Merry Xmas.Merry Christmas to you all and may 2007 be a cracker year full of good swells.
Sydney continues to have freaky cool weather and 1-2 foot surf (yawn)…so let’s not talk about that as its depressing. Over here in Western Australia it’s a heat wave with crystal clear water! (um but still no waves)
You may be fooled in thinking that this website was run by one punter – some weird guy that you can’t pronounce is nickname (uge – yooj -ooggie something like that). Nope. There is a team of people who generously give their time for free and really make it happen. As Aquabumps runs into its 8th year with well over 20,000 daily readers all over the globe, I would like to thank a whole bunch of people…
Thanks.Firstly thanks Jamie Verco and Vanessa Rowe who give ridiculous amounts of time for not a cracker. Even though Jamie said back in 1998 that my idea of a surf photo site ‘ain’t gonna work mate…stick to working at hungry jacks’ – eat that. Ness & Jamie you’re champions and your guidance and support is invaluable.
Aquabumps Gallery staff Linda, George, K-T white doggie, La Barb, My Ma, Maddog, Jo. Thanks – you all do some much. Mentors: Jason Neely, Damo Fuller, Mike Kean, Andrew Cuccurullo, Zac Zavos (genius). Thanks. Mischee me bookie. Thanks. Kelvin Khoo for techo support. Chibby for humor control. Thirsty Kirsty Gow Gates for hookups. Aquatech boys for my housings. Canon for their future sponsorship in 2007 (please.beg.c’mon) The Miss Bondis for looking good as always. All the advertisers on the site. Deb for organizing all my flights. Foxy. Kylie for my first digi cam. Eclipse for allowing me to use one of the 1st bulk emailers in the land (for free). Carl Woodie for programming wizardry. Damian Simpkins. Coopers beer. Richard from Underwater Australia. Shuvs, for endlessly puttin’ the word out there. Tim Kelley the financial genius. Telstra BigPond for being a hot advertiser. Tengirri for Mentawai tours. All the people that have purchased prints from the gallery. All the loyal readers. thanks for puttin’ up with my bad grammar. Thanks for the thousands of emails of encouragement. Big thanks.
2007.Big plans for 2007 – you’ll see…have a safe holiday ::uge (that is pronounced yooj and is short for Eugene – just had to clarify that).
good cracker.Well what do ya know… We’ve got waves today. They’re not perfect. But when you’ve been wondering around in the desert for the past few weeks and come across a cracker – that cracker will be the best damn cracker you’ve ever had.
Bondi had waves breaking around 3 foot. Some had a wall. Some porked out (std). Some had heaps of morning sickness wonk. All in all its fun. Swell is from the East and has a period of 7 (which ain’t great). Winds are currently onshore with ENE…but will swing more to the NE this afternoon (it will clean up). High tide 09:23 low tide 16:11. max 23 today with a chance of a thunderstorm later. Perfectly sunny right now…
loaded. Its probably you’re second last day at work at everyone is out getting loaded at chrissy lunches. Good time to sneak off…grab the board…and paddle into a couple.
shopping.I don’t like shopping at the best of times. Christmas time is 10 times worse. So an idea would be to come down to the Aquabumps Gallery over the next few days and get a present for everyone. Stock is in. Small white wooden frames start at $180…and some small unframed at $35. Open until 7pm tonight. All weekend 10am to 4pm. >View gallery images | >Gallery Info
She’s about to blow 20 knots from the south. That’ll put an end to the joy weather of late. It will also bring a new swell. Should be 3-4 foot by the afternoon flanked with onshore winds. This morning was real small weak stuff. (1 – 2 foot). Small period wash not really worth it. Thursday morning should be ok if the wind kicks around to the NE. Until then, enjoy the bad weather and keep dry cause she’s gonna rain too::uge
There’s a couple of nice lil’ peaks out there this morning. Not too shabby at all. Perfectly sunny, clear water and the occasional 3 footers rockin’ in. Long waits in between sets. Add northerly winds and you’ve got yourself a pretty good day ahead. High tide 07:21, low tide 14:02. The groms were frothing this morning…all over it. Real strong rip in the south…one of the worst…backpackers are going to end up in Manly.
Swell picks up for Wednesday this week, flanked by onshore winds. Best day of the week is today weatherwise…back to work chinas::uge
Hobbies. My mate Dave has a shrink. His shrink reckons he needs more hobbies. Why? ’cause when the surf gets this baaaaad, he gets nervous twitches and seriously needs to find something else to do. The surf is baaad today. Real baaad. Not only is it overcast & wet but its not even breaking. So if you were delusional and wanted to paddle out, you’d have the joint to yourself…well maybe with some nice skanky run off pollution…you won’t be catching too many waves thats for sure. Bit chilly as well with max of 20 degrees. Nothing worth shooting this morning – so I thought some archival Indonesian gold would cheer you up and keep you going in between swells…2ft all weekend…wet…eeck.
Community.Garden.My other talented mates Damo (Fuller) and Fern have been busy tigers putting together a spectacular exhibition called “ Community Garden ”. You really need to see it. Its like stuff you’ve not seen before…true…illustrations, etchings, jewelry. They have a gallery next door to JEDS on 96 Glenarye Street Bondi – Saturday and Sunday 11am till 4pm. See website
Bondi is famous for the big sunny wearing, made up, glamour morning joggers…all polished with matching trackies, big ear rings and a poodle boot…its all about the "be healthy" revolution kids. Well not this morning…plenty taking this festive season very seriously…
From what started as an overcast sloppy day, it’s sure fining up into a cracker. Waves are small 2 – 3 foot with a light offshore (SW). It’s still bumpy, fat and lacking decent grunt. But hey…with a forecast of 30 sizzlers and clear skies – best make your way down the beach.
Forecast is still for average sub-3 footers for the next few days. Weekend looks to be a wet one, so better enjoy it today! Later chinas::uge
Relief.About time… Some decent little waves worth riding this morning. It’s far from perfect with lots of bump…but hey at least there’s couple little pockets to get you going. The southerly winds have now subsided…and the swell is starting to fade. You’ll find waves up around head high on sets…so. um…surf. Winds will swing NE much later today and it will only be 24 degrees. Best get ’em whilst they’re around as there still isn’t much goodness in the forecast for the next 5 days…high tide 15:15 low tide 09:15 Tomorrow is the day with 31 degrees…yeeooow.
Soft-OnWhat is a soft-on? Now that is a very good question. Its 50 crew down at north bondi on Sat 16th for a coolite comp. So whip out that grommie foamie and see if you’ve got what it takes to be a foamie flag shredder. Registration: Available on the day from [email protected] Knoll, North Bondi. Check bondisofton.blogspot.com and bring beer.
volatile. What? 30 sizzles yesterday, top of 19 degrees today and then forecast for 31 on Thursday? Now that’s a bit freaky. The South change yesterday brought rain, wind and 4 foot of mush. Definitely forget surfing today. It seems like ages since Sydney has cranked…winds swing NE Wed arvo. Onshore until then.
[email protected] today’s pictures come from Guy Harden whose currently standing on the shores of the infamous PIPELINE, Hawaii . This time every year Hawaii turns it on for the top 44 surfers in the world as round two of RIP CURLS Pipeline master was held. Our gun aussies in fine form – Taj 17 out of a possible 20 with the score of the day. (for those with slack jobs and high speed broadband can watch it online – productivity-zero)
go jesse. And how about local Bronte surfer Jesse MILEY-DYER finishing 4th on the women’s world tour after taking out her 1st WCT event in HONOLUA BAY, Hawaii. The Rookie of the year showing fine form for world championship contention. asp
seven.layneShe’s done it again…7 world surfing titles for Layne Beachley. Take a bow little layne. smh
Watched a fare avoiding drunk guy get chased around Bondi park for 10 minutes this morning…cabbie in hot pursuit hurlin’ abuse. Thats just about the most action I saw down there this morning. Like something out of Benny Hill. Hope his ride wasn’t from Penrith. Silly season in full effect.
Not much chop surfwise. That little surprise swell of the weekend has been beaten up by the summer nor-easterlies. We’re not left with a great deal this morning (1ft), especially at south facing beaches (e.g. Bondi). This wind swell is wobbling in from the NE direction and lacks grunt. More exposed beaches like Bra or Whaley would show more size. 2ft+
It’s a great beach day nonetheless with 30 feisty ones. This NE wind is going to howl at 30 knots later today though. Surf forecast is still lame. Go see your shrink about that twitch.
miss bondi. steph.
The 10th annual Miss Bondi was won by Stephanie Dey on Saturday in front of a frothin’ crowd. Check out the pics of the finals.
zzz.Today could quite possibly be the most boring day down the beach. There are no waves. Not much sun. Onshore. No joy. I could have told you that without even heading down the beach – ’cause I bought two new boards this week…every time I get new boards it goes flat. They haven’t even been waxed up yet. I just look at them and check the paper for cheap flights outa here. Hawaii would be good today to see the finals of the pipe masters at 12ft. swell coming ? nope nothing…so give that Christmas party and extra nudge tonight.
miss bondi. The finals are on tomorrow…and the beach road hotel will be heeeeaving…2pm sat 9th dec. downstairs beer garden. Photos heat 1 | heat 2 | heat 3
xmas gift guide for chix. Here are some suggestions for the girlies to get their blokes this xmas. He will love u long time.
A new board, just do it. You can’t go wrong. I’d say a summer fish shape or something he doesn’t have already. Check SixOunce. Aloha.
boardies. You can never have too many of them (just like your bikinis). Modern Amusements are the pick. check GP for newies. Mambo has some pretty cool trippy ones out now. Rhythm has some original stuf.
buy him a surf trip to the Mentawai islands. You’d be classified goddess should you fork out for one of these. Got a sister? Tengiri
An Aquabumps original print photographic framed in white $180 (c’mon I had to) – see aquabumps gallery all weekend 10am to 4pm. best pics
D.Hump’s new photo book Sipping Jetstreams
how about a seaplane ride so he can check where he’s been surfing all this time from above. $225 Adrenalin
Broken Down Melody soundtrack and surfing DVD. Good for flat spells like this one. Available at all surfshops. $50?
surfing wettie top for summer – warm enough for about 5 months of the year…approx $180 ripcurl
blue.Spend a few days traveling, 3 flights, overnight rolling boat ride and you’ll come across water this blue. It’s freaky. Not a day goes past where I don’t get accused of some fancy photoshop dance work on these shots. So here are five fat ones straight outa the camera. No LSD enhanced filters here. Just seriously clear blue Indonesian water. May help that its also 3 kilometers deep…
flatspell. So you’ve probably gathered by today’s shots we’re bang in the middle of a flat spell. Last night a south change rocked in flattening the local NE dribbly bits. We’ve currently got wind chop around 1 foot breaking in the middle of Bondi. Its still onshore. Forget about it. Couldn’t find anything worth pointing my lens at this morning. Not like yesterday. Hence the big blue shots.
sipping jetstreams. Two big names. Taylor Steele and D.Hump. They’ve put out a book and movie "sipping jetstreams" that travels the far reaches of the globe from Marakesh to Barbados, Egypt to Japan, Venice to Cuba – see the flick at Bondi Open Air cinema Dec 15 Friday 6:30pm. Get your tickets now – All proceeds go to SurfAid International
miss bondi. The finals this week. 2pm beach road hotel… more
Since the year 1999 I’ve been waking up at dawn everyday to shoot pics. ok. I may have missed a couple after a big night. But that’s 7 years honks. Possibly 2000 early mornings. No golf clap please. No medal required stirrers. I’ve seen more sunrises than a DJ in Ibiza. yeah. and my point is? Today’s sunrise is one of the best. I rate it. It was phenomenal. Best ever(ish). Just the right amount of thin cloud. Just the right amount of sun to spark up a skyshow inferno above North Bondage. So. Lap. It. Up. Hell even download yourself a new Aquabumps Desktop Image to remind you that mornings are the best part of the day and haul arse outta bed …even if its just for a swim or flake on a rock.
The surf. You’re totally dreaming. Its flat or ankle biters. And there ain’t much for the rest of the week either…why not check out the Aquabumps Gallery Flip Book and do some chrissy shopping ::uge
patience.Patience has never been one of my virtues. Should it be one of yours, you’d probably enjoy a small wave at exposed south facing beaches this morning. Big long waits in between sets (yawn). They’re only breaking around waist to chest high when they do rock into town. But hey, the water is clear ‘n’ glassy & the sun is out which should be enough to distract you from most of your responsibilities today. Day for the beginner’s or beach day…
bad news. The rest of the week is pretty boring with knee high waves for most of it. Time to do other things and clock up the brownie points in anticipation of another swell. Warm weather tomorrow 27. Enjoy.
win stuff. You can never get enough free stuff…REEF and the new A Brokedown Melody album are giving away REEF packs which include T-shirt, thongs and key-ring (valued at $100). Have a crack at – enter (and give us a good reason why you should score)
So we’re officially into summer now – so how ’bout it huh? Where is the bake? Only a wussy 22 degrees today as we have another wintery cool flash back. The weekend’s onshore winds have whipped up a messy 2 – 3 foot wave down at Bondi. It’s worthy of a paddle with the odd decent left working off two distinct peaks. Still breaking pretty random though with an agitated ocean and 5 – 10 knots of easterly. High tide 8:10am Low tide 14:53 high tide 20:48.
This swell will fade…fast…overnight in fact..as we enter another week of small small waves (boo). So if that twitch starts flaring up and you start acting a little bit weird I’d suggest doing your xmas shopping or something to keep you busy.
Heat 3 of Miss Bondi was held at the Beach Road Hotel on Saturday. Here is some fotos to distract you from having an effective Monday in the office. Come see the Finals this Saturday 2pm beer garden of BRH.
Woowee.how good is this weather? Lap it up. And what…a little 3 foot peak at south facing beaches with north easterly winds. Stop it. Bondi had some real fun ones earlier today on a couple of distinct peaks. Massive crowds. Loose the wettie to the warm water (20 degrees) but don the crash helmet as we come into the season of lethal loose boards…can hear the ambulances now.
prediction. The swell is fading fast and the NE will blow. Bad combo. Best time to surf is now. The weekend’s surf conditions look mini 2 foot and not worth it. Oh and more bad news – the weather turns bad with cooler weather (sat26sun22) and showers.
bondi to bronte swim. You’ve probably walked the Bondi to Bronte but can you say that you’ve swum it? This Sunday 3rd Dec at 10am you can join 2000 swimmers in the Banana Boat Bondi to Bronte ocean swim! More
gallery.xmas is coming around faster than you think. I know a place where you can do all your shopping in the one place…yeah – the Aquabumps Photo Gallery in 98 Brighton Boulevard North Bondi. Open 10am to 4pm all weekend. Custom orders need 3 weeks…so no more mucking around. VIEW GALLERY PHOTOS Come in for look – email us – download price guide
arrival. That storm sure did whip of some size. Bondi was breaking out the back around 5-6 foot solid. Pitty there wasn’t anything decent for them to break on. Most sets broke straight barely allowing a single turn. The inside corner in the south had a few frothas hackin’ sucky bank. I would drive…and find a beach with a decent bank.
swing.Winds will swing from the S/SW right around to the NE today. I reckon that should take the bump out of the chunk this morning. So let it settle and surf south exposed beaches where it will be offshore later today.
fade. This south swell is bit of a one-hit-wonder. It will disappear as fast as it came. Tomorrow 4ft in the morning then halve that in the arvo. Period 10 sec. 5am high tide, 10:47am low tide, 5pm high tide. 25 degrees today. 28 tomorrow.
flex.We could all do with a bit more flex. Good for your surfing. Samudra yoga and surf retreats are starting up in West oz (Near Margies) early next year – website
fog.On the other side of that fog curtain it could have been 6 foot & pumping…and no one would have even known. But its not. Its 1 foot and weak under a slab of FOG. Hard to see more than 5 metres in front of you. Best wait ’til later…
blow. The southerly hit at 8:40am and will intensify as the day progresses to 33 knots. That blow will push some swell up for tomorrow…should be around 4 foot by 5pm today. (junkie with the onshore winds). 4-5 foot tomorrow.
Only a max of 25 degrees today with cloud cover increasing. High tide 15:46, low tide 09:30. All in all – nothing really exciting to report.
reef.Lotta talk about the Bondi Reef Proposal. There is a meeting this Saturday on the hill at South Bondi. 2nd December 1pm if you want to know more about what’s happening.
Have a good day::uge
Not short on people down the beach this morning. Thousands of them buffing up for the summer onslaught. Definitely short in the wave department with knee to waist high weak dribbling bits. A day for the beginners.
Today will cook to 35 degrees before a south change nemesis cools it down overnight. Fortunately this change will bring swell, around 4 feet tomorrow, but it won’t be clean until Thursday ’cause of the onshore wind stream all day Wednesday.
Go swim. Is good. Uge (yooj)
So you’re a bit bored of 1 foot overcast dribbles? I hear ya pain. Well for today’s batch I’ve thrown in some drunken backpackers making out after a big night. Yup… summer is definitely here when a pissed guy missing a shoe asks for a light as I duck under for a morning swim. (was that you Mannie?)
For the next 2 days the surf is very lame. Pass the sauce. Wednesday is your best bet after a cooling south change rocks in – but it will be a little junkie (3ft). Tomorrow will be hot (31) with small waves. This Sunday looks like a cold snap again (max 20). Forget today kids. Pump the work out.
Put a smile on the faces of seriously ill and hospitalized children. How? Cough up $90 and check out the FIVE DESIGNERS show at the swanky Hilton hotel this Thursday 30th November, 7pm to 11pm. Designers include Lisa Ho, Wayne Cooper etc… Booking hotline 02 8425 5939 Proceeds go to the Starlight Foundation Australia. Tix $ include all drinks, food and show…web
And lastly, here be the shots from the weekends Miss Bondi heat 2 at the Beach Road hotel. I’m trialing a new photo gallery setup…let’s hope it doesn’t freak out.
Junkyard. Well can’t be good everyday. Early SE winds made a mess of what little swell is around. Weak waist high waves broke randomly mid to south Bondi this morning. Wind will swing NE in the afternoon which will make for a good swim especially if it gets up to the predicted 27. High tide 11am, low tide 6pm.
This weekend is going to be sub 2 foot, fine weather with a south change on Sunday. Hit the beach …sans board, don’t think you’ll be needing that.
A few weeks ago the Bondi Board Riders held the Single Fin classic. Bad dancing. Loose surfing. Baaaaad outfits. See video
Have a great weekend. Come to the Aquabumps gallery for your Christmas shopping. Open Sat/Sun 10am to 4pm ::uge
If you were down the beach yesterday at 5pm you would have gone from sizzling beef to chilled crumbed sausages in 30 seconds flat. Yep that violent south change exploded and evacuated 2,000 from Bondi beach in under 10 minutes.
That south change brought a mini south swell for today. You’ll find rides approximately 2-3 foot at southern exposed beaches, bit junky still from the overnight 30 knots of howl. Still a few decent ones…fun. SW winds early, SE later, max 31 and fine, high tide 10:18 low tide 17:06
Now you know there are only two things to give this Christmas, either an original Aquabumps photographic print or a new board. Both will put you well high in the good books. Back Door Benny down at down at Six Ounce Board Store in Bondi is still taking xmas custom orders on his retro inspired surf vehicles. Call the hotline 9300 8339 and get sorted before this Sunday.
Soles for the Soul – Head down to the Beach Road Hotel tonight for the sneaker art exhibition. 7pm. Proceeds go to the Surfrider foundation. sixty shoes, 20 artists…adios::ugios
chinas. Remember those sizzling beef dishes at ya local Chinese restaurant called Golden something? Golden Wok, Golden Eagle, Golden palace whatever …all kitted out pagoda style and riddled with msg? well that sizzling beef dish best describes today. ‘Cause its hot. Damn hot. You can feel it em dem bones at 5:30am. A super sweet and sour porka of 38 degrees today and I recommend pullin’ the pin on work and hit the beach for the arvo.
Surf. There is a small wind swell hitting from the north east. You’ll find peaks around 3 foot max. 2 foot standard. Not bad with the current NW wind combo. The water is super chilled fried ice cream after a night of NE blowing the top off it. You’ll still need your wetty and hit NE exposed beaches e.g. Curly, Bra, Whaley
Typical of this time of year, a violent south storm will follow this hot weather cooling the joint down. Tonight she’ll blow 30 knots from the south creating a few waves for exposed beaches tomorrow. So if you’re planning a balcony boozer expect a radical cooling into your 4 th Singapore Sling – well you properly won’t notice in that case. Tomorrow only managing to hit 26 but fine.
Seeya chinas :: Peng Ho
Sizzle. She’s gonna be a hot one that’s for shizza. Some say dirty thirty-3 and a crackin’ thirty-8 tomorrow. A time to hit the beach for a lazy dip as there’s no surf to discuss. In fact tomorrow is the only hope of a small wind wave (2 foot). I knew I moved the gallery to North Bondi for some damn good reason. Yep days like these, but I won’t rub it in too much for those cubicle bound. Now where’s me towel?
Bondi Interclub Surf Challenge – Girls & Guys – Sat 25th Nov, 7.30am – South Bondi. Summer chaos is here and in the interest of good times and good vibes, members of Bondi Boardriders and Bondi Girls Surfriders will be coming together to pair off in teams of one girl and one guy to take out the inaugural title. Miss Bondi 2006 – heat 1
Yep creeps, those pics from Heat 1 Miss Bondi are up. Fellas try not to bring down the web server this year – we had 11,000 unique visitors online on the 1 st day last year…just make sure your boss doesn’t sneak up behind you. On again this Saturday 2pm, Beach Road Hotel.
Perfect day…for wake boarding that is… Barely a rideable ripple at Bondi early this morning. Salubrious morning with warm weather, warm water and a cracker sunrise to boot. Fine day heading in the direction of 29 fat ones. Forget surfing this week, its micro Mon-Fri. Go swim.
SOLES FOR THE SOUL :: 23rd Nov at the Beach Road Hotel from 7pm.
Sixty shoes, twenty artists, one cause…This Thursday night check out a sneaker exhibition at the BRH. Over 20 artists from fields as diverse as Illustration, Design, Photography, Print Making, Tattooistry and Blacksmithing will exhibit alongside internationally celebrated graphic designers such Vince Frost, (Frost Design) and publications such as ‘Zembla’ and Murray Bell, co-founder of designiskinky.com and publications such as ‘movement’. Proceeds go to the Surfrider Foundation Australia. Webby
What a weird day yesterday huh. Ferocious southerlies ripping through Sydney with a chill that bites deep. Thankfully that’s all over now, and we’ve got a few bumpy rides around the joint. You’ll find 3 footers with heaps of wobble after yesterday’s storm agitation. Still very surfable. Winds are currently strong S/SW which will ease later today in a SE direction 910/15 knots).
Tomorrow northerlies should blow and improve surface conditions but the swell will fade fast overnight (2 foot leftovers tomoz). Low tide 12:52 High tide 18:44. Mostly sunny and 20 degrees today. Much warmer over the weekend and Sunday looking the goods at 27.
New Bondi Reef – last night 50 Bondi surfers (including legendary Cheyne Horan) rocked up to Council chambers to discuss the hot topic of a new Bondi reef. "Waverley council are open to the idea but its mega early days and there is a lot of work to do" say Ian Wallace from Bondi Board riders. So more info to come that should answer the barrage of questions…
Another year has burnt passed and the 10th Annual Miss Bondi starts tomorrow at the Beach Road hotel around 2pm. For the next 4 consecutive Saturdays there will be 3 heats and then a final. Ah yes, they’ll be some photos published on Aquabumps of course. More
Have a great weekend ::uge
Brrrrr. Looking out the car window I saw some decent chunks rockin’ into Bondi with only a couple of lone wolves sampling the lefts in the corner. Some sets are up around 4 foot with the standard Bondi chubbiness.
This grey cold weather ain’t doing much for us though. SMH reports that it’s the coldest November day in a century. (Minimum of 8.3 degrees this morning). Freaky, what next? Snow?
Swell around 2 metres from the south with short period of 7-9. S/SW 20/30 kts, reaching 30/35 kts. Thunderstorms. Land Min: 10°C Max: 15°C. High tide 6am, low tide 12pm, high 6pm. Smaller tomorrow but still 3 foot and SW winds early.
SiLLy Season*This time of year is always fun – silly season was kicked off with a Melbourne cup bang last week. Charles the flamboyant Scotsman, who has been lingering around Sydney, is having a big party tonight. If you’re keen to go have a shot at emailing him for an invitation – [email protected] – I think numbers are pretty tight…so best of luck.
Bondi Supabank* – meeting with council tonight 6pmBondi is famous for closing out. Local crew are meeting with council at 6pm tonight to discuss the possibilities of a new reef. The proposed reef is not really artificial in the true sense of the word; the concept is to use the existing sandstone boulders in ‘the boot’ area to form a more natural reef. Show your support for this concept by rockin up at council chambers at 6pm, Bondi Road and Paul Street, Bondi Junction. More info Rob 0405 140 973
Cheers, ::uge (had trouble getting surfing shots in the rain!)
Things are a bit volatile at the moment. Weather and surf is changing by the hour. Really hard to pick. I expected it to be bigger this morning (3ftish), but it was like a lake. Yesterdays winds swung around to the north making for a good arvo session, but now the swell has done a runner…
Summers bake was cooking earlier today with a light offshore breeze and crystal clear water. At 10am things had begun changing rapidly with cloud cover spreading and a howling W/NW wind at 25 knots. A freaky artic south change will rock into town this afternoon dragging us back into winter. The temperature will drop down to a strange 17 degrees tomorrow. Something is not right…Why? Perhaps check out a special WWF screening of Al Gore’s "An Inconvenient Truth", 6:30pm – Monday 20th November, Fox Studios Cinema Paris. Tix $20, $10 goes to WWF. website
What? No more closeouts? Local surfer Rob Stutz has a meeting with Waverley Council tomorrow night (Thurs Nov 15) at 6:30pm to discuss the possibilities of an artificial reef in the Bondi southern corner converting ‘the boot’ (behind Bergs) into a supabank. Rob 0405 140 973
Rasta’s back in town for his Life Like Liquid Tour. His big show is on this Saturday night 18th November at 8pm. Coogee Bay Hotel’s Selina’s Bar. See his later film plus a night of aquatic influenced music from Rasta and his muso buddies.
A brand spankin’ new south swell sparks into Sydney after that cooling overnight front. The swell is still wobbly and unsettled, but by the time the winds swing from the SW around to the NE it should get more organized. Sets out the back were around head high, and pretty random. The mid-to-south corner had the best peaks…some held open…some closed…pot luck.
Spectacular light show this morning with low hanging clouds masking the fingers of God. This time of year you’ll get some great back lit shots as the sun now rises directly behind the waves in Bondi illuminating those green walls. All good.
High tide 04:38am, low tide 10:13am, high tide 16:20. Fine, mostly sunny day with maximum of 24 degrees. S/SW 15/20 kts easing to 10/15 kts in the morning and tending NE 10/15 kts in the afternoon and reaching 15/20 kts at night. Swell is on the up and tomorrow will be solid head high plus plus. Um… offshore (sw) in the early morning as well!
Unfortunately we’re all getting older (for real). With age we loose agility. Being less agile we surf kinda lame…(e.g. Jamie Verco). Suggestion to loosen things up – head up to Samudra’s Yoga + Surf retreats in Byron Bay. Next retreat 2nd Dec more info or call 1800 828 888 ::uge
Now that’s what I call a weekend. Perfect weather, warm and a few small waves around the traps…
Today you’ll find knee cappers out at Bondi, perfect for beginners – there isn’t too many other options either. So it’s a work day… Tomorrow should see a slight increase in swell (it can’t get any smaller), so hang in there…high tide 2:20pm, low tide 8am, water 20, max land temp 30! NW winds increasing to 20/25 kts, tending W afternoon. Increasing to 25/35 kts after late south change. Could rain for U2 tonight…
Sculpture by the Sea is now in its 10th year. 108 sculptures currently litter the coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama. 400,000 people will view Australia ‘s largest outdoor sculpture exhibition from 2 – 19 November. More info
Have a good week::uge
Yeeeeeeha. Finally. The weather has cleared and the south swell continues (half the size of yesterday though). The winds have also swung into the favourable northerly direction. Bondi was fun at 7am, but mostly closing out (3ft). Should you hang out towards the 11:30am high tide it will get much much better. Low tide 5am, 6:30pm, max 25 degrees today and mighty fine, water 20, NW/NE 10/15 kts tending N/NE 18/23 kts in the afternoon, first light at 5:20am, last light at 20:00.
Cracker weekend coming up with perfect weather (28 tomorrow, 29 Sunday). Swell is fading rapidly though. Stack the boards on the roof and get outta town.
If you went for a wave at Tamarama this morning and left your board on the kerb, email us the board length and brand. We have it. Have a great weekend::uge
Nope the picture above isn’t from today…wish… If these bad conditions continue my archives are going to run thin. Well it’s onshore as expected with a large increase in swell size. I saw sets up around 6 foot out the back, but it’s a total frothn’ mess – only one helmeted lone wolf trying to paddle out, who quit after 5 minutes. Forget about it for now (or head north to protected Manly/Collaroy). Best wait for the switch to NE winds later tonight. High tide 10:40am, low tide 5:30pm. Swell will come off a bit over night but should still be around 3-4 foot in the morning.
World Tour News: Mick Eugene Fanning takes out the Brazil WCT event over CJ Hobgood in the final. Fanning now ranked 2nd in the world to Kelly Slater, is looking pretty sharp for title race next year…as Kelly’s already taken out the number 1 seat for this year before the tour has even finished. more

Not a bad call on Pop Rock yesterday…if only I put $10,000 on the place. Lost by a whisker dammit. Celebrated like it won anyway with 9 million other messy mutes…there’d be some sore heads around the offices today!
The waves are very average today. Mush. Could have been better earlier, but the midday report is onshore slop around 3 foot. The good news is that the south swell machine cranks up to 6 foot plus tomorrow with a large period up to 12 secs (BOM issuing large surf warning – red alert!). That should wrap into all the nooks and crannies of Sydney. Unfortunately it will be onshore early tomorrow (go to Manly out of the wind),and then the wind will swing around to the east by the afternoon and then goes offshore (NW) for Friday morning. I like Friday – hoping it will straighten itself out…
The photos today were so average I just couldn’t publish them. Flat grey ugly things. So hope these Indonesian treats keep you dreaming of your next surf trip. Someone famous once said "you don’t need permission to go on holidays…"
There’s a heap of swell around this morning, but it’s so unpredictable – bit like the Melbourne cup – anything could happen. My money is on Pop Rock…but I have no idea really.
Waves broke around 4 foot with 6 foot sets out the back at Bondage this morning (hey Andrew g – you’re calling it 1 – 2 foot today? What tha? You have big feet my friend. mowhahah) Winds were briefly offshore this morning (SW) and will swing around to the SE this afternoon (13/18knts). It’s surfable, fun even…but mainly closing out on the larger sets. Bondi shouldn’t be your pick…other joints should have better waves e.g. bronte. High tide 9am, low tide 3:45pm. First light at 5:30am, last light at 19:55, few showers this afternoon…come on sunshine – bring it back.
Best of luck with your punting today. Use the force
Come in, come in. Yes, lie down on the couch. Comfortable? Good, let’s begin. Today, I’d like to talk about this massive low that is haunting us over the past few days. Sou-easter onshore winds are terrorizing 4-6 foot chunks out at Bondi. It’s a complete mess again and we’re all going a little mental. You’d need to hit a beach like Manly that is out of the wind…otherwise re-order the bookshelves, clean the fridge out or watch Broken Down Melody until this onshore mania ends. Didn’t want to show you 5 shots of Bondi white foam washing machine…so I threw a few indo delights to keep us sane.

Not much cooking in our district. Best head down to the Bra or an east facing beach with banks. Currently we’ve got a 1.5 metre NE swell, nothing at Bondi, south change around lunch time bringing rain, onshore southerly winds all weekend, swell increase Sunday afternoon to 4ft. Not too flash until then…
Since there’s no waves, we resorted to a body surf with Dave Rastovich who is town at the moment promoting his "Life Like Liquid" tour. Rasta has traveled the globe searching for perfect waves and along the way developed a truly unique style of music which epitomises the free surfing lifestyle.

Some days if you’re patient enough a wave will come. Today you’d rock down the beach and think not much is happening…well it is tiny, but every half hour or so you might get lucky with a chest high set that doesn’t require diet pills. The 1m swell is out of the E/NE and best suited to other exposed beaches. Good morning for a dip, run or flake on the sand.
Morning NW winds will swing NE 18/23 kts this afternoon. High tide 5:10am, low 11am. Fine day reaching 28 degrees with rain developing later. Maybe some swell coming for Sunday…cross your fingers. (3-4 footers from the south with SW winds early). Other than that, there is not much to get excited about.
The 6th Bondi Short Film Festival is coming up again – dang the years go so fast! The festival will be held on Friday 24th of November and Saturday 25th of November 2006 down at the Bondi pavilion. Entries have closed, but come and watch Australia ‘s fresh talent show their best 15 minutes. website
Waist high wind swell dribbly bits. Onshore.
The overnight cooling southerly winds have kicked in. Waves are being generated by a local NE (1.5m) wind swell that lacks grunt. Nothing at all to get excited about. Especially at south facing beaches such as Bondi. East facing beaches would be more suitable e.g. Bra, Whaley…
Expect a fine and mainly sunny day. (Max 26), winds will swing back around to the NE late this afternoon. High tide 4:30pm, low tide 10am.
Every house needs one of these – a giant ‘Burnt Wave’ metallic print face mounted on polished acrylic. click here to view or come and see it at the Aquabumps gallery in North Bondi. With xmas around the corner, best get your orders in soon… production takes at least 2 weeks… ::uge
Hola. Once again there are a few waves around this morning – mainly shoulder high, sometimes head high. With today’s smaller swell (2.0m with smaller interval) it is producing a few more decent waves in comparison to yesterday’s straight-handers. Late session yesterday was the goods.
Early morning NW winds were promoting cleaner surfaces but there is still some wonk in this early bump. The 8:40am low tide was probably hindering it also, so best ride it mid tide and before the wind blows from the NE (15/20 knots) this afternoon. (High tide 3:30pm). The weather looks great with a maximum of 25 degrees and mostly sunny with a possibility of a lat thunderstorm.
Packed beach this morning with everyone getting into shape for summer. All sorts… including Charles the flamboyant Scot who was loitering in the south end (sans harem). Looks like he’s got a little website of his own… Check it out ::uge
Slow start to the day after pushing our clocks forward 1hr. Yawn… The wind backed right off last night leaving some clean conditions for this morning. The swell has dropped a couple of notches as well, and is now producing waves around 4 foot on the sets down at Bondi. Northerly winds today blowing 15/20 knots in the afternoon (NE). It’s a wonky swell breaking pretty randomly if not mostly closing out. Other beaches would have much more to offer today. Go for a drive. High tide 2pm, low tide 7:30am, max of 23 degrees today, partly cloudy, sunrise at 6am, first light at 5:30am.
Last Saturday the Beach Road Hotel Single Fin Classic was held down at Bondi in 2-3 footers at first in the morning, which then turned into 6-8 foot monsters with the howling afternoon onshore. Ian Wallace won the event for the second time, whilst local power grom Perth Standlick came in second, John "Bones" Dwyer third and Shane Thomas fourth. Paul Cram took out the seniors with Glen Platt coming second. Hilarious day with some out of control dance moves before heats… Check out a few snaps
Back home. No more trips away for sometime now. I promise.
Bondi had a few small waves this morning. South swell pushing weak 2-3 foot sets in the south. Couple of workable peaks. Not smokin’ – but still surfable. NW/NE 10/15 kts increasing to 15/20 kts offshore. Winds turning W/SW 18/23 kts in the afternoon or evening. Nice day with a decent 28 degrees…good beach day.
Now I’ve been talking it up all week – yep the Beach Road Hotel Single Fin Classic is on tomorrow down at South Bondi . The waves are going to be 3 foot in the morning and bigger as the day progresses – yeha! So the comps got good waves. It’s a must to come down and watch/surf…drag the esky down…looks to be mostly sunny – its a hilarious day.
