra. Hard to drag yourself away from it…
29 degrees now. The best.
Tomorrow looks amazing – hit the beach or come to the Aquabumps Gallery.
With crazy rides and giant slides, homemade cakes and homegrown preserves, Bondi Public School will throw open its gates to the local community on Sunday October 28 for the school’s biennial Halloween Fete. Where when how? Bondi Public School Halloween Fete Sunday October 28 10am to 4pm, 2012 – Wellington St Bondi.

The surf wasn’t that impressive this morning.
There’s been a swell increase but it’s junkie as hell.
The skies are filled with dark stripey clouds – which should break this afternoon.
Max 22 only today.
Northerlies will blow all afternoon – that should clean up the waves and hopefully create some options.
Busy time of year around here as the Sculpture by the Sea is setting up for another year.
Ciao ciao :: ugio
There was a little right hand wave in the middle of Bondi. Packed and a little dangerous but fun. The bank looks good.
Was a pleasure going for a dawn dip…water is clear and decent temp (rubber still required). Southerly is gonna blow 20 knots this arvo whipping up a bit of swell for the ‘morrow…
See you then! :: uge
Can you believe it is going to be 32 degrees today? How about them apples.
The northerlies are gonna blow too, 20 knots, so the water temperature will drop and the waves will dribble.
This morning I rolled down the beach and the car park was full by 6:00am. Every man and his log was out there trimming the 1-2 footers – chaos!
Great vibe down the beach, everybody in a good mood with the warm weather. Hope to see you down here.
Aquabumps has formed a team to surf in the SURFAID cup being held on Nov 2. SURFAID is a great charity that raises money for the poor peeps of Mentawai Islands. If you have surfed Mentawais or plan to soon, or maybe found a place to rent on my noticeboard, of just like our daily photos – I want you to sponsor our team. We’re trying to raise $15,000…and we’re up to $2,561.
There is some great new publications out there nowadays that I reckon you’ll all be into. White Horses and Paper Sea. Both indi titles, honest, arty and ocean inspired. Not sure who’s behind em but they’re good. Ok, sometimes they use eligible 4 pt type on their spreads but they’ve got some damn good fotos…

Wow, what a morning… I hope you got up early for it.
Today’s 8 images taken at sunrise depict a staple diet for us …a shot of the Icebergs (std), couple good surfing shots with waves overhead high (tick), a sunrise shot over Benny Buckler (No.356,767), a surfing lifestyle shot with Andrej paddling out in nice light (tick), a swimmercam (bonus) and some arty shot of someone’s shadow baked in golden hues…
Needless to say – today has it all and is to be enjoyed down the beach and not behind that cubicle desk!
Later :: uge (prounced yooj, as in Eugene, not so much UG, or OOGG but whatever works for you)
P.S. coming down the beach? Don’t forget we’re open Mondays…10-6 @ 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026 Telephone 9130 7788 – lost?
Today is an interesting one. All media channels are reporting the storm from hell…it’s coming…
But at 6:30am I witnessed beautifully groomed head high sets at Maroubra baked in morning light.
At 7:00am the westerly winds blew dark, sinister storm clouds over my head. It rained. It rained some more. Then they disappeared and as I write this – I see sun.
Then a couple of readers down south wrote to me saying it’s snowing down there… (tripping?)…around the Gerroa area. So I just popped outside, again, and it looks fine.
Sounds like the bad weather is around the fringes of Sydney – but I am sure she’ll hit…soon…and we’ll all know about it.
Go get a pile of vids and nestle in for the weekend. Or come to our gallery, 151 Curlewis Street Bondi…it’s warm and dry in here.

When I got up this morning it was raining. Not enough to give the car a good wash, just enough to keep my morning shoot confined to my vehicle.
So all of these images were taken from my front seat, lens propped up against the window.
With regards to the surf, these are the dayz. The rain scares off everyone and Bondi looks like a deserted country beach. It’s a bonus that there is a shoulder high peak crumbling in the southern corner. Admittedly the rain water run off looks a bit radioactive…maybe surf with your mouth closed. Hasn’t rained in a while, so all the grime has washed into our ocean.
If you want to see what this image looks like wrapped around Rachael Finch (Miss Universe Australia), then have a look at the Aquabumps/Speedo collab range that is in store right now.

Someone has kidnapped big unit Dion’s dog. Now that is not wise. If you’ve seen this dog around, which responds to Buckie, I’d return it quick smart. Dion is the biggest human in the world.
The sun now rises out to sea instead of hiding behind our most photographed Ben Buckler headland. This creates a nice clean angle for the sun to soak the back of our waves in Bondi – putting out golden hues. It’s great how the seasons have their own signature light. Today’s glarey pic set depict a typical summery setup down at Bondi.
Enough herbal rant.
We’ve got waves! Fat ones all porked up by an early morning high tide. It’s not big but fun – waist to chest high with bigger sets. Nice and clean down there as the winds have backed right off. Finally. East winds will blow later (no good). Nice day to boot (23).

Not much magic down the beach this morning. More seagulls than humans.
The wind is still here and making a mess of it. The forecast says that will slow down hopefully making for cleaner conditions by tonight.
The 3-4 footers will fade though…into tomorrow. Surf onshore mush now or 2 foot cleaner stuff tomorrow. What is better?
There is still some swell forecasted for Friday but a flanking southerly will be sure to spoil the fun.
Have a good day :: uge
The swell has been big these past couple of days…but not great.
No one surfing around here…it’s quite ugly 6 foot. The beaches have gone all quiet. Very different to Friday. Maybe it’s ‘cause all the school kiddies are back in class.
This rogue swell will taper off rapidly. The onshore winds will calm…hopefully bringing more surfable conditions later tomorrow. Wed looks small and then another swell will arrive Friday. A big one.
Don’t forget the Aquabumps Gallery is open on Mondays (today) – yep – we’re a keen lot. 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW Tel : 02-9130 7788

Today has it all.
This is what I saw…
I went down the beach early…5:20am…couldn’t sleep in with all this warm weather. I suffer from FOMO (Fear of missing out). The first thing to catch my eye was the rubbish. Tonnes of the stuff left on the beach yesterday. Disgust. I then strolled down to the water’s edge and saw a surfboard do an aerial without a surfer. Odd. Then I looked to my right and saw two hell man throwing boulders over their heads – really odd. Out to sea I could see 3 large whales meandering in the bay – cool. Got my water-housing and headed out for a swim. Nice. The water was freezing. Don’t be fooled by the 30 degree weather – she’s chilly. The water was also Fiji crystal clear – deluxe. Small waves chugged in on a shallow sand bank, mainly rights, waist high suckers…fun! I got out and the masses had already arrived. I reckon 3,000 people down there at 6:30am. WOW.
Today will be very different to tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be cold (and wet). So I guess hit the beach, NOW.
Ciao :: uge
Think we might have a few more people following us today after this…welcome newbies. Welcome.
I’ve said this many times recently, but today is a cracker and you shouldn’t be behind the desk.
The sun will cook to 30 degrees – hit the beach. The rip bowl rights were fun and around chest high as a long period south swell hit town last night. Enjoy.
Australian filmmaker Nathan Oldfield always put out quality. Watch the short to his new film The Heart & The Sea and you will wanna go surfing.
Catch ya tomorrow :: uge
Last night I surfed waves. Swear. Some waves were even close to head high (admittedly I am not a tall man)
This morning, nada. All gone. Kaput. Goneski. All that was left was the hungry pack fighting over 1-1.5 footers. And I mean fighting for scraps. Literally.
Right now it’s 24 degrees. It will hit a salubrious 26 before the day ends. So good.
Waves – small for the next day or so, but something bigger arriving on Sunday.
Ends :: u g e
PS – check out orgnltv for original people. Even Bondi Photogs make it on there.
I think a rainy grey cloud followed me around all morning. Sunshine persevered everywhere I wasn’t.
Bondi has returned to the quiet country town after a full on long weekend. The shops are empty…the cafe baristas are staring aimlessly out the window and a few showers scared most beach goers off this morning. Bondi has some chunky 4-5 footers…right out the back, and you can have them all to yourself.
Hope you had a good long weekend. A perfect one to getaway with waves and sunshine.
PS – lots of people asked me about my recent Port Macquarie trip, here is some info
