These kinda grey, onshore, east swell days are hard work to shoot. Hard to ‘Bring home the bacon’ that’s for sure. So it looks like I am going to rely on some random snaps and witty captions to entertain all 50,000 of you. Not my strength. When I was getting C’s in English 20 odd years ago who’d thought I would be writing something that people would read, daily.
Don’t surf today, surf tomorrow and Friday. Better.
Taj Burrow paddled out at Bondi last week and caught a few waves in 15 mins. This is what that looked like. Video
A lot of people wonder how it is possible to get up at sunrise every morning. I always tell ‘em its my freshly delivered Fruit and Veg from Fruitman Sam. Ha. Go here for your own box, fresh from the markets…

Today is the smallest day to surf for the week.
There is a residual East swell in town and Maroubra was bleeding it dry. I saw sets around chest high at the Bra…looked fun but inconsistent.
Of course I have to say this…the weather has been incredible…so warm for this time of year and the sunrises have been fruitful. I’m happy.
There is something about to erupt this weekend with howling Westerlies. Gonna be solid, 6 + foot big.

They say boring people talk about the weather…like it’s a nervous thing to make small talk when in elevators, queuing for the bus or grabbing a coffee. I must be very boring, I talk about the weather every day. Lately I’ve been talking about the weather more than usual – as it’s been pretty ah-mazing.
Today is a cracker. It’s winter and it is likely to hit 22. They’re great digits.
Small wave from an East swell chugging into Bondi…nothing special.

Today’s photos were all taken with 1 lens, 1 body, 1 housing. I’m lucky enough to have so much good gear, but some days it’s nice to simplify it all down…back to basics…like when I started out. You just make it work with whatever lens you have on… and spend less time fussy about in your camera bag changing lenses.
Amazing sunrise today….but it was very short lived. About 3-4 minutes of vivid colour to be exact.
The swell is up, Bondi broke around head high this morning. Well worth surfing. In fact for the next 7 days we’ve got waves…how good is that?
Have a great weekend, come check out our new garden in the back of the gallery. (Designed by Willie Dangar)

The sun is back, the offshore winds are blowing and Bondeye was 3-4 foot this morning. That combo normally means its cranking…but it wasn’t…really. Plenty of wonkiness out there in random peaks. Guess that is legacy of yesterday’s onshore agitation.
It’s cold, 8 – 18. Tomorrow looks fun, dead south swell. Back to an east swell on Saturday and Sunday…very surfable for days to come. Enjoy.

Big swell, rogue waves, wind and grey skies. Ah yes, a front has just rolled through Sydney but it looks short lived with the skies clearing already.
Australia is smothered by a giant high pressure system, so I reckon fine weather will come back and better winds for surfing. Hopefully the ocean will settle too…making Thursday and Friday this week attractive for board riders.
Have a rest day today…prepare for some good times…
We launched our Melbourne Exhibition on Friday night…thanks to all those that came along. If you are down in Melbs the exhibition will remain up for a few more weeks. 33 of my best and favourite works are hanging at the Eleven40 Gallery, 1140 Malvern Road, Malvern. Webby

The skinny on today is nice light, small waist high lefts and a friggin’ freezing offshore winds – direct from the snow tops.
The swell is coming up, so by the time you read my daily spiel it should be head high. Now that’s exciting.
Tomorrow will produce waves in the 6 foot range. How about ‘dem apples?

Hi there…damn chilly down there this morning before the sun came up. Only 7 degrees. The sand felt like ice.
To my surprise there were a few waves on offer from a NE swell. Huge lulls, but easily a chest high wave and very few people out there. Gotta love winter.
I swam early…and the toes are still defrosting.
Brand spankin’ new dead south swell will hit Wednesday. Looks solid.
Until tomorrow, enjoy the winter sun : : u g e

This is quite possibly the earliest Aquabumps Daily Update in 14 years. Some days it takes me 4-6 hours to do one single update (shoot + write + upload + chat + spread across all social channels). Today I thought I’d challenge myself…30 minutes to shoot (including travel time on the pushie) and 30 minutes to write and upload. This is what I’ve come up with – lucky the light was exquisite and you could basically point a camera in any direction and score something.
The waves are lacking though, knee to waist high…I think the best waves of the day are depicted here. Considering the swell charts forecasted flatness today – anything that you can ride is a bonus.
Tomorrow the swell will come up, flanked with rain. Enjoy today!
Tomorrow night I open my Aquabumps exhibition in Melbourne. If you live down there, you’re welcome to come to the opening night or pop in and check it out over the next few weeks. It’s at the Eleven40 Gallery, 1140 Malvern Road, Malvern, VIC 3144 Australia P: 03 8823 1140 Still lost? more information on our exhibition, oh and I’m doing a seminar on Saturday in Melbs too…

Good morning peeps.
Real nice conditions down the beach.
Nice’n’glassy…just small. Knee to chest.
Doesn’t feel cold – does it? Max 22 today.
Sunny for the next two days…then rain.
Next swell due Friday.
Here are 3 videos I  like at the moment:

The Anatomy of Owen Wright
The Originals (a Shipsterns film)
Oh…and I want one of these Wave Gardens out the back of the gallery near my new tropical forest that is going in today. Those Spanish are clever, aren’t they?

The surf is tiny but Bondi is bleeding the swell dry. Waves mainly broke around your chins but sometimes up near your chest hairs (if you are patient enough).
Grab a long board, a long black and go for a spin in the 17 degree water. It’s refreshing…
The great news is that on Friday there will be a new NE swell hitting Sydney and you might even get a wave break overhead. Looks short lived and the weekend will be small small again.

Normally Mondays are very quiet down at Bondi as everyone has a serious face on – as they worry about the busy week ahead.
Grey 1 foot Mondays are REALLY quiet.
You didn’t miss much action down the beach this morning.
In fact, all week it looks very small until a new swell arrives on Friday.
Wednesday and Thursday look like good weather. Work now, beach later.

It was a bit chilly down there this morning. A lucky 8 degrees. The water was a welcome reprieve…being much warmer than the air.
There is a small wave on offer, waist to inconsistent chest high. Shallow bank in the south end has the most joy.
The forecast for the weekend looks sunny and small…maybe pop into the Aquabumps Gallery ’cause we completed some huge renovations and it’s now doubled in size. Yep. Doubled. You’ll see what I mean when you come down…and an amazing back yard garden is under construction for you to hide in.

The weather is perfect today and there is a little waist to chest high wave on Sydney’s beaches.
That’s about all the information you require today. Try and go for a swim or surf…

I’ve seen it better. There were a few. It’s nothing magical. And it was raining.
The lefts dominated again this morning down at Bondi. Looked a lil’ funky with some morning sickness.
As I type this the clouds are parting and we return to sunshine and good times.
It’s only waist to chest high…so make the most of it.
Tomorrow will be cleaner with SW offshores.

It’s a goofy footers paradise down at Bondi this morning. The only option is to surf the Bunker Left in the corner as the rest of the beach doesn’t have much at all. It’s a south wind with a dead south swell (Bondi loves that combo)…oh and under corrupted rainy skies. Our salubrious run of good weather has come to a halt. The sunshine will return on Thursday and stay until next week.
Bondi bay is full of fish. No Whale slappin’ since Sunday but I thought a Seal was going to take someone out yesterday as it scrambled around for fish.
Until tomorrow, : : u g e

Taking photos is all about being in the right place at the right time.
If you stood at Bondi, around 10:30am yesterday this is what you would have captured:

Looking to your right you would have seen super fun waves for the Bondi Board riders comp. I saw the cars and setup still there this morning, so I think beers were abundant.
The Chilli Jam Skate comp was on at the Bondi bowls…full house there.
Looking to your left there was a concert on – oh and a Winter Festival… not a spare inch of grass left.
Hang on…look to the Bucket List and you’ll see the Lions Rugby team guzzling beer – celebrating their win. I don’t think I have ever seen so many people down at the Bucket.
And then…what? A Whale came in close and slapped a surfer, flinging him in the air, rendering him unconscious. C’mon…what is the chances of that? A freak. A one in a billion. I can’t work out who shot this photo as it has been flung around the web, but I am so bummed I didn’t take it. A miracle shot.

So…all this was happening at once on our small city beach…just 900 metres of it – on a day where I decided to enjoy the sunshine and put the lens down. I’ve spent hours following whales in the bay at Bondi, and they barely lift a tail. Oh well, next time.
This morning I did capture some good chunky waves with a solid south ground swell. Hit it.

We’ve had the best week of light. It makes such a difference shooting with crisp, golden, winter light. We’ve also had amazing waves with a solid batch of ENE swell all week long. Today is the smallest day of the swell so far – but still 3 foot’n’fun. From here on, it will go 1-2 foot for 3 days.
The weather is going to be amazing over the weekend…plan to be outdoors.

Ain’t the water just spot on at the moment. Feels so warm…the dash across the sand can give you a little frosty jolt though. Much better in than out.
Waves – yeah we got some of those too. East swell has arrived in town which is neglecting South facing Bondi. I am sure Maroubra or Tama would have much bigger, better waves today. I did find a few hollow chambers at Bondi to stick my lens into.
Have a good day. Go outside. It’s damn fine.

Super chilly morning as it dropped to a single digit. I still saw people roaming around in boardies, just like in summer.
A small wave was trickling in on a shallow bank at Bondi. Maaan it was quite hectic though. Everyone was keen to soak up the winter sunshine.
Don’t forget I have 2 cameras and a newish Mac laptop on ebay, auctions close tomorrow (Sorry, will only sell thru ebay – no side deals)

Today is a brand new day!
Today we have sunshine after two weeks of winterly gloom. Maybe my gallery roof will stop leaking, finally.
Today we have a new Prime Minister – and soon a new cabinet.
Today we enter a new financial year.
Today I am back in the water after being dry docked for close to a month! Yes, I can swim! (kinda, well, just with one leg)
: : u g e
P.S. there is a little waist to chest high wave at Bondi. Barely anyone out so good for a paddle.
