These 4 foot swells don’t hang around long at the moment. Friday was big, Saturday was small (but fun), Sunday was big and now today is tiny. Waves are breaking around your knee caps to belt line. But that’s about it. Of course it’s clear skies, sunny and 28 today. Just like every day.
Small conditions until Friday. That’s about all you need to know.

After a long flat spell we now have waves. No lie. Phew. Thanks Hui. The SSE swell has kicked in strong and Bondi was closing out at 7am (std). Get in the car and drive away from Bondi – you’ll score for sure!
Winds are perfectly WSW offshore, the sunshine is out and today will cook up to 23 degrees. Water temp is around 18ish (steamer).
Aquabumps reader Caroline Quaine is raising money for her Surf Sling idea via Pozible. The Sling helps kids carry their boards down the beach as their little arms can’t do the full rail to rail wrap yet. If you like the idea, contribute to see the idea come to fruition.
I also ask you (insert beg) to sponsor our SURF AID CUP team. The Aquabumps Shredders are the defending champs and we’ve been training all year for this event. In fact its the only surf comp I’ve ever won – and we’re going to do it all again this year. So dig deep, splash some green on our donations page.
Have a great weekend. South swell due Saturday and Sunday – so you will be surfing.

I like today. Not for its surfing prowess as there are NO waves. More for its warmth and clear skies. It’s a corker and it’s gonna hit 30.
Tools down. Hit the beach. You deserve it.
Swell should arrive tomorrow. South. Boom.

Mmm feels like summer doesn’t it? (27)
The waves are flat and the water is warm. You must go for a dip.
I owe you an apology. Yesterday we promoted a Herringbone board giveaway which had expired, goneski…done. Yep, after we contacted our buddies at Herringbone before going live and got the green light, they forgot they had already drawn the prize! (someone at H-Bone HQ must have had a big weekend). No harm done…I’m slapping myself as I write this now and the work experience kids at both businesses have been sacked. I’m sorry. In exchange I give you permission to take off from work right now and go for a salubrious swim down the beach. That will cheer you all up.
Swell comes Friday. Work on your base tan until then.
The crazy warm weather continues and a huge crowd down the beach at 6am working on their summer rigs. Busiest morning of the year I reckon. 30 degrees today with strong NW winds = bad for fires.
The surf is dismal. Really small stuff, good for beginners or logging. I don’t think you will surf anything decent until Friday when a new south swell arrives.
If you’re like me and like black cars, ok with a lil’ bling on the rim, you may like these two whips that I’ve chucked on ebay for a fast sale lookie lookie. No interest? Ok, how about checking out the world’s richest photography prize ($120,000) – its called the The Hamdan International Photography Award. Show me.

Goedemorgen! OK, it’s actually ‘afternoon as Aquabumps headquarters has been a little busy.
The swell has slipped a few gears and Maroubra had a small shorey worth slaying. Not much else seemed up to scratch.
The wind is hooooowwling, 30 knots of W/SW and it’s a nice day outside.
Might be a wave at Bondi tomorrow, not much on Sunday.
For Pete’s Sake! On Friday 4th of October (5pm) there is a Fundraiser for Pete Conroy, who broke his neck in a surfing accident at North Bondi and is now wheel chair bound. The event will be held at the North Bondi Golf Club. It’s free event and anyone is welcome. There will be auctions, raffles etc. more info
There is a massive, and I am talking huge swell about to hit W.A. next Tuesday. I am talking 17.5 seconds, 17-18 foot beast. I reckon start surfing it down at Margs and follow it all the way to Indonesia. Hell men – red alert! Chart
I know I probably shouldn’t use Aquabumps for personal reasons, I’m slapping myself as I write this, but the near new Aquabumps Gallery van is on eBay, if you are in the market for a slick Black Volkswagen Transporter go here.
Have a fantastic weekend :: u g e
Here’s the vitals of today. It’s a good one to be outside and a bonus to be at the beach.
2-3ft east swell. 12 knots of WSW wind. Hell fat high tide at 7:50am. Low at 2pm.
I drove around all the Eastern beaches and they were all suffering under high-tide-itis. Tamarama had the wonkiest wave I’ve ever seen and Bondi was pretty fluffy. By the time you get this email the lower tide will reveal goodness. Seeing it’s an East swell, which effectively enters most beaches you’ll find something at your local.
Taj Burrow just won Hurley Pro at Trestles and Mick Fanning is leading the world tour rankings. Go Aussies.

With all this north swell in town I felt compelled to shoot something different, something more exposed. I ventured over the ditch and ended up in Manly. Manly loves a bit of north swell. Did you know that Manly was named after the indigenous people that lived there? Captain Arthur Phillip said the “”their confidence and manly behaviour made me give the name of Manly”.
Manly is a nice place. It’s kinda same-same but different to Bondi. Once upon a time I lived there. The surf crowds are the same, hectic. The pace does seem to be a tad slower. They have 14,000 residents where Bondi only has 10,000 (but probably in half the space). Manly’s 17 km’s from the city which makes it feel a little bit holiday townish. The people are friendly and today they had the same chubby, soft waves that we experience in Bondi.
Swell is dropping, but there are some decent scraps left. It’s a little weak being a short period windswell.

Have a nice afternoon : : u g e
Oh man it blew last night. It blew so hard that balconies are collapsing in Bondi (read news).
What a storm hey? She brewed up some beefy swell for this morning though. Bondi had waves in the 3-5 foot range with a new ENE swell. Fortunately the winds have passed and now it’s time to surf. Biggest day in a long, long time. Yes, it’s exciting.
The winds were NW this morning, perfect direction for airs, even though I can’t even get close to doing ‘em.
See you tomorrow :: u g e
Don’t be sad about those grey skies. It’s those grey skies and low pressure systems that create waves.
The swell has arrived and Bondi was fun yesterday/today. So fun. I can’t believe we are surfing waves that break above our heads! Let’s party. It’s been a while.
Today was relatively uncrowded at Bondeye – being a Monday. I’d say head high with NE winds. Those NE winds are going to blow hard this afternoon though (30 knots).
Should be waves for most of this week.
Other random, but (maybe) interesting things :
North Bondi Italian (NBi) is for sale. Looks like the Empire is collapsing in rough waters. End of an era down there. SMH article But hey Tavoli, China Doll, Harris Farm, Messina are all opening up in the new Boehme on Hall Street.
Our buddies at David Carr Security will give Aquabumps readers $50 off lock work if you spend over $200. Call ’em 9389 8543 – they recently decked out my gallery and did great work with CCT cameras, alarms and locks. I can even watch you shop in the gallery when I am in Hawaii! (creepy – I know)

Today we should tick over 90,000 Facebook crew and 25,000 Insty followers. Not sure where you all came from, but thanks for stopping by.

Very different down there today.
Less sun, colder, some rain, more antics, plenty of wind with pretty average surf. (But at least there is surf)
Towards North Bondi had a few…South End looked horrible.
Have a great weekend. Rain forecasted for tomorrow, Sunday looks nicer. Waves will be OK for both days.
: : u g e
The sand banks at Bondi have reached an all-time low vrtually making it unsurfable. We need a serious storm to change the setup. I noticed someone has proactively hired a bulldozer to move sand around – that’s a start but nothing beats a raging north storm to push all the sand into our corner.
A new ground swell has arrived as forecasted, we just need a reef for it to break on – something, anything.
It’s a beautiful day outside – just like the past 3 months. 23 degrees forecasted but it feels a lot warmer.
Today is national RUOK day. RUOK is a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to encouraging all people to regularly and meaningfully ask ‘are you ok?’ to support those struggling with life. Good to see the local surf community got right behind it. More Info
Are you ok?

Bush fires always seem to create interesting sunrises. There’s stuff in the air from smoke that illuminates at the right times of day. Bondi was looking it’s best at 5:40am. Hope you saw it.
The waves were OK. Bigger than micro-yesterday. Most waves were closing out on shallow straight banks but worthy of a shred. I am hoping it will get bigger later today. They say tomorrow might even be head high. That would be nice – wouldn’t it?
Those 13 surfboard auctions that I have on Ebay are closing today and tomorrow. Some real bargains in there to be had…see all auctions

New government, new week, new (wind) swell and new season. It’s all changing right here.
The sun was up super early and so was the heat. 22 degrees when I woke at 5 sumpin’ o’clock.
There is some wind chop around from the north that you can ‘surf’. But it’s very small. You’ll need the skills of a pro surfer to make it look good.

It’s nearly 30 degrees outside as I write this and I work across the road from Bondi Beach. Enough desk jockey time…
Out : : u g e
There is a little wave on offer down at Bondeye. It’s not hot, but rideable.
It is going to be 24 degrees today.
Swell should increase this afternoon and be OK for most of this week. Finally after weeks of dribbles.
It’s Monday, I know you are busy…so this email is very short.

At 5:50am it was shaping up quite nicely. Glassy conditions, small East swell and colours sprayed over the Buckler. Real pretty huh?
By about 6:30am a small south change hit, messing the surf up and the skies filled grey. It’s now 11:38am as I write this and I can see sunshine baking through all windows.
Tools down, hit the beach for a swim. Some very high temperatures coming, 28 on Monday! What tha!
Don’t forget in tomorrow’s big election to vote for the Aquabumps Party. Our policies include sand pumping from Marks park to create a ‘Super Bank’ @ Bondi. Prison sentences for dropping in and disposing ciggie butts on the beach. Faster NBN rollout so we can show you bigger pics every morning. Early retirement at age 40 so we can all spend more time down the beach. Oh and more importantly I surf a hell of a lot better than Tony Abbott!

After what feels like eternity we’ve finally got surf to talk about.
The swell drought has broken with fresh waist to shoulder high waves this morning.
The surf is trickling in from the East so beaches facing that way will attract more (i.e. not south facing Bondi)
The wind is a gentle 7 knots NW (clean conditions). The day is a stunner. Ridiculously good down there. The tide is going out and the water temp. is a comfortable 17-18 degrees. All that means a good beach day for those lucky enough not to be chained to an office cubicle.
Local long boarder and fellow lensman Chris Prestige shoots a pretty damn fine portrait/wedding. People ask me all the time for local shooters who do this kind of work – well, here he is!

Today is just like yesterday. Same Same. Sunny, warm, immaculate, glassy and FLAT. Ok, maybe a wave for the log that is breaking around your shins to your belt.
Yesterday I was lucky enough to go flying above Bondi in ‘The Bird’. Oh boy, the colours up there were incredible. The water clarity is so good at the moment.
If you haven’t read White Horses, you should. It’s a great mag for ocean/surf lovers. On Jun 1, 2013 68 photographers and 46 writers captured their day. See the results in this issue.
The Responsible Runners are a good bunch of people that pick up all the rubbish on Bondi Beach after the crowds have gone. They deserve a round of applause for their efforts. Next week they are celebrating over 50,000 cigarettes and 150,000 pieces of rubbish picked up from Bondi over the last 12 months. Join em at the North Bondi RSL on Thursday 12th more info

The ocean lacks energy and the sky is 100% clear. Damn this weather is mighty fine. Go outdoors – it’s just too good and those damn election TV commercials will make you lose your mind. (How bad are they?)
Your next surf will be this weekend when a south swell arrives, other than that…grab the log and catch some 1 footers.
Do you know we have world class theatre right here in Bondi at the Pavilion? It’s not all reef oil and lattes ya know. Tamarama Rock Surfers (TRS) are an Indi writing theatre company based on the beach. “EMPIRE: Terror on the High Seas” is currently playing until September 28. Support your local. Half price tickets for Aquabumps readers
It’s official, my campaign to get on the world surfing tour is over. This photography thing and a busy life is keeping me from surfing 4 hours a day so I am selling 13 surfboards. Some are new and never touched water, some have been ridden 2-3 times…ok, and a couple of bushies in there as well. They are all for sale on ebay, I’ll donate a percentage of profits to SurfAid. All boards are at the gallery if you’d like a preview before bidding on ebay. I will not sell out of ebay. See all 13 boards for sale.

Today we enter into Spring. True. I know most of you probably feel like that happened a few months ago. But it is here now, and looking real pretty.
Today is a cracker. Go outside. Bask.
Surf – nope. Still nothing. Later this week you will see some swell, but most days of this week will be pancakes.
I found a tiny rip bowl at South Bondi this morning. The banks are horrible at the moment. We need a grand storm to whip them into shape.
The largest newspaper in Chile did an article on Aquabumps. It’s in Spanish so I can’t understand a word of it – hopefully they didn’t make me out to be a chump.
