One Day in W.A.

G’day from W.A.

I’ve timed my 24-hour jaunt to sunny Perth well, as Bondi is smothered with southerlies and storms.

Perth is known for its sunny weather and enjoys an average of 8 hours of sunshine daily throughout the year, one of Australia’s highest. The average temperature in summer is around 30°C! Thankfully the cooling Fremantle Doctor (trade wind) kicks in from about 8 am, it would be a tough city to operate without it!

The famous Rottnest Channel swim is on this weekend. I love ocean swimming, but 20 kilometres in Perth’s waters is gruelling. Especially if the wind is up – you’ll end up in Geraldton.

Surf – over here – it’s like a lake.
Bondi surf – big ugly southerly chunks. Hopefully, it will calm down soon.

  1. It’s not a shark net … it’s a shark barrier. The difference ? One ensnares sharks and other marine life … the other stops the sharks entering, but let’s smaller marine life swim through without ensnaring them.
