Night Surfing 13th July 2011
One of the benefits of having a fully lit Ice Skating Rink right on the sands of Bondi is that you can shoot night surfing. The swell has been huge lately and fortunately Wal found a newly formed left shorey grinder that was all lit up – bang in the perfect spot in front of the skating rink. So off Perth and Wal go for a spooky surf last night under lights, paddling with their fingertips. Sharky? I’d say so. Good waves – definitely.
This morning the swell has backed off a little. By that I mean its only 6 foot (not the recent 8-10 foot). Just when you think it’s on the decline another dead south swell is backing it up for tomorrow. No joke. Another one. What a week.

Hey Uge,
Did u use the MKIV or the 7D for the night shots?
Good Stuff, Luv it..
Uge said |
Hey Aaron, I used the Canon EOS Mark 4 to shoot the night shots at ISO 12800.
They are SUPER noisy with a mega ISO like that. Hard to avoid that with basically no light.
Was hard to get a focussed shot – it was hunting around like nuttin’ else.
Aaron said |
Yeh,
They look like stills from a video files, but that is the beauty of the Mark4 to be able to push such high ISO
Still…. Good shots though.
