How’s ya tan? Been nice down the beach lately huh?
Yesterday’s howling winds stirred up some junkie windswell. Bondi was fat, fun and crowded this morning with head high sets. I’m hoping it gets better later on. I think it’s gonna be a full house though.
It’s a pretty full on time of year around Bondi. The big New Years’ Eve party is currently being set up and everyone has flown back from Christmas gatherings. Tomorrow night you will see 5,000 people dancing in the middle of the beach for the ‘Shore Thing’. I can remember all those years ago when it was 30,000 wide eyed enthusiastic kids and all the fences collapsed on the brink of a riot…were you around for that? All the toilet cubicles were rolled down the hill with people in them. It was hilarious. Think it was the turn of the century no or 2001?
If you like quiet Bondi…best head for the hills – she’s about to blow…
Merry Christmas! Hope the fatman came through with the goods. I saw plenty of new boards out there in the line-up over the past couple of days (mine included). Lucky lil’ vegemites aren’t we?
So the weather has been pretty bi-polar and a new storm is brewing hitting town Sunday. Ok – this will bring waves but it’s flanked with a howling southerly (30 knots).
The best news is that the last day of this year is shaping up to be a 27-degree-glamour. Yes, NYE should be a cracker.
These shots are bits and pieces from around here – not on any significant day. Just big beach days…see you down there.
Bye :: uge
P.S. The Aquabumps Gallery is now back open (sorry we are not on Sale like the rest of Sydney). We will only close of New Year’s Day (you’re all too hungover for shopping anyway).
In keeping with Aquabumps tradition, the last update of the year shows my favourite shots from 2013. I barely traveled this year so it’s all about Bondi. Next year we are not having babies so I will be back on the plane visiting exotic waves and locations.
Special thanks to you all for tuning in. Can you believe 2014 marks 15 years of Aquabumps? Aquabumps is an original idea thought up in the nineties when everyone said it won’t take off. Back then sharing photos wasn’t easy (no social media – no blogs – nuttin’) so a daily photo email was the best vehicle and cutting edge. 50,000 people now receive this email newsletter all over the globe with a further 200,000 visiting the site. We also will tick over 100,000 fans on Facebook any minute now and interact with 30,000 insty addicts daily – that’s a lot of people! Thanks! Comment here to let us know where you are reading Aquabumps and tell us a story.
Special thanks to our major partners who help make Aquabumps free (and interesting) for you all – Audi – the best cars in the biz (including Audi Centre Sydney), Telstra for connecting us, Corona for lubricating me, Rekorderlig for bringing something different to the table and Canon (best lens, printers and bodies on the market). Not to forget my Aquatech and O’Neill buddies for kitting me out each season. Speedo, Mastercard and Havaianas have been great to collaborate with this year too. Also thank you to the Aquabumps A-Team who work furiously in the gallery when I am working on my tan, shooting pics down the beach – Tyson, Ant Dono, Mischee, Knack boys, Mrs Tan, Kelvin Khoo, Christian, Glo and Ange. You’re the best!
Ok last call out (promise). Want to buy our latest book for Christmas? It’s not too late, we will Next Day Post it to you…Buy Book.
Merry Christmas and look forward to our morning chats in 2014.

There was such a good vibe down the beach this morning. The Christmas spirit was everywhere. Shame Santa still hasn’t broken our week long swell drought…the surf is tiny. Tomorrow there may be a little wind wave. How about this weather? 35 degrees today – tools down, hit the beach.
If you order our new salubrious Aquabumps Book before 2pm today and you live in Australia, we will Next Day Post it to you. In most cases, you will receive it Monday (with tracking). Bingo, another present down…order online now.
The surf is tiny but the water is warm and calm.
Big crowd for such a small wave, all enjoying the summer vibe.
Maybe some wind swell on the weekend, but this time of year ain’t famous for cranking waves. Better for partying and taking the foot off the gas.
The postie is our new best mate. We’ve been catching up a lot lately. Everyday we’ve been dropping off a truck load of books and gift cards…most of which make it to our customers next day. Want our new fancy Aquabumps book for xmas and you live in Oz? No probs. You’ll get it tomorrow if you live in the Express Next Day network. No lie…order online now.
It was well worth the early start. Great colours in the skies above Bondi as I swam around (circa 5:30am). Small wave chugging into the bay. Hungry pack hunting whatever was shaking. It’s only 1 foot so take the big logs. It’s a PERFECT beach day.
If you want to surf an exclusive right hander in the Maldives and listen to Donavon Frankenreiter, I reckon you will be interested in Kandooma. I’ve surfed Kandooma years ago…it’s a great right and the resort is next level (a good trip to take the lady friend)
Today’s all about the ladies. They were ripping out there…
The weather is supreme. As good as it gets…top of the wozza and 26. Not too hot, not too cool. It’s going to be amazing beach weather all week – but very small surf.
Ok, so you are Christmas shopping online and need it now…order our latest book online today and you will probably get it tomorrow (Aussie wide $25 shipping). Do it.
The rain was off and on this morning so I only took 5 photographs. Here’s the lot.
The waves were dismal…barely surfable. Rain forecasted for today but the weather should be really nice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
That was one of the biggest weekends in surfing with Mick Fanning winning his 3rd World Title on the buzzer – a real cliff hanger, can you imagine if he didn’t get that little inside wave? Kelly won the Pipe Masters (7th time) and Jon Jon Florence took out the Triple Crown. I can’t wait to get to Hawaii after watching all those amazing waves.
Have you got a copy of our new book? Order today, you’ll probably get it tomorrow if in Australia.
Seeya tomorrow ::uge
It’s flat as this morning but she’s shaping into one hell of a beach day. It could cool down with some thunderstorms later today.
There is quite a bit for us to talk about, so here is a summary:
The Pipeline Masters will most likely run this weekend (Remember Hawaiian time is one day behind). Mick and Slater will fight for the title in a nail biter. Go Mick!
If you’re in Sydney check out the final stop of O’Neill’s National Photographic Exhibition at 107 Projects in Redfern (107 Redfern Road). I’m one of five photographers showcasing my work that best sums up O’Neill’s #loseyourselfsomewhere philosophy. It’s free admission. More details or check out last night’s launch photos.
The Aquabumps Gallery has just been restocked with our HavaianasXAquabumps thongs – yes we have your size! Drop in and grab a pair before we sell out again.

A survey of over 400 adults showed approximately 15% are morning people, 25% are evening people, and 60% are intermediates.
I reckon it’s more than 15% for early birds around here…especially this time of year. As I always write, the wee hours are the best part of the day. The light is good, the winds are usually calm and we’re not distracted by mobile phones and email (yet).
Good, positive, motivated people are down the beach every morning. Everyone I meet is stoked on life and optimistic for the day ahead. A good way to be.
By the way, I’m not a morning person naturally, but the payoff is well worth peeling out of bed.
There are no waves today.
Oh…and if you want custom made artworks from our gallery you still have time to order. Our deadline is this Sunday 15th December for orders that are picked up from our Bondi Gallery. Aquabumps 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW Telephone 9130 7788. Order Online Now
Boy oh boy…it’s a real nice morning. The water is a seductive 20 degrees and surprisingly there are waves. The forecast was a little hard to understand, but I saw waves in the waist high to hairy upper lip range. Get wet!
You are probably not getting much work done with the Pipeline Masters on right now…waves look OK…but Saturday it’s going to be cooking! GO MICK! Watch Online
Have you seen our Aquabumps x Havaianas? 30 clams and they are all yours. Buy Online

It’s summer time and we’ve hit 30 degrees before 8am. How do ya like those apples? I wish I could report more swell but it died off real fast. We’ve got a dribbly NE wind swell…good for the mal…but it’s burning into a real beach day. Baby oil up and work on the base tan.
Looks like it’s going to be small all week long.
In our gallery custom orders need to be in by this Sunday 15th Dec. What that means is you can still order any photo, any size and we will make it in time for Xmas (sorry, pick up from Bondi only now)…so trawl our online catagloue, call us for help 9130 7788 if you are stuck, and get to it Tonto!
Today is one of those days where you can’t help but think you are missing out. There is so much swell around and the winds are gentle (at the moment). It’s just our Eastern Suburbs beaches can’t hold this much swell.
Somewhere on the coast will be going off right now. South swell, North winds…hit it, especially on the incoming tide. Drive far away and find some reef.
Yesterday was an action packed day at Bondi…huge crowds, huge swell, Angelina Jolie, the looping Red Barron, ambulances blazing up and down Campbell Parade…Bondi turns into such a hectic place at this time of year. So much going on!
Have you got a copy of my new book yet? It’s only been on sale for 2 weeks and we’ve mowed through 10 pallets. Buy Online Now (1-2 days delivery Aussie wide)
The swell has gone south and so has the wind. Let’s hope this change will bring warmer water – as it has been pretty nippy (Yesterday it dropped to 17 degrees with those northerly winds).
The waves are average. It’s now onshore but it was waist to chest high this morning down at Bondi and Tamarama. A little cooler on land also only scraping 23 degrees.
There is only 18 days left of Christmas shopping. If you want to order custom prints and frames from the Aquabumps Gallery we’ll need to see you soon! Our order deadlines are next week (pickups from Bondi)…get to it! View our catalogue and order online.
She ain’t pretty this morning. Wet, grey and wobbly.
The swell has tweaked around to the North but looking really unsettled and short period (windswell).
You will still score a head high wave…but you’re not missing much. A good day to do your Christmas shopping as tomorrow the sun is back!
Chrissy shopping? Yes kids, the fatman is coming down the chimney in less than 3 weeks. Everyone is shopping online these days…it’s just too easy. The Aquabumps Gallery is fully online and we ship anywhere. Our new book “The Beach Blog” is a cracker – so happy with it. Order before lunchtime and our team will get it to you tomorrow. Interstate? No worries – most will be next day. Overseas? Sure…Fedex will fly it to you…just add the book to your shopping cart and our fancy freight calculator will do the rest. ORDER NEW BOOK ONLINE NOW
Another idea – how about our Aquabumps/Havi thongs?
The East swell came up very strong last night. Stronger than I thought. Waves are in the 4 foot range and looking pretty good. Bondi neglects that swell direction so you will need to visit more Easterly facing beaches such a Tama, Maroubra, Manly.
It is going to hit 29 degrees today. Bask in the sun as tomorrow showers will arrive.
Christmas is only 3 weeks away. Hard to believe I know. A gift card from our gallery can just hit the spot – order online now and we can email you one or you can get the fancy box and card posted to you.

I’ve written around 4,000 daily posts on Aquabumps over the past 15 years. That’s a lot of writing for a guy who got a C+ in English at school (I wasn’t big on school and spent most of my time wagging class to hide in the darkroom).
Sometimes coming up with something to write about can be excruciating. Like today. There’s barely any waves to discuss, no sharks (not in Bondi that is), no major happenings down the beach. Just a solid summer’s day with plenty of people up early enjoying the amazing weather.
So…enjoy your morning coffee whilst scrolling down through my pics…try spend your day outside.
If you are one of our many readers in The United Kingdom, order an unframed print today online and you shall receive it around the 16th December just in time for Chrissy. I recommend ordering unframed prints with border – they look best. Our online store has a fancy freight calculator – just add anything to your cart and all will be revealed. See artwork options

Greetings. Welcome to summer and a brand new week.
For the next 3 days we will experience salubrious beach weather. I strongly suggest slipping out for some beach time.
The waves will be small so either surf a mal or just swim.
Our Aquabumps Gallery Christmas Order deadlines are creeping up real fast. If you are interstate or overseas and want stuff, you need to get busy today…see ordering info right here.
Gav from Bronte owns a business called Fruit Man Sam. That makes sense doesn’t it? Maybe Sam is his alter ego or his imaginary friend. Anyway, he goes out to the markets whilst we are all sleeping and hand picks decent fruit and vege from the big markets out west, then delivers it to your door in the Eastern suburbs. He’s offering a deal, buy 4 boxes and get 1 free. Hit him up…say you’re from the Bumps.
