This time of year is really odd around Bondi. It is summer, sunny and epic down the beach but it’s also empty. See…everyone is starting to take off for their Christmas bashes and the streets are really quite empty. I saw 5 vacant car spaces on Gould Street in a row! Whoa. The beach this morning was eerily quiet.
Whilst the beach was quiet, its the busiest week of the year in our Aquabumps Gallery. We get asked all kinds of stuff at this time of year. To be time efficient here’s some commonly asked questions in our shop:
“I need a gift, anything from your store, need it now…help me…what can I get” Answer: we have so much in stock (still) – just rock into the gallery right now and walk away with something. Plenty of parking out front. If you don’t live in Sydney how about our latest 280 page, A3 book. Order before 3pm today and we will NEXT DAY POST it to you. Check these postal times here and you will be able see delivery times for your postcode. In most cases you will have it in your grubby little hands tomorrow, nationwide. Order right now
“I’ve been through your million photo catalogue and not getting anywhere closer to a decision for a gift..help me” Answer: Gift cards is your salvation…gift cards. Virtual cards are emailed and done within a hour or so. Physical cards posted same day.
“My fella rips, can I pay you to take photos of him?” Answer: No sorry. It’s easy. Have a crack.
“I know Christmas is days away, but can I get an artwork framed and shipped to Russia in time for 25th Dec?” Answer: Sure can. We just have to fly our framing team to Russia overnight. We can make frames mid flight and have them to you Chrissy day. It could cost between $20k and $30k. In all seriousness we can do unframed prints within 24 hours and they are best for shipping.
“Are you open Christmas Day or Boxing Day?” Answer: nope. Gone surfing.
“Do you open late nights like Westfields” Answer: Um. No. 10-6 daily.
“What deals you got going?” Answer: We are currently running a Facebook competition where you can win one of our largest artworks valued at $2,950. All you have to do is click this link and enter the comp online. Once you’ve completed the comp a very, very special deal will be revealed on our 1st book, A Day At Bondi.

The southerly was ripping shreds off Sydney this morning. Bondi was an onshore mess and the lack of human activity was quite surprising for this time of year.
The sun is out but the temps are much cooler. It is going to be onshore until Sunday – but – by then the swell would have dissipated.
Seeing the end of year is near and we are getting all nostalgic and all…here’s 11 photos below I’ve shot this year that I enjoy looking at. That I’m proud of… I am keen to know what images from Aquabumps you like most so we’re running a competition…yes, win stuff. We are giving away the largest framed print we do, 1.7m x 1.2m valued at $2,950 of your favourite Aquabumps image. Just go here…tell us your favourite beach and why…then share your favourite ‘Bumps image and hopefully win!
Our Gallery is open all weekend and has plenty of artwork stock for all your Christmas shopping needs. Drop in, 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026 Telephone 02 9130 7788. Lost?

There’s swell and very little wind, usually a great combo…but it wasn’t exactly cranking this morning down the beach.
Bondi was pretty grey and uncrowded. Think the Christmas parties are taking their toll on the early risers. I saw waves around 2-3 foot today. Hopefully as the day progresses the wonk will settle.
Here’s a little gift idea for those that live in Sydney. Buy one of our bassike x Aquabumps collab tees and a small A4 mounted print of your choice for only $100 clams (normally $125). Available ONLY in our Bondi Gallery only (151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW Telephone 02 9130 7788) Lost?
The southerly was roaring through Sydney tossing tumbleweed down the streets. Perfect conditions for a select group of French windsurfers (OK and one Spaniard) to hit Bondi with the windsurfing contraptions.
Surfing is out of the question – that board will blow right out of your little hands before you even get to the shoreline. Wait until this howl subsides.
It’s been such a sad week in Sydney. Digesting what went down in the city ain’t easy for us all. Condolences to the Johnson and Dawson families. You’re in our thoughts.
Peace :: uge
The NNE winds were up very early this morning. It was about 15 knots worth. The wind also knocked up a little bit of wind swell overnight…it’s very weak and irregular, but surfable at NE magnets (i.e. not Bondi).
Tomorrows conditions better suit Bondi with a switch to south swell and south winds. Weather is looking very unsettled.
Many of you are probably freaking out with your Christmas shopping. We have a pile of books that we can send in today’s post, order here.
Let’s not muck around. The waves are so good at the moment.
In fact…the surf in Sydney has been really good for the past 48 hours. Lucky aren’t we? I love these strong East swells – it just feeds into everywhere. Great for spreading the crowd.
I saw some sets around 3-4 foot this morning as they pounded me whilst fighting an aggressive rip at Maroubra (and lost the battle).
To top it all off it’s a perfectly sunny, warm day. Doesn’t get any better.
P.S. what on earth is going on in the city right now!
The ocean is pretty wild this morning. Bondi was 6-8 feet and pounding. I really hope these rogue currents rearrange our sand bank situation.
I am pretty sure it’s big enough for the harbour to be breaking. It would probably be waist high around there. Bondi wasn’t surfable. Not unless you like paddling. Lots of paddling.
It will all calm down on Sunday and there should be some fun waves everywhere in Sydney. I’m gettin’ psyched.
This weekend is traditionally a huge one in our Bondi Gallery. On Sunday our 1st Christmas order deadline closes. We are open 10am to 6pm all weekend at 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026 Telephone 02 9130 7788 if you have any questions about timings, what frame goes with what -we’re here to help. The bassike x Aquabumps print is a great gift idea, we’ve got 10 in stock framed ready to go.
After thousands of mornings of shooting Bondi Beach I crave new angles. I think about it all the time. I want to show you something new.
I’ve been working on new contraptions that enable me to get to places previously not achievable. It’s still early days. Patent pending.
The surf is tiny and the water is brilliantly warm. This morning was calm but a rogue storm is about hit and shake down this town.
100foxes is giving you the chance to WIN this Christmas! Simply make a gift purchase at 100foxes.com by 15th December 2015. The prize is an awesome custom surfboard worth $600 from DISRUPT surfboards. Read more about the comp.
Bokeh pronounced BOH-kay is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens.
I’m a big fan of Bokeh and have been shooting wide open for years now in the water. Can’t do that on a fisheye. Leave that to Clarkie baby.
Waves are tiny and the light was exquisite for about 1 hour. That’s all. As you were.
Christmas shopping mayhem is in full effect – I’m a massive online shopper…probably like you. We ship anything – anywhere…and this can all be done before Chrissy. True. Order online right now before our production deadlines kick in or contact our sales team on 02 9130 7788 right now.
The onshore winds chewed up the remnants of the NE swell this morning. It looked real messy but fun all at the same time.

Today’s update comes from 500 feet above Sydney Harbour. I had a little early morning job flying around in the bird. We live in an incredible city surrounded by water in every direction.
The 331 metre Voyager of the Seas slid into Circular Quay at 6:30am. This mobile city even has a stationary wave machine on rear deck. Yep, a flow rider.
Only days until Chrissy…If you want to order unframed prints from the Aquabumps Gallery and frame them yourself – can do. This is our recommendation for overseas customers (cheapest freight). We can get the print done in 1-2 days at the moment with our in-house print facility then fast post it directly to you (Globally). Order online now or come to the Aquabumps Gallery 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW Telephone 02 9130 7788
Few waves this morning. Northern Beaches is the go…2-3 foot and from the North.
P.S. To clarify, these are not shot from a drone. I repeat. No drone.
G’day. From humble, grey beginnings today has transformed into a magic day.
Currently 27 and sunny I’d suggest heading to the beach – now – before it morphs again into thunderstorms…like the past few days.
Quite unpredictable weather at the moment.
The surf is a flop. NE micro swell backing out knee high waves.
I had some fun shooting close ups portraits of the shorey.
This time of year is really good fun in the Aquabumps Gallery. So many people flowing through the doors from all over the world. Just remember if you want to give someone framed artwork for Christmas our order deadlines are looming :
Picking up from the Bondi Gallery on the 20/21 Dec? You must have your order to us by Sunday 14th Dec
Picking up from the Bondi Gallery on Christmas Eve 24th Dec? You must have your order to us by Wednesday 16th Dec

Today we have a guest photographer, my grom Jet.
He’s only 3 years old but has probably spent more time around photography than most fully grown humans.
He’s traveled the world…Hawaii, Indo, Cook Islands, Manly.
Jet’s a wild man behind the lens…adopting the commonly used “SPRAY AND PRAY” technique. This unique technique involves holding down the shoot button for lengthy periods of time whilst waving around the lens, hoping he’d captured something interesting. It’s a bit like the movie Scarface where Al Pacino goes mad shooting in all directions.
Well…the little fella shot around 64 gig this morning with thousands of frames. That’s why this update is a little late…so many to sift through! He’s not mastered the computer yet – that’s the next step.
Soon you will find this cheeky little manic shooting in the water…soon.
The surf is non-existent. She’s hell stormy as well. A good day to do some work.
Kappa has done it again (Think The Wine Shop, Panama House, Corner House). His latest venue The Bondi Bowling Club on Warner’s Avenue, Bondi Beach. More
P.S. If you want to order artwork from the gallery to give to someone, the time is now! Christmas orders closing shortly. Call 02 9130 7788 or visit the fine art catalogue online
I’m getting into this body surf thing. Hours of fun. Especially when the water and weather are this good.
Waves are small. Swell is from the NE and not doing much.
Today I visited my old home, Tamarama. I lived there for 8 years right on the beach and love the joint. Shame it doesn’t break more often.
A Tamarama local, Shaun Greenblo, has started a new website/service that uses a buddy system to find anything in the world and get it shipped to you…see what I mean. Good for stuff from The States!
Have a great day – hit the beach for sure, :: uge
With all that NE wind last night it’s no surprise that these two things have happened:
We have NE swell in town, not suited to south facing Bondi
The water temperature has dropped
There was a fun shorey at Bondi. Love it when it’s angry and unloading in 6 inches of sand. Good for a body surf.
later :: uge
1st day of summer today.
Look outside, it’s a cracker. Waves too. South swell now, NE swell for the rest of the week. Perhaps some thunderstorms later today. All in all – a very good day to be outside.
Those fishing boats are coming in really close. Plenty of fish in the bay. Large pods of dolphins, seals…the works…even a few shark alarms to boot! Eyes open.
Have a great day :: uge
