Ah yes…crisp Autumn air, clear skies and a bakin’ sunrise over Ben Buckler. Not bad for a Monday morning. Shame about the waves/ripples. Beggin’ to break above your knee caps at the moment. The waves today are best suited to a 12 foot plank, 1 foot toddler/midget or if it’s your 1st day that you’ve ever seen the ocean. Today is the first of a 4 day flat spell so settle right on in and crank some work out for a change.
*Stiffie?
Since its flat you may consider working on your flexibility. Pilates at Tamarama with Elise Goodwin 0414 333 571 [email protected] or yoga at the Dharma Sharla next to the a-bumper gallery on Brighton Boulevard, North Bondi. Classes are full of super-models (did I say that out loud?). God bless spandex (on women).
*fire
Big fire this morning at Swadlings Timber and Hardware warehouse (Rosebery) – casting a puff of smoke over Sydney. Could smell it down at Bondi…

Swell is up kids, but she’s bumpy as hell. Bondi has squeezed the most out of this small south-east swell  (chest to head high sets at 7am today) but mostly closing out of just random froth. Tomorrow morning should be cleaner with Westerlies predicted but will be a tad smaller. Nothing that great to report over the next few days, in fact its been a while since anything over 2-3 foot. Pray for swell.
Greatest surfer of all timeKelly Slater, 8 time ASP world champion has won the Rip Curl Pro at Bells yesterday. Unbelievable. I mean 36 year old Slater launches a huge air in the final minute to beat Bede Durbidge who lead the way throughout the final. So now that’s 2 wins from 2 ASP tour events. Can this year be 9 world titles?
Aquabumps Gallery Open all weekend you know it, 98 Brighton Boulevard North Bondi NSW Telephone 9130 8371. Saturday + Sundee 10am to 4pm. Just tucked in behind the North Bondi RSL.
Surfection Mosman Wettie Salethat weirdo Julian is giving away a $140 springsuit free with every ’08 steamer purchased. Pretty hot deal. I’ve always thought he was a can short of a six-pack. 522 Military Road Mosman t: 9969 1011

We got the first tap on the shoulder from winter today…brrr…that chill in the morning air is starting to hold back the before work crowds. The days are getting much shorter, it was pretty dark until 7am. Bondi is reaping the benefits of being a south facing swell magnet this morning as set waves got up to head high, quite infrequent but its surfable and super clean with calm conditions. Only 22 forecasted on land today, SW winds swinging S/SE later today. Should find some waves tomorrow and Saturday with this new south swell.
Rip Curl Pro Bells – Could Finish Today

After last night’s stormy conditions it has resurrected itself into a sensational day with a maximum of 26 degrees. No waves to write about – well knee to waist high mostly. And nothing much happening tomorrow either, but Friday should see a new south swell and Saturday should be a bit of fun. Better off watching the Rip Curl Pro down at Bells (well actually Winki now) more

knee-capperYesterdays little bump has dissipated and waves are now struggling to hit the knee caps. Still a few people out there optimistically searching the horizon for anything that resembles moving water. Such spectacular light’n’sunrise this morning – the view to Ben Buckler changed about 5 times before 7:30am.
wet eggs Tomorrow doesn’t look any better wavewise, nor Friday. Can you believe after this freakin’good-weather-marathon we get rain for our Easter break. Cool change hits Friday lunchtime, bringing rain, wind and hopefully a small swell for Sat/Sunday. Looks like the winds will be destructive until Sunday. Pack that extra case of largers on your trip out of town.
gallery shutwe’re closing the Aquabumps Gallery for Easter. There is no-one in town anyway. Friday to Monday – CLOSED
Bells waiting period has started and they’re expecting swell this weekend – today is a lay-day though. more

burnt orangeThis micro ENE swell is neglecting beaches like Bondi which are currently 1 foot. At exposed beaches (La Bra) you’d find 2 feet…but the 6:45am high tide was putting some chub into these struggling conditions – towards the lower tide you may have some more options. Great conditions with a baking summers day and light winds. Deluxe maximum of 27 degrees predicted today. Get outside and enjoy it. Tomorrow looks smaller and not surfable.
mark III + 9 Today is a big day for Aquabumps for two reasons:
a) we’ve just clocked another year and Aquabumps has turned 9…no party this year kids, wait for 10. That’s 9 years of early morning shooting and ramble. 9 years of good folk reading this little corner of the web…thanks for everyone tuning in (close to 28,000 daily) – I still can’t believe so many people read Aquabumps with what started as just a little email between mates. Special thanks to Returnity who push this email newsletter out. Thanks Maddog, Ness, Jamie, Mikala, Mischee, Zac, Debs, Brett (for the Fuji gx617 loan), all the advertisers, Aquatech, Carl Woodward, Meescha (legal), Kelvinator (host master) and all the swimmercams for being good sports.
and…
b) and we’re now shooting with the salubrious new Canon 1ds Mark III. Yes camera geeks I got one…all 21.1 mega pixels of it…and the waiting list is worth it…and the focus is incredible…and the colours insane…and if you play your cards right you might even be able to touch it.

big fat highWe’re bang in  the middle of a big fat high pressure system. Good weather prevails, but the swell is laying dormant for another week. 1 foot, super clean and a tad chillier than last week. Work hard you’re not missing anything.
the mad board collectorI haven’t seen a mate of mine Damo for weeks. He’s been hiding in his den updating his blog which is dedicated to surfcraft from 1975 – 1985. You’ve never seen anyone get more excited about a Cheyne Laser Zap. He’s a freak. see blog

This east-swell/perfect weather phase continues today. Its currently tiny at Bondi, but would be much better at places that face the right way. (La Bra) Unfortunately there are no good swell prospects for quite some time now – so you’ll need to seek alternative entertainment; shopping with the little lady, de-waxing crusty skank of those sticks, learn to cook something, or just simply spend loads of coin at the Aquabumps Gallery.
Cheap boards Shameless plug – a group of mates and I are having a second hand surfboard bonanza sale tomorrow in Bronte. There’s nothing wrong with the boards (some have been ridden only a few times), we all just have too many. I have 15 at last count and having trouble entering one of my bedrooms. From 11am Saturday 15 March, 4/82 Hewlett Street Bondi.
the happening It’s happening…and happening tonight at the Bondi Pavilion, music, art, photos, weirdos, only a couple of tickets left and for a good ’cause (Sea Shepherd)

*InsomniacThese hot nights make for a crappy night’s sleep – hence I was up for the early. Looking at most eastern suburbs beaches pre-dawn, I didn’t find much. Maroubra had a little weak 2 foot wave, nice and clean and glassy, Bondi was 1 foot dormant and good for beginners…swell is from the ENE, so surf something exposed to that direction. Not great swell prospects, it actually getting smaller – but how about this weather! glorious and 27 fat degrees. Enjoy kids ’cause the claws of winter aren’t that far away. Later:: uge

East swell magnets will show a little bump today, approximately 2 foot with the odd 3 foot set. Perfect conditions with salubrious warm weather (max 27) and glassy conditions.
Taj Burrow, runner-up to the 2007 ASP world title, is in Sydney on route to Bells which starts next week. Bells is the 2nd world tour event and well suited to Taj’s frontside fast and furious hacks. He won Bells last year and hoping to do the same for 2008.
"I’m so psyched for Bells," Burrow said. "I want nothing more than to ring that bell back to back, especially after a slow start at Snapper. I want to make up some ground ASAP and Bells is where I plan on doing it."
blocking
It’s becoming harder and harder to deliver this little slice from the beach via email. Little IT geniuses make it interesting. If you’re NOT getting your Aquabumps daily (Monday to Friday – 5 reports a week), we’re sending them, you’re just not getting em. So to safeguard against this censorship conspiracy, put [email protected] into your safe senders list, address book, lunchbox to make sure you don’t vanish into the s*pa*m filter abyss. Life just won’t be the same kids.
the happening
Just a reminder, there is this big event at Bondi on Friday night. It’s basically a whole lot of creepy arty types that paint, make films, take photos and play music, some big names and they’re on a world tour. You need to buy tix – 35 bucks – buy online

That brief interlude with a late south ground swell last night was short lived. Swell direction switched to NE overnight and is now only dribbling into the bays – not really worth surfing, however there is always someone surfing at Bondi – and yes here are the only 4 waves of the day. Swell should pick up marginally this afternoon (not at Bondi – beaches that are east exposed) have a great day – its 27 degrees and as good as it gets..why would you live anywhere else!::uge

*toxicAfter a weekend of zero waves, we start a new week with…yep, very small unsurfable waves but how good is this weather? (26) Something freaky happening later today, a 15 second straight southerly ground swell will appear creating 3 foot fun before fading into tomorrow. 15 seconds kids is a massive interval…but at 1:20pm nothing shaking…so maybe my charts are out of whack. You see some strange things at Bondi. Yesterday a group of men played drums at North Bondi in white undies soaked in baby oil. Today 3 honks have passed out head first into the sand after a few too many at Bondi hotel – and then, hey, wot, a man surfing in a toxic waste suit. What tha? I don’t ask questions any more – just take pictures.

Sorry about the late update. 1pm Friday, you’re probably sliding into a bludging afternoon of searching google earth for new surf breaks anyway. Well there isn’t a great deal to report – onshore, small, and much smaller than when I shot at 7am this morning. Oh and the weekend doesn’t look to flash either – sub 2 foot. Sorry. But next week looks good – ENE swell, and waves every week day. Dang.
Since there are no waves it may be a good opportunity to check out the Aquabumps gallery 98 Brighton Boulevard North Bondi t:9130 8371.
Have a good weekend. uge

What a nice little surprise to see clean head high waves this morning. SE swell is producing the goods so I’d be thinking about getting out there. Winds are offshore NE at Bondi, but will howl 15 – 20 knots later today (still NE). 8am high tide, 2:45pm low tide. Deluxe 27 degrees and now sunny after thick morning cloud. Swell will die overnight and possibly onshore tomorrow morning – so come get ’em whilst dere hot. Later: yooj

*onshore
I love these 2-3 foot onshore Bondi days. Barely anyone out and hackable lefts in the corner. Winds will increase later today – making a mess of things – so now is good. Last two days have been cooking (especially in the northern corner of Bondeye – shows over now though)…Tomorrow 8.0 sec SE swell with light northerlies. Small but could be fun…
*let’s get plastered
A wise person once said to me, never use the power of my 28,000 daily readers for personal reasons…yep…well…WHATEVER, I am renovating and need a plasterer real bad, the best one in town, and need him pretty damn soon…no shonkies, the real deal (gyprocking, plastering, square setting). If you know anyone – flick me his number. Oh and my 4wheeeler is rusting apart – bits are falling of it – so anyone wants to donate a new car to Aquabumps that’ll suit me just fine. No I don’t need a work experience kid. Even if you ring me 10 times a day (not unless your old man is a plaster). Thanks for the 50 resumes in 2 weeks.
*the happening – Art, Film, Music Festival @ bondi
A bunch of really talented people are having a big night in Bondi to kick off their world tour. It’s called “The Happening”. It combines tunes by people like MATT COSTA, art by THOMAS CAMPBELL, JOE CURREN, KOPPS, and films like THE PRESENT and SLIDING LIBERIA. QUIKY are behind it and the coin goes to a good ’cause  – Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. March 14, 2008 6pm @ Bondi Openair at Bondi Beach Pavilion – you need to buy tickets online – 35 big ones. goldieDays like these can be quite tormenting. Today is pretty much a perfect day to do anything – perfect temp (26), no wind, no clouds…but what about the couple of metres of 10 second SE swell hitting Sydney at the moment. Bondi is 4-5 foot, glassy, closing out in the south but surprisingly good (and crowded) in the north. Last night was pretty much smokin’ with 80 crew fighting over a 4 sqm take off – chuck in a few beginners on the newly exposed drain-pit and you’ve got yourself a slice of anarchy right there.. Afternoon light was something else – GOLD as can be. So I guess you’re reading this at work, on ya computer in your 2×2 cubicle wishing you were somewhere else…like a south facing beach.
quiky pro final day The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast Champion will be crowned today. Today is the final day for the tours 1st event for the year. Waves are around 2-3 feet and clean. So if you’re not surfing you might as well watch the event online and pretend you’re doing work. Distracting live footage Can White Lightning Mick Fanning come through again?

chunkCurrently we’ve got a big south-east swell hitting Sydney – and its full of gas. Waves at Bondi were up around 6 foot with a couple of bomb sets. But there was no quality to be had, the ocean is still unsettled from the weekends southerlies. No one out in the southern corner, couple in the north on a trickling left. Tomorrow should be a much better day with grooming NE’s and a tad more in control. Found some great waves out of town yesterday – big’n’chunkie – and out of the wind. Have a great week, uge
