24 Carat Gold Coast

I’m on the Goldie!

The first local I chatted with said “Don’t go outside, it’s freezing” (he was wearing a singlet and thongs). It confused me. I checked my phone – 23 degrees and perfectly sunny outside. I thought he must have meant the water, which is also 23 degrees…ah, these Queenslanders have it good up here – spoilt. They’re still surfing in boardies and it’s nearly winter!

It’s an aquatic paradise on the Gold Coast, no one seems too interested in working and everybody is up for a chat. A long chat.

I’ve lucked into some salubrious Supa Bank conditions and it’s like dream – long walls, waves that never end…stuff I used to draw on my school books as a kid.

Tomorrow there will be an enormous swell here… really big. It’s uncertain how it will unfold, but I am praying to catch a wave from Snapper to Kirra – just one, on my own, as that’s on my bucket list. It’s not easy getting a wave off several WCT surfers – and well there’s Mick, Joel and Steph…but I’m patient.

Enough typing, posting, shooting – I am hitting the beach!

P.S. I flew Rex up here. It’s cheaper than a taxi to Syd airport and good!
