Went for a quick swim this morning and took these snaps.
Little clean wave on offer, only 1-2 foot. Banks are pretty decent and suit a smaller swell.
Cora got a shot of me shooting Lukey Daniels…just if you are curious how to get these shots. Gotta get in close.
We have a full time sales position going in our Bondi Gallery. Have a read of this job description…sound like you? Well…send in your 1 page resume to [email protected] – but make sure you a) have successful sales experience b) not on a traveling visa c) love a chat. This job vacancy is working on the gallery floor and nothing to do with taking photos (so you won’t be spending 5 weeks in Hawaii, flying in helis, sun tanning on the beach in a Chillazy beach chair!).
Every day is different down the beach. Today has head high waves and smothered with clouds at sunrise. Completely the opposite to yesterday.
The waves look fun…I would if I could…
It was chilly at sunrise…autumn gears are kicking in. The weather looks awesome on Thursday and Friday (waves too).
Every morning I peer through my blinds hoping that just the right amount of cloud will be in the correct position to light up above Bondi. Today it was on. Amazing colours to greet this fine day. Still after 16 years of Bondi sunrises I get stoked to wake up to this! Even though the waves were tiny it was a sensational morning to be down the beach. I hope you were down there to witness the colour spray. Remember these days for when you pop into the Aquabumps Gallery and think “Does it really get that colourful down at Bondi?”.
You know you’ve made it when The BEAST are writing about you. Thanks for the flood of stirring emails… Those creepy Hutton Bros. put out a very good local publication though.
(just to clarify, it’s pronounced Yooj. Yes, a bit like Huge…but is short for Eugene. But you can call me whatever you like).
Gotta give it to those One Wave crew, they’ve surely started something big. It’s their 2nd birthday today and an enormous crowd rolled down to Bondi at sunrise.
It could not have been a better morning for the crew. No waves, warm water and stunning sunrise.
Bondi is surfless. North East swells don’t even enter our bay…other beaches may have a wave 1-2 foot for a log sess.
Unfortunately there’s a southerly storm looming…she’ll hit today and cool down Sydney, maybe with some rain. Not gunna be a beach weekend.
Tomorrow the swell will come up – head high – but probably onshore junkies.
Come see us in the Aquabumps Gallery, open all weekend 10am to 6pm at 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026 Telephone 9130 7788.
Thanks for reading this far…
With all this East swell it made sense to go for a drive and have a look around. Bondi neglects the current swell direction and it was tiny. It’s dropped quite a lot overnight.
I found waves only in the 2 foot range at exposed beaches. Nothing fantastic. Really warm, comfortable conditions early – which make it easy to get out of bed.
Did you know that Surfaid’s Surfing Chefs raised $44k last week at the Bucket List? Not bad huh? I’m happy to report that one of our artworks sold at auction for $4k which is awesome (all proceeds going to Surfaid). See party photos
Tomorrow The One Wave Crew (Fluro Brigade) are celebrating their 2nd birthday. They are joining 20 beaches globally to make the largest Fluro waves in the world. Gonna be a big one down at Bondi tomorrow 6:30am More info
Ends :: uge
All the action today is happening 10 metres off the shoreline. No flippers required. The high tide put on some shorey action. T’was fun!
East swell producing some small 2 footers with 3 foot sets. Super clean and glassy at sunrise.
30 degrees today, hot. Thunderstorms coming…
The 6:00am high tide swallowed up anything worth surfing this morning. By the time you read this it should be close to low…and probably much better.
Lovin’ these autumn mornings. The air feels clean, the light is warm and the sun rises later so I can have more of a sleep in!
Small waves all week. It’s actually an East swell (sorry, I misinformed you yesterday). Hit a beach exposed to East swells and you shall score some fun ones.
I had a good time with the shorebreak today whilst the tide was porking up anything else out the back.
It was an all-star cast down at Bondi this morning enjoying 2-3 footers. Everywhere I looked someone was doing a major hack, air, tailwaft…etc…etc.
Taj Burrow must of heard about our good waves and stopped by on his way home (W.A. could have some big waves this weekend).
Love Monday’s as the crowds are super thin. Should be waves all week. Mostly South swells which are a bonus for Bondi.
How about last Friday’s Quiky Pro Finals huh? Tricky small conditions suiting the little guys on the tour – but wow – #nextlevel surfing. Julian Wilson was on fire but Filipe Toledo was doing stuff you just don’t see in comps. Carissa Moore took out the women’s over Steph Gilmore in amazing form. More
The south storms have arrived and wintery conditions have taken over. The southerly was howling 20 knots this morning, that’s OK…Bondi can be fun with the onshore mess. OK, maybe not as windy as this morning but at least it’s bringing some swell. You might find some head high runners later today.
The Quiksilver Pro is on right now and they finally have good waves. Write off your work concentration for the rest of the day and watch it online now.
Today is the your last chance to win one of our Academy Brand/Aquabumps/Andrew Warhurst surfboards. They’re mighty fine pieces…enter online now (takes 5 seconds).
Have a great weekend, nothing special on the weekend surfwise.
This morning I went for my routine swim to assess the surf and water conditions for you. It was real pretty at 6:45am…some amazing colours scattered across the skies. The water was warm and semi-clear. The waves were a small, 1-2 foot and lacking substance. Swell arrives tomorrow…phew.
I spent 30 minutes chasing string rays, mapping sand banks and freaking out surfers by surfacing in random locations. I strongly recommend going for a swim now before the strong 20 knot southerly hits town.
Did you know Australian photographer has claimed the world record price for a print? A bargain at $7.85 million AUD. The image is called ‘Phantom’ which is causing quite the stir in the art world as now one knows who the phantom buyer is (excuse the pun). So once you’ve forked out nearly 8 mil for your photo you may be interested in Peter’s 25 million dollar Hawaiian holiday house which is on the market. Big biccies! Read SMH
Nice clean, small waves this morning. It’s only waist to chest high and kinda weak…but surfable. We finally have a couple of banks at Bondi – which best suit a very small swell like today.
Round 2 is currently running at the Quiksilver Pro, Snapper. It looks tiny and torturous. The waiting period has been extended to Friday to allow for a new swell on the horizon. View live
If you’re not doing anything tonight, come down to the Bucket List Bondi for the SurfAid Surfing Chefs. You can get $150 tickets on the door and it’s gonna be huge. Anyone can come. More
We’ve teamed up with The Academy Brand so you can win a very special board shaped by Andrew Warhurst skinned in one of our photographs. They look hot. Enter here
I wasn’t sure if it would be pouring with rain or deeply overcast this morning. Surprisingly…it was neither. Golden hues welcomed the day after a steamy night…felt just like Singapore. By 8am the cloud cover won the battle and is here to stay.
Waves – nothing of significance to discuss. I saw weak waist high surf that was pleasant on a log. Wait until Friday when the swell machine fires up once again.
‘nuf rambles. Do good work today.
Autumn…the best time of year I reckon.
The water has retained it’s warmth, the light is gold, the crowds have subsided. It’s good.
That booming weekend’s swell (that caught us off guard) has now gone. It was dropping a foot every hour. I reckon it will be flat by midday.
So many sharks around at the moment. Love that fishing boat that keeps on chumming up in the middle of Bondi bay. Very considerate of them.
What are you doing on Wednesday night? Want to come support Surfaid and eat some good food at the Bucket List Bondi? Heaps of crew coming to Surfing Chefs. It will be fun. See you there. Buy tickets online
Have a great week.
Sydney really turned it on with an amazing sunrise to start the day. How good was it? Thousands had their phones out capturing the morning hues before returning to their daily rituals. Quite a rare morning.
Coincidentally the surf has turned on. South swell and offshore winds. 4 foot. BINGO!
Bondi was closing out (no suprises there)…take the afternoon off and go for a drive, a lot of places will have decent waves today.
The Aquabumps Gallery is open all weekend 10am to 6pm @ 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach Telephone 02 9130 7788. We have a vast collection of beautiful sunrises shot over the past 16 years. They look great on the wall. Check out our sunrises.
Ok, ‘nuf ramble. Out :: uge
Pretty happy about this morning. T’was top notch. Good colours, water temps and even a little waist to chest high wave @ Bondage. Huge crowd down the beach enjoying the summer-like conditions before a southerly smothers Sydney with wind and clouds.
Amazing how different today is. In 24 hours the sunshine has gone, the waves are now flat, the crowds have dissipated and we have kinda a gloomy day down the shoreline.
Pack the boards away for today – it’s unsurfable. Save your time for later in the week when 4-6 footers will break on Friday. Woohoo!
Surfing Chefs for Surfaid. A group of famous multi-talented men who surf and can cook are hosting a dinner for Surfaid – yes – Surfing Chefs. Who? I have a friend in Bondi who’s one smart little genius. Whatever he does he succeeds. His name is Gideon. He’s just launched his new venture called Monetise which is a website that performs a financial health check making sure you are getting the most from the banks and in turn saving your hard earned money. I didn’t have enough good photos from this morning to fill a report, so the tail end is some Hawaiian gold shot just before leaving…
If you get the opportunity go outside, do it. It’s a magic autumn day in Sydney. Even better if you can go outside AND hit the beach as there’s clean waves, warm water and a rad shorey at Bondi. It’s funny, spend 5 weeks in Hawaii (Land of the world’s best shore breaks) and a thumper arrives right on my front door.
Clouds will cover the skies later today…so right now is the best part of the day.
We’ve teamed up with our Academy Brand buddies for the chance to win 3, limited, finely crafted, epic, photo printed, surfboards by Noosa legend surfer/shaper Andrew Warhurst. (see shaper’s webby). These boards are works of art. You gotta see ’em. We’ve got 3 boards to giveaway and all ya have to do is GO HERE TO ENTER.
I’m back from my 5 week sabbatical in Hawaii. It feels good to be back. I need my travels to refresh my eyes – otherwise I can sometimes switch to auto-pilot shooting the same beach for 16 years. (yep, now 16 years).
It was great to see good waves at Bondi this morning as well – I would even say it’s better here (today) than the north shore for the last few days (they’re having a small stint).
Looks like an East swell and south winds (cross shore at Bondi). Looks so fun.
You would look great in one of our tees. We still have some stock. Otherwise you’d look even better if you ate all your fruit and vege from local delivery service Fruitman Sam. He’s offering 50% off the first box – just call 0420 906 061. After being in Hawaii for 5 weeks you realise just how good our produce really is – we are so lucky!
