Rays

The sun is out – how good is that. Soak it up. The waves are tiny, somewhere between knee to waist high. The wind is blowing onshore and making a mess… …and the Manly Australian Open of Surfing is on live now. Watch it now As you were…:: uge

Night Surfing

One of the benefits of having a fully lit Ice Skating Rink right on the sands of Bondi is that you can shoot night surfing. The swell has been huge lately and fortunately Wal found a newly formed left shorey grinder that was all lit up – bang in the perfect spot in front of […]

Rip dip

Greetings. Rolled down the hill to have a look at Bondi and was greeted with some fun 2 footers. Finally some south swell is drip feeding into the bay with the potential of getting bigger as the day progresses. The world’s greatest bank had waves, but the rip switched on putting some chop on the […]

Brrr

Don’t be fooled by the sunny weather – is pretty chilly outside (7) – and it’s only going to get colder as this week progresses. Some arctic air is being pushed up by a low off Tassie…so the first weekend of the ski season should have something to slide on. Down at Bondi it all […]

Like

4 things I like about today: 1. The surf is clean as the wind has kicked around to the north (2 ft) 2. The sun was out, albeit brief 3. The cold air blew off most of the crowds for the early. I still haven’t regained feeling in my fingers though. 4. I had many […]

P.S.

We’ve got a sloppy south swell and south wind down at Bondi this morning. The weekend’s clouds are still here and the rain is on and off. Quite a wintery picture down here with only 2, maybe the odd 3 footer. Quality is very poor as squalls roll through, yet the line-up is basically empty. […]

Theory

Right now the charts are calling a 15.5 second period, dead south 188 degree, 6-12 foot swell. Now those digits ‘should’ translate to really good waves – especially seeing its offshore (W). Tragically there are no banks at Bondi…the low tide exacerbates a wave type that is unsurfable – Le Close Out. Hence barely anyone […]

Groundswell

Looks like the charts got it right this week…we’ve got waves, good ones too! It’s about 3-4 foot and coming in from the south. That’s DEAD south (188 degrees if you’re a weather geek). That means basically if you’re not surfing a southern exposed beach it won’t be too consistent – or showing much bump. […]

the young master

Just like yesterday we’re stuck under this bit fat high pressurey and who’s complaining! Sun is bakin’, the wind is from the NE and the water is FROSTY. Looks like the mercury will hit 27 degrees and you’ll find messy 2-3 footers at northern exposed beaches. High tide midday, low tide 7pm. Young master Perth […]

Flipside

The swell direction has switched after that south change yesterday afternoon. The ocean looks a little confused, bumpy and lumpy. I reckon the dregs of that east swell is to blame. Should clean up as the day progresses (but the east wind is due mid-afternoon). 2-3 footers out there right now. Weather looks to be […]

The sabbatical

I bet you didn’t think there was going to be waves this morning after checking the swell charts last night. Well, there is. Small ones from time to time dribbling into the bay (2 footers). Now I’m not saying its pumping nor should you drop your pencils and dash out the office…but if you find […]

overzealous

I shot a lot of pics this morning – more than normal. I am not sure if it was because: a) I read too many photography books on the weekend (and was a bit overzealous) b) Had too many coffees c) There was just a lot going on this morning down the beach (pros, airs, […]

Junkies

Still junkie out there this morning…but the swell is leaping up by the hour. At sunrise it was only 2 foot…and looking quite dire. When I last checked around 9am, sets were hitting the 3- 4 foot mark as the swell period rockets from 8 secs to 14 seconds. Oh, and another good thing is […]
