Birds Eye

How good was yesterday? Nice huh? Today – not so good. The southerly winds have returned today so the beaches are an onshore mess. The waves dropped out and you will only find 1 footers.
The good news is that this weekend is a beach weekend. Saturday will boast a summery 27 and Sunday 30! Good times people.
Today’s images were shot yesterday, flying high above Sydney. I love the above angle and have been addicted to it for years.

Tornare

It’s back…sun + waves that is! 3 cheers!
After a long week of pretty miserable weather  it’s finally come good. You’ve probably been indoors working hard so it’s a good day to take some time off and surf or swim. I am.
Do you know 7 people work at Aquabumps? An empire. Kinda. OK not really. We are looking for a grommet to help out in our production department. Y’know, cutting prints and working back of house. Approx. 20 hours a week. Need to be switched on and keen az. Read this

Storms

Well…this storm currently lashing Sydney has plenty to it, doesn’t it? It’s been raining a lot lately with gale force winds. These storms are fruitless for surfers…the wind is just too strong and few surf spots are protected enough. Today is a great day to collect brownie points and get some work done.
Should you find yourself shopping all weekend, out of the rain, head to Supa Centa Moore Park – we’ve got a pop up exhibition installed there looking all pretty with my latest works.
Question: So when is it calming down? Answer: Monday
Question: Next sunny beach day? Answer: Next Thursday

P.S. these photos shot today will not be making it into my gallery!

Plan C

Plan A – shoot amazing waves at Bondi, with pink skies and guys shredding.
Plan B – shoot Icebergs…always find something around there with good shelter from gale force winds and rain. Not today!
Plan C – show some amazing shots from my recent trip to Italy. Tick. Let’s go with that.
Hard day to get anything decent to shoot. No one surfing around here – the beach is deserted. The storm has taken over. I am sure you could find a sheltered corner – within 1-2 hours of Sydney.
Best bet, wait for this storm to pass.

Mush

Take at look the photo above…that kinda sums up the beach today. Mush burgers. The wind is howling and we have isolated showers. You’re not really missing anything down here on the beach. Feels like winter. Do some work. Have a cup of tea.

Early Shift

What…an Aquabumps daily email in your inbox before 10:30am? Can’t be! Yeah, this is the new me. How do ya like them apples? Well…the sun is rising so damn early (5:30am) and I am waaaaay ahead of my usual schedule. In fact my biggest problem is that there is barely anyone out to shoot so early.
Nice morning, calm, 2 footers with 2.5 ft sets. Huge school of salmon in the bay. So much marine life in Bondi lately. Storm clouds brewing.

P.S. Just checking, you did see this Bondi shark photo, didn’t you? Yeah…just another one.

Local

Been in the ocean yet today? You should. It’s good. And the rest of this week is a windy, rainy and cooler.
There’s some little waves around the traps. Nothing really worth writing about.
4 things you need to know:

The Aquabumps crew raised $16,000 for SurfAid last week. Thank you to all 108 people that donated. Greatly appreciated. In total the SurfAid Cup raised $147,000 for the poor people of Indonesia. How good is that? Unfortunately we came 2nd in surfing the Cup…again…by 1 point…losing to the same team as 2014… #nothappy
Spot Anderson from Bondifit is a freak. OK, you knew that. He took a group out swimming to the shark nets last week and got a little surprise cameo from a Noah out there…look here
Lifeguard Kerrbox told me that on the Sunday 14th Sept, Festival of the winds Sunday that is, there was 40,000 on the beach. The lifeguards performed 62 rescues on that Sunday. A guy necked 4 king browns, went for a swim and wasn’t seen again until later that night. He stumbled home to Newtown, in wet boardies leaving his phone, wallet, everything on the beach all arvo. That’s why we had so many choppers on that Sunday searching for him!
Bondi Penthouses sell for 21 million. Cheap huh? I will take 2. The Pacifico (Old Swiss Grand) dropped it’s scaffold skirt this week revealing some of the most expensive real estate this side of Monaco. What does 21 million look like?

Enough useless information for 1 Monday.

Rituals

I hear this all the time…
“Don’t you get sick of shooting the same thing every day?”
No…I like it…
It’s cliche…but…there’s always something new down the beach. Kinda like a lucky dip. After 16 years and over 4,000 morning shoots at Bondi, I still see new stuff. Just gotta have the eyes open.
2-3 footers today, junkie but surfable. Becoming cloudy and will rain now.
Signing out.

Beach time

We’ve got a new south swell streaming into Bondeye…it’s looking real pretty. There are waves breaking above a short man’s head…and it’s only gonna get bigger. Bondi suffers under these current conditions. It just can’t handle it. At sunrise some waves broke fat – most just folded and closed out. Needless to say…paddling out on a fine looking day, such as today…would be enjoyable regardless the pursuit. It’s not as cooking hot as yesterday (weird wasn’t it)…but it’s still worthy of some beach time.
Have a fantastic day.

Get Wet

I woke, peered at my phone…like we all do as we’re phone addicts…and saw the forecast was 28 degrees for today. How could I not go for a swim. Coming down?
There were tiny waves on a central Bondi bank. Best suited to beginners and longboarders. North Bondi is looking the biz right now with clear, blue water…and plenty of sunshine. Stick the out-of-office on and hit it.

Back to the Curves

I am back in Bondi and lovin’ the Spring weather. I missed the waves whilst I was away!
Some fun lil’ 2 footers around, clean…and warm.
From Friday’s poll – 92% of our readers said that they like a healthy mix of overseas and Bondi photos on Aquabumps (30% overseas 70% Bondi). I better book more trips away huh.
Aquabumps is raising money for our main charity SurfAid. This Friday we’ve formed a team to surf in the SurfAid Cup…and we need your support. Huge thank you to the 76 people that have donated to our cause so far. We have currently raised $10,121 and need more. So the other 46,567 readers I would love it if you could shed a few bucks to support our biggest fundraiser of the year…think of it as a subscription fee to our free daily email service. Go on… Donate here.
Cheers, Uge

La Plage

G’day. How’s your Friday going? Are you ready for a beach weekend in Sydney? The weather forecast looks perfect.
I was lucky enough to spend most of this week on the coast of southern France. Amazing place…just so different. Good water colours and clarity. I don’t often visit places without waves…so it was really quite a different experience for me. Lots of swimming, fancy dining and baking. The French order a lot of my gallery prints – so it was good to see where they come from and what they have on their coastline. One thing’s for sure – we are very lucky here in Australia with our beaches.
From Monday Aquabumps returns to its usual Bondi waves. Out of curiosity, what do you prefer to see on Aquabumps? Photographs of just Bondi, Bondi and more Bondi OR do you like some of the overseas escapes searching for far away paradises? Vote here (after clicking wait a second or two for the poll to load)

P.S. we have a couple of sales jobs going in the Bondi Aquabumps Gallery. 1 x Casual Sales Assistant + 1 x Casual Senior Sales Person

Capri

Capri is an Italian island hanging off the coast of Naples. It’s a rugged chunk of rock that sticks out of the sea. It’s a huge holiday destination and pretty packed at this time of year. The Blue Grotta (or sea cave which is lit from below) is pretty special – write that one down for your bucket list. It’s hot…and you’ll spend most of your day swimming or boating.
Waves? Well not on Capri but I hear further north there was a few on the weekend after a large storm hit.

Costiera Amalfitana

The forecast for today on the Amalfi Coast…34 degrees and sunny. Just like yesterday. In fact, just like the last 3 months. Lucca, who makes my morning coffee reckons it’s only rained once in 2 months (Disclaimer – Lucca’s English is as good as my Italian, we make do with lots of hand movements). It’s the perfect beach climate…the water is crystal clear and 21 degrees (sans sharks). Last weekend marked the end of holiday season and the hordes are dissipating. A good time to visit if you want to chill.
It’s Father’s Day this Sunday. How about getting Papa an Aquabumps book. Order online now and my team will get it to you before the weekend (Australia only). We have plenty of artworks in stock ready to go…frames start at $150 and in store there are $35 mounted prints. Aquabumps Gallery 02 9130 7788 or go to our website and there will be someone on live chat ready to help. Suggestions
