Laura Enever + Sally Fitzgibbons, future of women's surfing

La Femme

Today we have some special guests down at Bondi – the future of women’s surfing – the stars of the ROXY surf team, Sally Fitzgibbons (Gerroa) and Laura Enever (Narrabeen). Between these two young girls they’re cleaning up the female competitive surfing arena. 18 year old Sally, ranked 6 in the world, is lighting fast – even in the micro Bondi conditions this morning (saw her do 4 reos on a 1 foot wave). 17 year old, Laura, from the famous training grounds of Narrabeen has taken out the ISA Junior World Championships and the 2008 Triple Crown Rookie of the Year.

Surf conditions – well, its dropped off and a weak mini NE swell has arrived. Bondi was 1-2 foot, surfable but only if you’re the weight of these girls (sub 50 kaygees). I’d expect the surf to improve over the weekend as the swell period increases from 6 – 8.7. Have fun.

The Aquabumps Gallery in Bondi will be open all weekend, as it always is, 10am to 6pm (151 Curlewis Street Bondi). The Airborne exhibition is still up, a series of images shots from helicopters last summer.

PS – it wasn’t Taj down at Bondi yesterday. One of my informants had his wires crossed.
