Shifty

Well it wasn’t the best conditions I’ve seen out there. Maybe ‘cause we’ve been spoilt. The left had a wave, yes, that left. It was weak and floppy – say 2 foot. Pretty junkie. The right wasn’t really working in my eyes. Plenty of hopefuls out early. The swell should get bigger today as a cold front hits. Rain expected too!

Shift60

Many of you already know Chappy. He’s a ball of energy and just opened a gym at 164 Bondi Road called Shift60. There is plenty of trainers around here but Chappy is probably one of the most qualified in this country. Hell the mad frother has even convinced me to come up to the gym to lose some winter excess baggage. Ask him about surf specific training. He’s offering Aquabumps readers $50 for 10 days group personal training sessions. Call em 8068 2995 or visit their website

Reckon we could fit a few more on this wave?

  1. So Uge, I believe it’s your it your camera, you awesome ability to take flicks and your own motivation that gets you out of bed pre-sunrise every morning, and for that i commend you and it gives you the right to take flicks of anything you want. However the more me and my mates surf and then check out your flicks at work, hoping against hope to finally make the grade we realise that you are starting to only take flicks of your mates and guys you know out there. It is the dream of every surfer who grew up surfing fairer shores and who gets dragged to Sydney to work and surf dribble to one day end up begin on aquabumps. Getting a flick on Aquabumps validates the decision to leave our secret spots, surf-towns and quiet carparks to surf 1 foot south bondi with a bunch of kooks and pretend legends. Please don’t ruin the dream Uge!! I know a part of you still wants to take a photo of us…and not just your mates

  2. Thanks for the feedback.

I do not only take pics of my mates. I publish the ‘best’ shots.

Best shots taken of the morning are defined as “good angle, good light, doesn’t have to be good surfing – but nice if something is doing something rare like an air, or hell, just a turn. Going straight doesn’t really excite me that much.

Take today for example, “Bondi 7:00am | Morning crew” no idea who those guys are…”Bondi 7:10 | Reckon we could fit a few more on this wave?” could be anyone…”Bondi 7:30am | Joggers in the strange morning light” no idea who they are but nice light and composiiton “Bondi 7:40am | Glide – Jeff on the left” oh yeah, I know jeff, but don’t know the other day” I know Andrzej, he does good turns, so he made the cut.

So come down, do something good on a wave and you’re on! :: uge

  3. Uge,
Thank you for not taking my heckle too personally! I will do my best to control the elements (light, tide, wave height, water smoothness, viscosity of the water, depth of break, power of the wave, colour of the foam) but only if you can guarantee me that if I get them all ‘perfect’ you will take a photo of me going straight, with a poo-man stance, with my red hair flowing, while running into a few innocent swimmers. Deal?

Love ya work Uge, will come say g’day tomorrow morning.

  4. ..personally, I think the time is well overdue for someone to hold the camera for Eugene…..and have a Eugene on Aquabumps day. In the surf of course!!

    1. Thanks Geoff…just got a new board too! you any good at taking photos! na, just kiddin’ – no need to see me surfing.

  5. We all know it is hard to take a good surf photo & you are working with the best you have in front of you, Uge, great job mate. Keep up the good work.

I have seen a few pics of myself up here on occassions & they were good shots, thanks Uge. I don’t know you at all!

Jhonas, hopefully in the coming years your internet fame becomes a reality…I’d say enjoy the secret spots, surf towns & quiet carparks if you can, because after surfing for 25 of my 30 years, I tells you – surfing is for you & no one else.

  6. Jhonas was talking himself down before. He, more than most of you chumps, can throw some serious rooster tail when he want to. Punts are not out of the question either, lefts and rights both feel the wrath of his spaceman like assault on gravity. His quiver is not limited by size or shape either, carving up everything from short-long boards, step-decks, quads, swallow tails, he has even surfed a goat boat but doesn’t like to talk about it. You will often find him hooting others, but more commonly himself. He froffs on life, he froffs on waves, he froffs on hot chicks and they froff on him. Jhonas is not only an enigma, he is Bondi Beach, he just wants the recognition he deserves and more importantly Uge’s friendship. After all even with his cockyness (and ability to speak in 3rd person) he is a friends and lover foremost!!

Jhonas will be out ripping at South Bondi tomorrow morning so do yourself a favour, say g’day to the red haired guy next to you because he could be your new friend!!

    Hasta Luego Hombres,
    Jhonas

  9. In honour of Jhonas and his large heuvos I have died my pubic hair red.

    Bondi needs real cybermen.

    Viva Jhonas Viva !!!!

  10. Hey Jordan,
We all love Uge and his work but no one like a kiss-ass. Give it a rest bro. Pepper is meant to be ground on your dinner plate mate, not on your knees.
