Tropical Speedways

A new swell’s landed in our Laamu Atoll and we were up early, hunting reef passes. It’s not just about swell angle or wind here—it’s the current that’ll get you. When these massive lagoons fill or drain, the sweep is wild. Paddle out at the wrong time and you’re halfway to Sri Lanka.

We found a clean corner— strong offshore, lining up, no one out. Just us and a couple of turtles. The waves here are fast and hollow, proper reef runners. Not big (3ft-4ft), but playful and punchy. A charter boat drifted by, but that was it for the crowd.

The air’s pushing 33, nights hover around 28, and the lagoon hit 31 yesterday. Tropical wax only, or you’ll be slipping all over the joint.

Laamu delivers. No hustle, no stress—just speed, reef, and warm blue water.
