As we draw closer to summer I’ve noticed a few things around the ‘hood:
• More people are up for the early. It’s not just me and a handful of surfers. Bootie camps are packed getting the rig ready for bright light.
• People get boozed and pass out on the beach…always entertaining where they end up.
• Parking is an endangered species.
• The waves tend to get a lot smaller and that north wind blows
• My lens points to more of the quirks around here as the waves take a back seat.
The waves today are terrible. Worst in weeks. It is going to be warm, 29 degrees though and rain tonight.
Have a great long weekend, please note the Aquabumps Gallery will be shut on Monday public holiday.
Like many recent days we once again have sun, waves and now warmer temps. I am wearing shorts today and the my twigs are gonna see 24 degrees hopefully.
There’s even a little wave on, the waist to chest high variety. Our newly renovated banks favour the right hander now. Good for the naturals.
Northerly winds will blow all day, 25 knots later. That’s typical of a warmer day.
This little swell should hang around for tomorrow.

Yo. I have to say we’ve had a decent run of small swells the past 3 weeks. Today I found shoulder to head high wind swells breaking at Bondi. It actually looked like fun…Not a patch on our famous left of last week, which has now been downgraded as the sand moved to the rocks. Feels like it is going to get warmer as this week progresses. Good huh.
Not much else to report. I bet most of you don’t get to my second paragraph anyway…
Bye :: uge
How about that huge pod of dolphins in the bay this morning. Really quite something. Sets stood tall out the back and Dolphins torpedoed to the beach. The pod hung around all morning freaking out the odd surfer.
The waves have come up but it looks like a flimsy wind swell. Nothing special. I’d stick to what you’re doing.
North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club are rebuilding, we all know that. Building ain’t cheap and they’re still raising funds. A rare opportunity has opened up to join the club through an Associate Membership. They’ve released 50 memberships only. If you’re interested, go here

I’m a gadget geek. Hard core. Must be the part Asian blood running through my veins. Something new – gotta have it. I’ve also been a die-hard iPhone user since inception…well, that was until one of my readers, Joe, swung past the gallery and dropped off a new phone for me to try. He said “…just try it – takes good fotos”. It came in a pretty little box that sat on my desk for a day or so. Then I started messing about with it and realised the image quality was pretty special for something that small. So most of the shots in today’s daily email were shot using my mobile phone (HTC One XL 4G) – true. I actually find taking the photos on a phone a lot less invasive – people tend to relax a lot more in front a smaller device. Just need to get a long lens and water housing for my phone and I can do my updates direct from the sand!
Summary :: Small waves today, waist to sometimes chest high. Super warm 23 and sunny. So good. Colder tomorrow and 28 on Thursday! Dang.
Looks like our left is starting to morph into a right. The northerlies have blown all the sand up closer to Icebergs making it close out – especially with this morning’s low tide.
Swells got a bit of East to it now. That’s not good for Bondi. Shoulder high waves today. Bigger tomorrow – a tad. The rip is mental – hard swim to get these photos.
Kelly Slater just beat Joel Parkinson in the final at Lowers taking out tour stop No.6. Machine.
Good bye for now, enjoy the weekend :: uge
For a change of scenery I dragged myself away from The Bondi Left and headed down to Maroubra to take a few frames of local shredder Blake Thornton.
Some nice little waves down there…a little infrequent…shoulder high with head high sets. Huge crowd up early at all beaches. At the moment you can surf 2 hours before work. Good huh.
Senor Blake’s just got back from Mexico – ava look at this little film of the trip. Surf looks amazing, never been and just put it on the list for 2013.
Hasta Luego :: Ugio
#thebondileft has been doing its thing once again this morning. Bit more #East in the #swell and looks like we may have a #righthander on our hands. #true. #iamovergoingleft so a little right shorey will be welcomed.
The #winds are coming from the SW…the #nemisisonshore will arrive later today putting some #chop in them faces.
Some days we have pictures of cars, retro architecture, sunrises and pretty girls. Today we have 9, yes you heard right, 9 images of just surfing. Why? ‘Cause it is good out there.
Why 9? I think you are ready for 9. Internet speeds are improving so I can feed you more than the usual 7.
If you experience a rapid decline in download speeds of this email, then lettuce know…but we think we’re worth the wait.
It won’t always be 9. Just on the days that I have enough good stuff.
Sunny and head high now. 18 degrees in the water. NW winds. South swell. Max 21 degrees on land. Maybe a thunderstorm later.
Ciao :: u g i o
It was little different down the beach this morning. The wind was blowing onshore, grey tones dominated the skies and it was all quiet. Mondays rock.
‘The Left’ was working, not many out which was a refreshing change. Boy-oh-boy it’s been busy out there…nearly as busy as the new Zara store with crazy ladies running around swinging coloured jeans above their heads. Retail on steroids. If you see my wifie in store, please send her home.
Looks like a bit of rain later today and tomorrow. Should be something to ride all week.
We’re just about to hit 60,000 on Facebook, the size of a small city. How cool is that.

If I could make a template of a day and duplicate it many times, it would be today.
The sun is out and spring is in the air. The waves are good, some above your head and even tubing on the odd occasion.
Bit smaller tomorrow, but fun.
We’re in for a busy weekend :: uge
PS – have you seen our surfing short film we made with Peroni in Italy?
How are you? Are you ok?
Today is national RUOK? Day.
RUOK? Foundation aims to prevent isolation by empowering people to support each other through life’s ups and downs.
I’m pretty good at the moment…been surfing most days with all this swell – thanks for asking.
It was an early chopper flight over Bondi this morning to shoot the 1st picture. 550 crew formed the letters on the beach. Thanks for being so patient as we did a few passes.
It’s no surprise that ‘the left’ is still working, even if the swell has halved, or even quartered. The beach was rammed before I ever got down there. Amazing sunrise.
Have a good day :: uge
95% of the year Bondi is closing out.
I guess we’re in the 5%.
I’ll let the pictures do all the talking and save my dribble for another day.
If you enjoy surfing and like the waves of today, book a trip on Tengirri to the Mentawai Islands. Now is the time to get sorted for next year. I already have my 2013 trip. Tengirri also have a fancy new website…the owner said I’ll get the best cabin on the boat if I mention that.
Adios :: ugios
Some really good surfing went down at Bondi this morning on our left. I think it’s hard to ride with unpredictable sections and back wash…but fun.
The swell period leaps to 16 seconds today. That should bring some power and size (hopefully). Also the winds should calm down and swing more to the SW. That sounds good. Clean it up a little.
This Thursday I am shooting at Bondi from the bird for RU OK? Day between 6:00am – 8:30am. We’re looking for crew to create a giant spelling of ‘RU OK?’ on the beach as I hover above, 300 feet up. More
Looks like the Wave Maker 3000 has been working overtime, the swell is here and thundering into Bondi. I saw waves well over head high but there is plenty of wobble making it hard to ride. The swell size is a little large for the left…the right looks to handle it better. Hit it.
Sad news…a 40 year old man was celebrating his birthday on Saturday night and tragically fell off the cliffs near Dover Heights. Police haven’t identified his body yet which was found by a recreational fisherman off North Bondi. SMH
All week looks good for surfing! The amazing spring weather continues – 25 degrees today.
This week marks the start of spring…and hasn’t it lived up to our expectations. Today is yet another perfectly sunny, salubrious spring day. The promenade at Bondi was packed by 6:30am with joggers, dawdlers, yogies, swimmers and 4 surfers. In true spring fashion, the waves were tiny. Gone are the monster winter swells and here come the northerlies which will blow again today. Bondi had a waist high, infrequent wave on the golden left bank…swell coming on the weekend though, stand by.
In celebration of the change in weather, we’ve joined forces with our Italian buddies at Peroni (yes, Italy’s premium beer) to produce Aquabumps Spring/Summer Moments…in association with Peroni. Our first instalment in a series of short films will prove the theory that there IS actually waves that break in Italy…true. If you don’t believe me, watch this short movie that we filmed several weeks ago in the Italian Riviera. You won’t believe your eyes…special thanks to Peroni, Rob Norman, Justin Barnwell, Alessandro Dotti and Matt Brown for working on their tans (and making this film for us).
Arrivederci a presto:: Ugio
All that wind has kicked up a little chop breaking around your waistline. You can sit at your desk now and have no fear of missing out (FOMO).
I’m loving the warm weather. 27 yesterday, 26 today. That puts everyone in a good mood.
Big swell still coming Sunday. Enjoy punks :: uge
Interesting day today. We’ve got a forecasted maximum of 27 degrees. How good. Don’t let that fool you though, the water is super chilly so you’re still need rubber.
The wind will blow a gale later, 30 knots. That’s sulo bin chasing strength. Bring the washing in.
The swell has evaporated and only suitable for loggers on ‘The Left’ at Bondeye. Some sets will break around your chest. But there’s a long wait and hungry crowd.
The great news is that a swell is arriving on Sunday – quite a big one. Double head high from the South with SW winds. I pray that this pounding swell doesn’t change our beloved sand bank.
Our Aquabumps Speedo range of ladies swimwear and boardies are in store now. Check out this 1 piece shot on Australia Day

There’s waves. Swear. Just gotta wait about 45 minutes for a set. The swell is dying and the morning high tide is flooding the banks. But the patient, early riser has scored a few fun ones this morning.
The sunrise was good too! Good to see a bit of colour splashed around the place.
My good mate Sammy reckons I’ve porked up over winter. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones I say. Ok so those 18”x2’n’quarter boards aren’t floating like they used to. I blame the recent 2 week swell drought. Well, if you wanna get fit for this summer like I need to, get all your gear from the RUNSTOPSHOP as they’re offering our readers a generous 15% discount today upon checkout by using code “BUMPS15”. Stock up.
Outta here, gotta crunch out some laps :: uge
It’s all about the left at Bondi…and don’t you all know it.
After a 2 week wave drought, Bondi has had some fun waves on a south bank. It’s fickle on the tide…but real fun. The waves dragged out everyone, some faces I haven’t seen in ages. Hell, even I caught some.
Today the swell has dropped a lot. The 9:50am high tide will kill it. But at 6am there was some real good ones. This week the weather looks amazing but I don’t think there will be swell. Super windy Wednesday and Thursday…getting warmer too (26).
Bronte surfer, Gavin ‘Bagus’ Stevenson has a little local business where he motors out to the fresh fruit’n’veg markets every morning and delivers it to your door. I’ve been getting the goods for a few years now and can’t live without it (You know how I love fruit). If you want a box, call 0420 906 061 and you’ll get 50% off your first delivery. Keep him busy so he doesn’t spend so much time in the surf (he is a wave magnet).
We’re open for business 7 days (yep, today!) Aquabumps Gallery 151 Curlewis Street Bondi Beach NSW 2026
