Bondi Randomness

Bondi is such a random place.
Friday’s mornings in Bondi – even more bizarre.

I don’t think many beaches in Australia would be this random, and not at 6 am. As I ride down the hill into the bay, I don’t know what to expect.

Take today, for example.

Bang in the middle of Queen Elizabeth Drive Tommy Franklin (Salt Rain) is firing up a “Day Breaker”. A DJ is spinning tunes, Tommy is revving up his dance group as they serenade incoming cars. (Remember, this is at sunrise. This ain’t Ibiza!)

I drift to the South End, surf looks onshore, mushy and all-round pretty crappy. A foil boarder pops up and cuts through 1-foot chop. The One Wave Crew in fluro are gathered in the corner and hundreds are exercising profusely getting the rig in shape for incoming warmer weather.

Ah yes, it’s happening. Silly season summer is on its way. Have a great weekend, uge
