The swell has flipped and now coming in from the NE. I guess all that wind last night stirred up some wind swell.
It’s nothing special. Wind swells never really are. The beaches are mushy, junkie and random. Good for a grovel.
26 today. Wowsers. Go for a swim.
GRAND CUCINA. Sounds like some exotic Italian restaurant huh? Well two occa Bondi surfers, Tim and Jethro, have started a little online business selling professional-top brand kitchenware. It’s cheap and good, trust me – half my kitchen is from them. Let’s keep the boys real busy and out of the lineup by checking out their latest deal, exclusive for the Aquabumps inner-sanctum…$50 bucks off if you enter AQUABUMPS in the coupon code field during check out. Yeah baby, free money. Go look.
Have a great weekend – weather looks choice.

Not a spare seat in the house down at Bondi this morning.
It was that comfortable combo of tiny waves and sunshine that attracted a lot of rookies. Great day to learn.
The water temperature even bumped up slightly.
The wind is coming though, 25 knots of NE will shake it up a little and decimate what little south swell we have.
What a day. 23 degrees and perfecto!
Got something for your Dad? It’s Father’s Day on Sunday…we’ve got plenty in the Aquabumps Gallery (which is looking mighty slick at the moment with a grand recent renovation)

The morning magic continues…glassy, sunny, warm morning with a small wave pulsing in the south corner of Bondi. It was pretty quick, so I reckon more tide will provide makeable sections. High tide 1:40pm, low tide 7am (when I took these photographs)
The water was kinda chilly…I’d say 16-17 degrees. Can you believe it is going to be 23 degrees today! I’m gonna say it…that’s it for winter, we’re nearly in spring and skipped a whole season.
Great Ocean Road Trip
A few months ago we shot down the Great Ocean Road in search of some good waves with a couple of pro surfers. Ok, so we didn’t score the mythical Surf Coast epic waves but we went to some pretty incredible locations such as the Twelve Apostles and blogged along the way. Here’s a short film of our trip. Kinda gives an insight into doing my job on the road and how lucky we are being able to broadcast photos on the go. View Movie

Seems to be a bit of a swell drought on at the moment. The lack of low pressuries makes for fine weather, just not fine surfing.
South facing swell magnets (AKA Bondeye) would draw a little mal wave, but don’t get too excited. Waist to occasionally shoulder high perhaps?
Looks small all week.
Tomorrow is going to be a banging 23 degrees.
Who’s ya Daddy? This Sunday 1st September is Father’s Day. Go on spoil him. He deserves it. Our freshly renovated Aquabumps Gallery is stocked with so many goodies for him. Buy our book today and we will next day post it to you anywhere in Oz. Living overseas? Order stuff online and it will get delivered directly to Pops. I always think a Gift Card is the best way…then he can come in, mind surf some barrel photos and blow one up for his Man Cave.

We seem to be having an epic run of sunny weather.
Same thing is happening in New Zealand. Queenstown was remarkably mild and I saw someone wearing thongs and t-shirt in Dunedin last week. Now that’s a big deal.
It’s good to be home with fresh eyes after a week out of town. New Zealand is stunning, but we live in a great place too!
I forget how active the mornings are around here. I try and explain this to people overseas – yep, Aussies get up early and exercise like maniacs. Thousands of people up at 6am today. Carpe diem!
There are NO waves. Forget surfing until tomorrow where a little bump may arrive.

Hey Cuzi’s. Having the best time over here EN-ZED (NZ). Today we scored some pretty epic waves at Aramoana, but the local boys still called it a 4 out of 10. Sets broke 4-6 foot, hollow, in front of a scenic giant cliff – yes, I frothed. The friendly local surf community (totally 5 or 6) took the day off work to enjoy decent waves in the sun. But I’m told there are waves most days and they don’t get much done around here.
Today I shot in the water for a few hours. Ok, she’s real cold, but with amazing wetsuits available today it doesn’t really hinder your performance too much. For example I wore a 5mm/3mm O’Neill Psycho + hoodies + booties + gloves and was toasty. The cold water keeps the line up empty…that’s for sure.
Sadly this is the last Aquabumps update from New Zealand. This amazing En-Zed trip was made possible with the help of so many good folk. In particular the girls at Tourism NZ (Louise Bernauer), Air New Zealand, Destination Queenstown and Destination Dunedin, Derek Morrison, Maz Quinn, Josh Jenkins, Giselle Regan, Chopper pilots, Heli Ski guides, Surf guides…cheers Bros!

After a very scenic 3 hour drive from Queenstown you’ll hit the coastal town of Dunedin. When you think Dunedin you’ll think of World Cup Rugby…cold…thousands of University kids (Scarfies)…gold mining..cold and stuff like that.
You probably don’t know that the surf cranks down here. Admittedly the water is a little frosty (9) but the area is littered with different set ups, beachies, points, tubes – with barely a human in sight.
The back drops to the waves are jaw dropping. The water is crystal clear and very blue. Just remember to pack your booties, gloves and hoodies. Any exposed skin does tend to sting a little once submerged.
These shots are from a beach really close to town and the locals call it a 4 out of 10 (looked pretty fun to me)
Sweet Az : : u g e
Different pace today…no helicopters. Had a look around Queenstown – the scenery is off the hook, in every direction you look. I will let the pictures do all the talking.
The day started with a Jet Boat down the Shotover River. Wow. The boats swing so close to the rocks you could pat them…they reckon they’ve never lost a boat which I find amazing. They reminded me of some of my Indo boat drivers.
Ok ok…I’m hitting the road now to meet up with Kiwi surf legend Maz Quinn in Dunedin (I’m told there’s a few waves around). Fingers crossed Cuzi’s.

If you want more information on a trip to EN-ZED (NZ), check this out
Probably one of the most indulgent things you can do in life is use helicopters to get around. They’re dream machines capable of cutting out travel time and getting you to locations that aren’t humanly possible. They are also a photographers dream, assisting us in unique angles, effortlessly. Bit higher please, bit lower please…can we land on that patch of snow kind sir? The possibilities are endless.
Today I was fortunate to go Heli Skiing just out of Queenstown in The Remarkables with 3 pro boarder/skiers and a fearless 14 year old kid who wagged school to come with us. It’s a great concept, fly in the mountains, find something that remotely looks rideable…throw the crew out and shoot them carving down the slopes. 1st tracks every time. No signs of other humans, ok maybe just Bear Grylls…but it’s really something you should put on your bucket list.Even though we didn’t get head high powder, it’s still amazing just being up there.
If you’d like to fly over the ditch and see what I’m talking about, Air New Zealand are running a special sale, that ends today – $150 off airfares to NZ. Click Here
What next aye? Heli-Surf? Stay tuned…:: uge
I don’t stray from the coast often…but the seductive reputation of New Zealand’s South Island was just too much Cuzi’s. This week I’ll be showing you snow to surf – some of NZ’s (pronounced EN-ZED) best fruit.
This morning kicked off with a scenic heli-shoot around the Wanaka area which was pretty much incredible, Bucket List kinda stuff…everywhere you look I saw postcards…and yes…it looks like the brochures in real life!
The Audi Quattro Winter Games is on at Cardrona – they’ve having some trouble with a nemesis Easterly wind holding cloud on the mountain, but that should clear up this afternoon. The best skiers and boarders in the world are here right now trying to carve a path to the Olympics.
If you’re thinking of coming over, book your tickets today or tomorrow with Air New Zealand and you’ll get $150 off More Info

Bit fickle down the beach at the moment. Yesterday afternoon had some good waves. This morning was kinda close-out-rubbish.
For about the 100th day in a row we have clear skies and sunshine, can you believe it? Go outside.
She’s gonna be flat for most of the weekend and no significant swells on the horizon. Perhaps it’s a good time to pop into the Aquabumps gallery and check out our renovations. It’s bigger, better and ridiculously good looking. We’re now the biggest gallery this side of China (ok, sorry that might not be true) with the best looking garden in town. Now, don’t tell me…I should start a café out there…see…I read minds.
My bags are packed and ready for a week of Heli-Ski, Heli-Surf in New Zealand next week. Oh boy, you’re gonna see some good stuff next week on Aquabumps. No changing channels.
A d i o s : : u g e
At 6:30am there were no waves full stop. Probably the smallest/flattest it has been in months. Wait a few hours and there is going to be a head high wave. Me no lie.
Teahupoo ASP Comp waiting period starts today. It looks a little flat there too right now. Something coming for Sunday and Monday – but you won’t see the madness of last year unfortunately. I was so keen to go this year but can’t fit it in. I miss that place – haven’t been in 8 years.
The SurfAid Cup is being held on November 1, 2013. The Aquabumps Surf Team won last year and training has begun for this year. Teams registry is NOW OPEN so gather a few colleagues and try and take us on. Download this information pack or call Jo Lynas 02 9965 7325 to enter your team. Sponsor the Aquabumps team please. We’re trying to raise $5,000 for charity.

These very good looking mornings are becoming the standard, the expected. Day after day I roll down the beach and it’s really quite something special. We are being spoilt. No wind, amazing sunrises and clear skies.
It’s going to hit a whopping 24 degrees today. That’s pretty crazy for this time of year. The swell is totally lacking and dribbling in at 1 foot – can’t have everything.
There are waves arriving tomorrow, around 2:33pm…a new south swell. Watch out for it.
For the 3rd season we’ve joined forces with Speedo to create a unique board short and swimsuit range featuring my images. Well, they’ve JUST hit the stores and 7 Aloha surfboards are up for grabs…how do you win a new stick? Easy. Just enter the draw after purchasing anything from the new Aquabumps range. Please note ladies haven’t arrived to our shores yet – soon. So fellas, get some new super stretchy Aquabumps board shorts now whilst we have all the sizes. Buy Online Now or hit a Speedo retailer. I reckon this range are the most comfortable pairs we’ve ever done.

This morning started off with cooler temps (9 degrees to be precise). The water is about 16 degrees which is quite chilling for Sydney.
The waves are tiny and biggest at Bondi…it’s knee high and may get a little bigger later today.
Next week I am going to visit my cuzi bros in En-Zed…this time we will be heading to the south island – 3 days of snow, 2 days of surf. Shooting in the 7 degree Dunedin waters is going to freak me out!
O u t : : u g e
I think I broke a record today for most amount for photos taken in 10 mins. Yep, I filled a 16 gig card in 10 mins whilst swimming. Never done that before.
The sky was bursting with colour around 6:30am (but just for 10 mins). We’re having such a good run with morning hues lately…I can remember a couple of years back I didn’t see a drop of colour in 3 months. There has been around 6 cracker sunrises in the past month!
Freaky weather – max 25 degrees today with no waves – hit the beach.
: : u g e
Hola. After all that wind yesterday we are left with some swell. Bondi was breaking chest to head high but looking a little junky and unpredictable. The banks aren’t crash hot…
Winds offshore and super chilly. It got down to 8 this morning.
The good news is that this weekend looks sunny, warmish and a few waves.
So if you’re running the City 2 Surf – you will be running on a beautiful Sydney winter’s day all the way to our front door – the Aquabumps Gallery.
See you Sunday!
: : u g e
Today was one of those days where taking photos just didn’t seem like the right option. A dreary combo of rain and ankle biters. Yawn…pass the crumpets! Let’s look at some Hawaiian grunt shot earlier this year on my North Shore secondment.
Apparently there is swell coming later today. That’d be nice.
This Sunday is Bondi’s biggest day where 200,000 people cram into our local for the annual City to Surf Run. It’s the largest fun run in the world raising millions for charity. Come see our gallery (and new garden) afterwards if you’re running – we are only metres from the finish line. 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach.
T h e E n d : : U g e
It would be very generous to say that the surf is small today. It’s tiny, similar to a lake.
Today is one of those days to do something else. I’m gonna get my annual haircut, tired of looking like a homeless person.
The sun is blaring…a walk, run, swim is definitely on the cards.
Chance of showers tonight. Keep that in mind.
Swell might creep up later today – keep an eye on it!
: : u g e
Today is like yesterday, just smaller.
Bondi was rarely breaking this morning. A little shorey slapping on the beach…ok, a mal wave every 10-20 mins.
It was a really nice morning down there. Still, warm(ish) and crisp.
Nothing like a morning swim to set you up for the rest of the day.
Can you believe it is going to be 23 degrees today. Wow. For August that is amazing. Even more amazing than yesterday.
Small spike in swell tomorrow arvo – until then, tap on those keyboards and make out like you’re doing some work.
: : u g e
I could get used to this beautiful winter weather. It’s gold.
When I was slipping on that wet wetsuit (the worst) before sunrise I kept on telling myself it’s going to be warm in..gonna be warm in…gonna be nice down there…real nice…just get down there…
Should hit 21 degrees today. Waves are from the ESE and 1-2 foot. It’s glassy with little wind and worth a casual paddle.
Gonna be small for most of this week.
: : u g e
Today is one of those days where you should spend less time reading my dribble and get down the beach…
I saw waves this morning around the 4-5 foot mark. This East swell sure has some fruit on it and is only getting better – and bigger. Oh, did I mention it is offshore as well? Yes, your stars have aligned friend. Nice sunrise to start the party as well.
So I’ve mortgaged the house, got Jet working in a Chinese sweatshop and loaded the credit card after 3 months of gruelling renovations to the one and only AQUABUMPS GALLERY. I’m very proud of how my little mechanics driveway now looks…so come by, check it out. The showroom has now doubled in size and is as slick as a Hermes flagship store – thanks to the talented Kelvin Ho and Andy Cliffe.
Then as you walk down our 40 metre showroom you will enter the Amazon…a lush garden where you can lose your children in, designed by the fruity William Dangar. Where? 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026 Telephone 9130 7788 – and no…I’m not putting in a damn café peeps!
O u t : : u g e
There is a little, fun, flimsy wave on. It will only be found at beaches that face East…like Maroubra, Manly etc. You won’t find any joy at Bondi.
The main show is tomorrow when the swell jacks right up above our heads. So maybe rest, recuperate and soak up these glorious winter rayz until then.
I’ve been busy lately organising my 2014 Mentawai charter. The time is nigh…Have you booked one? Go here and pick your dates for next year. Oh, and there is a few discounted late season 2013 trips left if you are feeling the pinch on the daily grind and want to get barreled.
