Phone Photos

I’m a gadget geek. Hard core. Must be the part Asian blood running through my veins. Something new – gotta have it. I’ve also been a die-hard iPhone user since inception…well, that was until one of my readers, Joe, swung past the gallery and dropped off a new phone for me to try. He said “…just try it – takes good fotos”. It came in a pretty little box that sat on my desk for a day or so. Then I started messing about with it and realised the image quality was pretty special for something that small. So most of the shots in today’s daily email were shot using my mobile phone (HTC One XL 4G) – true. I actually find taking the photos on a phone a lot less invasive – people tend to relax a lot more in front a smaller device. Just need to get a long lens and water housing for my phone and I can do my updates direct from the sand!

Summary :: Small waves today, waist to sometimes chest high. Super warm 23 and sunny. So good. Colder tomorrow and 28 on Thursday! Dang.

  1. Another advert, are you using this site for photos or just a promotion for another corporate company. I like your photo’s but the corporate prostition is depressing. Sorry just an opinion.

    1. I agree with D.

It is no problem to accept that Aquabumps is sponsored by HTC and their spono dollars help bring us this site each day…and showing a few photos taken by the phone to see what it’s like is no issue.

However, positioning it that a reader just happened to drop it off to try it out treats the readers like mugs.

Add in the subtle iphone criticism, and the fact that the post says “most photos” are taken by the phone, but they are not identified from the snaps taken by another device, all add up to a disappointing post.

Keep up the great work that you usually do.

        Well said.

  2. Here we go, now I feel like driving a Land Rover while drinking my Peroni and talking to my mates on my HTC…
Can I blame Aquabumps when I get arrested? I bet I can plead intensive brainwashing!!

    1. funnily put.. but seriously, if none of that advertising work,, you really think corporations will put their bucks into this type of marketing?

  3. Thanks everyone for your comments. Love em.

I read em all and try to get back to everyone.

Today I thought it was a good (personal challenge) to try and shoot all my daily photos on a mobile phone. Always wanted to do it. Everyone is camera gear obsessed (esp DSLR)…so I guess shooting it on the most simplest imaging device I own, my mobile, would be fun. No one paid me to shoot it – or forced me to do it.

5 out of 7 shots today were shot on my mobile phone. 2 had to come from a big camera as I can’t zoom in on surfing from my mobile. Hence the ‘most’ photos shot on my phone today comment.

I would like to clarify a few things…

    – Joe (from HTC) did actually drop of phone off to the gallery. He has been reading aquabumps for years.
    – I was a mad iphone person before Joe dropped a phone off
    – I genuinely love the HTC as the image quality is amazing. Have a coffee with me sometimes, I will take you thru all the features!
    – If I don’t put what phone I was using on my daily update, I would be answering emails all day “which phone were these photos taken on”
    – No one paid me to write anything – today’s commentary is exactly what happened. Nope, no cash for comment or whatever that is.

So be cool all and enjoy my (free) website. It’s an amazing day outside…beach is packed and there’s a great vibe around…

    enjoy:: uge

PS – I do shoot with Canons, and love them – have done since I was 10. I only drink 2 things, water and Peroni’s. All my devices are connected by Telstra – better reception…and I’ve used a HTC phone for 6 months. Just in case you wanted to know. Oh, and I’ve driven a Land Rover for most of my adult life.

    1. yeah d, what’s the issue here? There’s hardly any adverts on here anyway (compared to other sites), seriously there must be more things you can worry about than a bit of info on a phone on here, of which it’s not like it happens every day, some different corporate plug. Far out, enjoy the pics, enjoy life, stop being so grumpy !

  4. I am happy for advices from Uge. I can´t affort Land Rover (I don´t like it, I like only German cars and have only BMW).
But after I throw away my old Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot (bought 5 yrs ago and at that time taking the best photos) I will definitely buy HTC One XL 4G. I don´t like iPhone as Uge doesn´t.

  5. You are such a good sport Uge! Love the pictures and I think it’s exciting that you get sponsers and can make a living from such a fantastic job…. I think you should take on an intern… from Florida… named Cornelia…

  6. Guys just enjoy the awesome photos that are posted everyday and don’t lose it every time you see an advertisement. All of these brands are probably jumping out of their skins to be associated with such a great website. Just enjoy the pics you get everyday and chill out a bit.
