I know, I know…you’re all a little bit over this rainy weather. Think of your garden – it’s lovin’ it. Look at your car – it never looked so good (sans salt spray).
The good news is that there’s a few waves around of the 3 foot variety. There is 1 fun bank at Bondi with not many people on it. But let’s face it, it’s not really beach weather and better suited to hard work.
Other things to do on a rainy day:
Donate to the Red Cross to help the Nepalese Earthquake victims (please do this now)
Buy your ma her Mother’s Day gift (it’s May 10). C’mon, she deserves a bit more than a 6 pack. How about a Aquabumps book or small sunrise frame from our gallery $150?

Some real surfing talent down at Bondi this morning. Our 3 footers drew out all the local shredders and some big wave legends. Not many other places would be breaking today. Bondi had fun ones.
Raining now…and it looks to be pretty stormy over the next few days.
On the 30th April, Thursday at the Bucket List Jack McCoy will be screening ‘The Green Iguana’ and ‘Kong’s Island’ from 6:30pm. Come on down…more
Nice surfing conditions down at Bondi Beach this morning. The huge crowd tells me you already knew that…right?
Bondi loves a good 3-4 foot South swell. Got some dreamy little banks too. Unfortunately if you missed the morning session it’s all over – the southerly is now in and blowing 16 knots. It’s a junk yard out there (12:40pm).
Raining tomorrow. Bring the washing in.
I want you to go outside, now…and soak up the sunshine. Feels good doesn’t it? Remember that feeling…because from Wednesday another storm will hit Sydney. Not the same intensity as last week, but plenty of rain from Wednesday to Saturday. So get on the roof, fix the holes, sit in the park or maybe even surf some of the 3-4 footers on offer this morning in Sydney. How good is Autumn? warm water, good light and waves out front.
We have an army of machines on our beach at the moment. They seem to be doing some good for our banks right now. Keep it up fellas.
Always after big storms there is a mega sunrise. Today, 6:15am Sydney blew up with colour – quite the change from the rest of the week.
Bondi Beach is currently taken over by the machines. All manner of sand moving machinery is cleaning up the beach.
To top it off, nice clean 3 footers on offer – hit it! The swell is ESE so many beaches in Sydney will have fun waves.
Adriano just won Margies over Jon Jon. The Brazilians are on fire!
All back to normal today. The winds have finally turned offshore and the downpours stopped. Nice isn’t it?
After such a violent storm I thought we’d have swell for days…no such luck. It’s on a rapid decline and only 3-4 foot from the SE.
I went for a drive to shoot some dirty tubes down at The Cape. Some thick ones…but was dropping fast.
Enjoy the outdoors again! :: uge
Bondi used to be one huge sand dune in the 1800’s. The mega dune used to extend from the beach all the way back to Rose Bay. Check out this photograph in 1875 if you don’t believe me. Well…over the past 48 hours nature has been trying to return Bondi to it’s original condition. The whole town has been sand blasted and dunes set up all along the front in the car park. It’s pretty amazing. That wind and rain is pretty amazing. Thankfully as I write this (1:38pm) it seems the raging storm has dropped a few gears. It’s safe to go outside…now…but wow…what crazy storm.
The swell is rogue but no where as big as yesterday. Sydney Harbour is still ‘breaking’ but really it’s just a novelty and something interesting to do on these rainy days. When the ocean cleans up there is going to be fun waves around town. All these sand movements has gotta form something interesting for us.
Hey look out the window – I just saw sunlight! Check out the damage that has been caused in NSW by our beastie storm.
Is this the fifty year storm that Bodhi has been banging on about? Sure feels like it. It is mental outside with gale force winds and record breaking precipitation. C’mon admit it…you love it. Everyone gets all excited about a radical storm.
The Sydney harbour even has waves today. Yes, the harbour inside the heads. Doesn’t happen often but it’s happening now. OK, it’s not cranking and the waves are so fat you can barely ride them…but it is breaking. Pure novelty.
Big swell in town and when this winds fades there is gunna be some surfing to be done. In the meantime watch out for breaking trees, sand dunes in the Bondi carpark (bring 4wd) and wild SULOS.
Are you all wet? Hard not to be. It’s pouring outside. It is going to be like this for a couple of days so settle in.
Good news is that this storm is going to bring a monster swell mid week.
Tomorrow is going to hooooowwwl. I am talking 40 knots for 24 hours. That will rip a few roofs off and take your Sulo bin for a ride down the end of the road.
These stormy days are a perfect time for me to go through terabytes of recent trips. Let’s go to Hawaii…just for a couple of minutes…grab a cuppa.
Good morning. Not the best beach day – waves were a crumbly 2 foot and rain scared off most people. A great day to crank out some work.
This weekend will host tiny surf suitable for beginners. Big swell will arrive on Sunday night setting up next week for a few waves.
The Drug Aware Margaret River Masters is on right now at The Box. How’s some of those slabs! Watch live now
The weekend is going to be wet – come see us in the Aquabumps Gallery if you’re looking for something to do…151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach.
What a good looking day huh? Just like summer. Hit the beach.
There’s waves…2-3 footers around Bondi and super clean offshores.
If you don’t mind hunting around, climbing cliffs and surfing sharky waters – you’ll find isolated tubes today (somewhere close to Sydney).
The surf is pumping at Margies and the tour stop #3 just kicked off at man-eating ‘Box’. You must watch this.
Oh boy the waves have been good. It’s dropped a lot overnight but still plenty of fun to be had.
Clean offshores, WNW at 5 knots with 2-3 foot of south swell. A good combo.
So many places would be lighting up today…most of them are a minimum 3-4 hours drive away from here. Every time I book a day of meetings you can be assured 6 foot pumping south swell! Yes give me a tissue…
If you’re reading this you really should get outside and go for a drive – even if it’s to enjoy this deluxe Autumn day. The swell is clean and chunky. Bondi was predominately closing out. Bronte, Tama and the Bra are all missing the south swell. Hit it.
There is a long period solid south swell about to hit Sydney. It should be here any minute now. I would expect it to go from 2-3 foot to 6 foot by sun down. Good huh?
This morning it was cleaner (sans wind) but smaller. Right now (12:30pm) it looks onshore and junkie, yet bigger.
Tomorrow will host large surf…nothing like what they’re going to get at the Margaret River Drug Aware Pro – which will kick off later this week. I can’t wait to see what the top 36 surfers in the world do with big Margies. Be a nice contrast from the conditions of the 1st 2 tour events.
You all know I love Hawaii. Well our buddies at SPEEDO are giving away a family holiday to Hawaii. I’m torkin’ flights’n’accommodation – the lot. How could you not click on this link.

I never kinda got surfing the North end of Bondi. It’s a weird ‘wave’. In large surf conditions, like today, it’s surfable – but definitely not awesome. A rapid rip sucks out along the kiddie pool making the waves peak…but many close out. Occasionally it tubes. Rare though. A few times I have seen it connect from the point at Ben Buckler all the way to the beach – which is 250 metres. But that’s super rare and you have to lie down on your board to make it through the middle fat bit.
The surf should clean up at the day progresses. It may get good at South Bondi really late. Looks like a grey weekend and cooler temps.
I found the beach a little uninspiring this morning so I drifted inland to the bohemian suburb of Surry Hills, only a few k’s away. That’s the good thing about living in Bondi we’re so close to the city.
Surry Hills was dead quiet at 6am. Like a ghost town. Love all the old houses and maze of back alleys.
The surf is 4 foot and junkie. Should clean up…tomorrow should be fun. Hope you’re watching the Mick Fanning Vs Adriano De Souza final at Bells which is on right now.
Today it’s just not happening down the beach. The waves have thinned out into near flatness. The sunrise tried to put something on…a blanket of thick storm clouds shut that down.
There was a chill in the air. Can feel it can’t ya? It’s confusing what to wear in the changing seasons.
Surfers – sit tight, big south swell hitting tomorrow.
OK, call off the man hunt. I am here…alive and well. Sorry about my radio silence over the past 10 days. I went off grid. No cameras, technology, social media or selfie sticks. I surfed and enjoyed moments without thinking F8, 400mm or ISO250…I’m now recharged with fresh eyes and have a decent sun tan. My time off reminded me that I really like surfing – and I love surfing alone! I forgot how good country NSW waves can get!
Thanks for all the messages and phone calls of concerns. You guys crack me up. So here’s your daily fix…Bondi at 1-2 foot and in full autumn magic mode.
