It’s a bit like checking your shares…disappointing. That swell we had yesterday has been knocked around by the howling northerlies, leaving dribbles this morning. Bondi had micro 1-2 footers with absolutely no push. Pack of hungry mal riders in the middle having some fun.
That dreaded ‘Dozer is back on the beach straightening the beach from its natural curves. Curves = Rips. Straight = safe, but shapeless closeouts (well that’s my take on things)
Crazy skies this morning. Apparently I missed a bakin’ sunrise of colour (so everyone told me when I got down there), the tail end cloud formations weren’t too shabby. Thunderstorms predicted today (max 24) expect NW/NE winds at 15-20 knots. Rain again tomorrow and a slight improvement in swell Saturday afternoon. Sunday has a growing new south swell and Monday should be a good surf day.
Don’t forget Miss Bondi is on this Sunday at 2pm, Beach Road Hotel in the main bar downstairs.
Hard to believe Christmas is just around the corner as another digit ticks over. Christmas orders have begun in the Aquabumps Gallery – please allow 3 week minimum timeframe to get anything framed in time to stick under the tree. Save disappointment and get organised, come into the Aquabumps Gallery this weekend open 10am to 4pm both Saturday and Sunday, 98 Brighton Boulevard North Bondi (right behind the North Bondi RSL). If you can’t be bothered coming in, you can always order online…even if you’re overseas and wants presents sent locally – we can manage the lot. Call the Gallery hotline + 61 2 9130 8371 and we’ll chuck in some steak knives.
It a very busy time of year for most people. Christmas is coming and everybody wants everything finished before Christmas. But there is one thing you should try and squeeze into your busy today… that’s some time down the beach. Not only is it a stunning beach day, sunny and 24 degrees, but there are some great waves around (3ft).
This swell is from the SE (@ 9 seconds). The winds are now from the NNW, hence the good weather and cleaner waves. The winds will blow hard at 23 knots NE later tonight but south facing swell magnets should have decent waves if the tides don’t get funky.
Tomorrow should be similar but smaller. Forecast for the weekend is looking good – south swell and favourable winds – head out of town.
Our buddies at Winemarket.com.au are doing deals for Aquabumps readers. Stock up for the silly season and drown yourself in some Devil’s lair Filth Leg – good old west ozzie margs vinos – can’t go wrong. Ness I’ve put a cap on your order. You’re a mother now…Order Online Now
A fresh supply of sou-easterly swell is consistently pumping into Sydney’s beaches today. Waves at Bondi were a decent 4-5 foot, but the flanking ESE onshore was making its presence felt.
Bondi had the odd random wave but the banks weren’t really handling the size. I’d suggested a protected reef break…maybe something out of town…it would be worth the drive today.
Tomorrow the winds swing NNE – so hopefully this will groom the swell into a decent shape. Tomorrow night this SE swell changes to NE…have a good day, dark and gloomy down the beach early today ::uge
Plenty of swell around… but the annoying sou-sou-easterly was disrupting our chances of decent waves.
Bondi was blown out and of no use. Bronte had a small wave in the corner 3-4 foot, being slightly protected, I but didn’t really rate it either. Manly perhaps? That’s if the south swell isn’t marching right past their bay.
Looks like the winds will swing East, then a favourable North tomorrow afternoon. Until then it’s a onshore mess and a good day to do some work. Thursday and Friday should be fun, Se/E swell, 3 footers, north winds – good setup for Bondi.
The weather has been so volatile lately, you just don’t know what to expect. The weekend’s easterly swell has dissipated and now we have a brand spankin’ new south swell – with plenty of grunt.
At sunrise it was only 4-5 foot, the last time I checked it around lunch it was 6 foot plus. The nemesis southerly flanked the swell increase making a mess of things…but at least we’ve got swell. Just didn’t see it breaking very well – anywhere.
This south swell will peak overnight and hang around for a few days whilst slightly declining. You’ll just need to pick the narrow gaps in the wind to score anything clean. (or just get over to protected corners – like Manly and Bronte).
Miss Bondi ’08
It all starts this Sunday 2pm at the Beach Road Hotel. (note its changed from Saturdays). More info
With all this swell around somewhere has got to be going off. A brief drive thru the eastern suburbs beaches proved fruitless – fools gold. This decent NE swell is completely missing Bondi and streaming into Bronte and Tama – but the high tide is killing it – fatness everywhere and many closing out. Didn’t really see anyone catch a decent wave all morning, surprisingly.
All the action is on the other side of the bridge. Northern beaches would be pumping. NE swell would be gravitating to beaches like Manly (3-4 foot). Nice day too, forecasted 27 degrees so smoke the wagon north or deep south to score.
Forecast for the weekend is for this NE swell to run out of puff tomorrow and a new south swell to arrive on Sunday. Wind looks favourable all weekend (WSW or WNW) and you’ll find 3-4 footers on both days. Next Tuesday is starting to look special with a good south swell – dang.
Single Fin Classic tomorrow
Tomorrow if you’re down at Bondi you’ll see a bunch of weirdos dress in tight 70’s gear – its the Bondi Boardriders Club. They’ll throw out the odd 70’s dance moves then surf a single fin. The annual event is on again and some big names coming down from all over Australia. (Webber boys, Davo Davidson…) more info
Gallery is open all weekend 10am to 4pm @ 98 Brighton Boulevard North Bondi. We’re putting our prices up in 2 weeks seeing everyone keeps on charging us more and we haven’t put them up in 3 years. So best get in soon if you’ve been thinking about a piece for home.
You should really think about surfing today. At sunrise (well, I think there was a sunrise behind all that cloud), the waves were bumpy but 4-5 foot. Since then the waves have cleaned right up and with NW predicted this afternoon, it looks…good. Hit a NE exposed spot (not Bondi).
SDS opening last night
SDS opened their new store in Bondi last night (where Mambo used to be). Big turnout, no better way to stop traffic on Campbell parade than have 30 girls in bikinis out the front of your store. view pics from last night
It’s that time of year again – our friends at United Galleries are having their annual Hip Pop exhibition showing 8 young fresh exciting artists. In association with Father Riley’s Youth Off The Streets the show will have 4 ‘hip’ and 4 ‘pop’ artists. If you would like to come to the opening night please RSVP here ([email protected]) View catalogue
The start of a new NE swell has arrived. And so has the rain. Bondi had a wonky waist high wave, not really doing much. The wintery weather was quite off-puttin’ – barely anyone out. Other beaches looked average as well.
Swell is due to increase today, hittin’ the 3-4 foot heavens at exposed NE beaches. Tomorrow looks like a better option, 8 second period, ENE swell, Northerly winds early – quite strong (15-20 knots). Water is freezing…that north wind ocean current thingie is on again. Rubberup.
Feels like we haven’t had pumping waves in quite some time. Maybe I just haven’t been looking in the right places…(have been tied to Bondi lately). Here are 5 photos that make me want to go for a wave::uge
There is a little wave in the southern corner of Bondi this morning (2 foot, odd one slightly larger).
The south swell has dropped after a pretty decent session on dark last night. Winds have started to blow 15 knots from the NE and the clouds will increase their presence.
Tomorrow a new NE swell will appear and deliver pretty consistent 3-4 footers until Friday. Rain and 22 tomorrow…so enjoy the great weather right now.
Surf Dive ‘N’Ski has opened up in Bondi. They’ve taken over the old MAMBO store @ 80 Campbell Parade. Spend 100 dollars in store and you’ll score a free beach towel. See big ad next to this text for more info…
Onshore-Overcast Bondi can be a good escape from the very crowded sunny days. Crumbly 3 footers were surfable this morning. Quality was lacking but you’d still find the odd wall worth sliding. Swell is from the SE, Low tide 5:30am, high tide midday
This week is shaping up to a great week for surfing. The forecast is for some decent ENE swell all week then a new south swell on the weekend. All around the 4 foot range.
Stab is bringing back the reflecto…buy the latest Stab Mag and get a free pair of Vans sunnies – on sale now – check their website
This ENE windswell has knocked up some 3 footers at exposed beaches (e.g. The Bra). Its a windswell, very weak and flat – not ideal. Bondi was much smaller, 1-2 foot being hidden from this swell direction. The 9:26am high tide wasn’t helping things…fatness everywhere.
The current NE winds will blow hard 25 knots later tonight. Weekend weather looks unsettled, thunderstorms tomorrow, showers on Sunday (and winter like temperatures – 20). So enjoy another great beach day today before it all changes.
Weekend surf forecast, ENE swell until Saturday night (1-2 foot), then a new South Swell (small to mid range 3 foot). Not a great weekend for surfing. Nothing Special come see the Aquabumps Gallery 98 Brighton Boulevard, North Bondi NSW 2026 Telephone 9130 8371.
Amazing day. Sun is blaring. But just no waves.
This mini east swell is only trickling 1-2 footers on the middle bank of Bondi. High tide is killing it.
Other beaches in the eastern suburbs share the same fate. Maybe the Bra may have a shorey…but really it’s a swim day. Maybe a dribble wave later tonight (east). Max 26 degrees today.
Miss Bondi 2008
Yep, Miss Bondi 2008 is coming up. 30th Nov, 7th Dec and 14th Dec. They’re looking for contenders…email Monique
A little ENE swell is lurking around Sydney. Anything facing that way would have a rideable 2-3 foot wave this morning. The early morning high tide was creating some serious fatness around the place…
South facing Bondi was neglecting the swell, where as Manly, Freshie, The Bra would all have a better wave. Strong NE winds are due to blow 18 knots this afternoon. A beautiful beach day outside…
Slightly bigger tomorrow…nothing worth missing work for. Have a great day.
Not much surfing going on this morning (again). Even though the beach is now a hive of morning exercisers losing winter excess baggage, the oceans have failed to provide a rideable wave.
A distinct peak in the middle had every mal in Bondi out. Good day for beginners or just a swim. Nice warm day with 23 degrees and mainly sunshine.
At 4pm today the swell picks up, from the east. Tomorrow should see a small bump. Winds look ENE though, so may not be clean. Check ya tomorrow, uge
Not much happening around Sydney in regards to surfing. A weak windswell dribbled into the beaches producing 1-2 foot bumps. The charts are promising an east swell later this week. Saturday and Sunday should be the biggest days (8 secs, 3 foot – E swell, Northerly winds). Until then, enjoy the good weather, 24 today, 24 tomorrow, 26 Wed, 26 Thursday.
Aquabumps Daily Email
I am hearing that some bumps readers are having a few difficulties viewing this email. The pictures are bigger – yep – so be patient when downloading, but please report any extreme cases here and we’ll try and solve them. Let us know if you’re Mac, PC, Outlook, Vista, Xp, etc. We have a dedicated server soley for the daily email – to increase speeds…it should take 20 seconds to download depending on what connection you’re on.
In stark contrast to yesterday the conditions have deteriorated considerably overnight. The south change hit late and Sydney’s oceans are still agitated from it. The waves have halved to 3 footers and were very messy early… should improve as the day progresses as the grooming northerly winds kick in.
But how good was yesterday…Sydney was blessed with one of the best surf days in quite some time. Unfortunately the swell heights drop again for the weekend…unlucky office jockeys, it’s only going to be 2 foot.
Lara Bingle’s Pool party
Ashley Osborne (depicted in today’s swimmercam) and ‘Where-the-hell-are-ya’ Lara Bingle will be having a pool party tomorrow at Surf Dive ’n’ ski, Bondi Junga (12:30pm Saturday 8th November). Everyone is welcome to join in, so maybe shopping in the junction this weekend isn’t such a bad idea – surf doesn’t look flash?
Aquabumps Gallery Open
We are open all weekend 10am to 4pm as usual. I would like to say we’ve also got Lara Bingle and Ashley serving Gallery customers all day, but I would be lying. 98 Brighton Boulevard North Bondi NSW 2026 Telephone 9130 8371.
What a morning… To kick it off at 5:15am the morning sun cooked a thin cloud hanging over Ben Buckler. The colours were exceptional. Combine that with clear skies, a summery maximum of 28 degrees and a fortunate north wind/south swell mix – and we’re having one of the best days in a long time.
Bondi is 6 foot. Consistent and solid. Ok not all good, amongst the closeout junk were some crackers breaking well out the back. Have to say if I didn’t have appointments this afternoon I would be heading straight out of town – a reef or sumpin’ that is breaking better than bondi…
I shot 4 x CF card loads this morning – so I thought it deserved a web gallery on the main site. 5 pics in the email wasn’t going to cut it. If you are in any of these shots – they’re all for sale, and yep we can print + frame them ready for the pool room. Some big chunks rolling in, and a nice shot to show the grand kiddies when you once ripped.
You can email us online or you can call Mikala in the gallery 9130 8371 to order. Now before you call up asking “hey I am the guy in the black wetsuit and white board – did you get a photo of me?” (you’d be surprised how many times this happens a day) – What is in the gallery is what I have…
Tomorrow smaller – but still good.
Get wet. Not a day for the learners…saw a few girls heading to South Africa this morning in a rip. cheers, uge
Sorry about the late update. Good waves today.
A good for me way to gauge if there are good waves is that my daily shots only take 20 minutes – instead of waiting 2 hrs for a freak set.
Peaks all over the place today…4 foot this morning and at 2pm (when I last checked it) it was looking 4-5 foot with larger sets. Swell direction is dead south, which is perfect for Bondi, but our small time sand banks aren’t holding – the large sets completely closing out.
Tomorrow is looking quite special. Hit it – I would take the day off and head out of town::uge
Big day for the punters…good ole’ Melbourne cup, Giddyup. A crazy day in Australia where later on tonight you’ll see drunken young lasses running around in frocks minus a shoe, where the TABs see more money changing hands than a recent stock market crash, and a day that nobody seems to do any work. Mad Rush looks to be the favourite, but ALESSANDRO VOLTA has a much better name (and at 63 bones to one – a fiver will go a long way).
If the Melbourne Cup celebrations aren’t on the agenda today, there is a little sloppy windwave on offer. 3-4 foot of mush at Bondi. Seems to be gettin’ bigger. Later tonight might be the go and tomorrow has favourable northerly winds. Dang
I couldn’t find anything remotely interesting to shoot down at the beach this morning. I have 10 terrabytes of archival gold to show – so here is some Black and Whites from this years Mentawai tour in April.
Byron2Bondi for prostate
A 665 km ocean paddle in a two person sea kayak from Byron Bay to Bondi Beach by two slightly crazed guys intent on raising funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer along the way. The adventure will start at Byron on 20th December 08 and we hope to surf into Bondi Beach by 10th January 09 covering 35 kms a day and raising $10,000 in the process through sponsorship and sausage sizzles in towns along the coast. Money raised is going to the Australian Prostate Cancer Foundation. Check out more info and support
2pm yesterday we received a spike in swell bringing joy to the weekend warriors. Bondi had a fun (fat) 2 footer on offer until night fall.
Unfortunately the swell has dissipated overnight, its now breaking around 1-2 feet and very close to shore. Still marginally surfable but today is probably the smallest day of this week so conserve your energy.
See…your week is going to pan out like this,(I think)…sunshine will bake today to 28 degrees, swim after work, later tonight a south change will appear, clouds will thicken and a HOWLING 20-30 knot southerly will blow your washing into the neighbours.
This big blow will bring swell for tomorrow, so when you wake up it should be 4 foot but with a 7 sec interval (aka. windswell – not quality). Wednesday, Thursday, Friday look much much better with 9-10 second intervals, 4-5 foot waves at Bondi, and northerly winds for most. So this is going to be the best week of surfing we’ve had for a while now…enjoy it.
Our friends at bagladies.com.au are giving 10 Sandbags to the first 10 customers this week in the gallery (as in customers that buy stuff – not just walk in the door).
